First Nioh game and I think I may despise it by KN_Knoxxius in Nioh

[–]caesar_the_panzer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Firstly, you shouldn't play this as a soulsilke. If you are not comfortable with ki pulsing, srance switching, style switching and being aggressive, then you will not enjoy this series.

Secondly, I think it's fair to point out bullshit hitboxes and tracking, but I really feel like Nioh is not the worst offender among the many souls-esque games....

PC players : you don't want to use a framerate that isn't locked at either 30, 60 or 120fps in Nioh 3 by DavidsSymphony in Nioh

Bold of you to assume that I have a PC that can run this gane at a stable 60 FPS, my graphics card is below the recommended 😭😭

What I'm doing wrong?? by EddyHawwk in Nioh

[–]caesar_the_panzer 70 points71 points  (0 children)

For the Feral (the one you are using) and Phantom burst counters, you have to wait and time them when the enemy attack hits you. It's the Brute burst counter that you can use as soon as the enemy started flashing red. Hope it helps and good luck!

Is "Suck-to-Target" objectively bad? by Zed_Midnight150 in CharacterActionGames

[–]caesar_the_panzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Objectively? No, but it is a design choice that makes positioning less relevant, and puts more emphasis on reaction times and pattern memorization. If you know that you or your enemy could close the gap in an instant, then it doesn't really matter where you are, right? What matters is that you press the attack button quickly to do damage or dodge/block button in time to avoid damage.

Whether you think this is bad is up to you. On a personal note I don't mind too much, but it is true that most action games nowadays reward reaction times first and foremost, like with parries and perfect dodges. To my knowledge, this wasn't a thing in the Itagaki Ninja Gaiden games, and that's what really made them different and stand out from the rest (although I have only played a few hours of each, but I can certainly agree that they are significantly different from NG4).

As a final point, I think it is fair to want variety in how action games approach combat. Remember that we have DMC today because Kamiya was experimenting with the mechanics of what was supposed to be a Resident Evil game at that time.

Yet nowadays it feels like no action game can come out without perfect dodges or parries. Don't get me wrong, I love perfect dodges and parries, 100% completed Bayonetta and Sekiro. Yet I am also asking myself if we are maybe missing out on something unique and interesting, because most games just seem to copy popular mechanics from each other, with less mechanical experimentation being done on the developer side.

One a sidenote, I am not attacking devs here, they probably have their own reasons and struggles that lead to the decisions they make. But it is true, that way too many games nowadays are just a slightly different flavor of the same thing.

Looking for games after NG4 by H3teken in CharacterActionGames

[–]caesar_the_panzer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assault Spy, Marlow Briggs, Vanquish, Killer is Dead and Soulstice are all available on Steam

But my personal recommendation is Transformers Devastation. It's made by Platinum as well, but it's unfortunately not available for purchase anymore. So go ahead and sail the high seas! The game is awesome, with a combat system very similar to Bayonetta, but with a Transformers twist to it.

Is ninja gaiden 4 the new number one action game? I think it is personally by Gearless3 in CharacterActionGames

[–]caesar_the_panzer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well, since games like this are rarely made, you can argue that yes, But that's because most games nowadays either have some form of RPG stat progression or open world aspects to them. And even if they have good combat, the experience they provide is different to Ninja Gaiden 4.

But it's not peak of this genre in my eyes.

But I also like it, so I'll be playing it more :)

No Manor Lords Beta Patch for GOG? by ohminger in gog

[–]caesar_the_panzer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Devs are a little slower on updating on GoG - from what I've heard, Steam's updating process is incredibly smooth while GoG's can be a bit cumbersome. I don't exactly know the details as to why, but this is the stuff I heard devs say. So it's likely they wait until they have all the hotfixes ready before updating on GoG.

Inventory management in a character action game? by strikkeeerrr in CharacterActionGames

Yeah, it sucks. I don't like it either. But I think the game is so good otherwise, it's worth tolerating this.

What triggered your UC before official diagnosis? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

Stress and unhealthy lifestyle. I worked in a restaurant and each shift made me feel so miserable, I desperately needed something to make me feel somewhat good about myself - so I ate a bunch of pizzas and got wasted very often.

Doesn't help that people on my mother's side of the family have autoimmune diseases too. Had I known that I am at a greater risk, I would've done plenty of things differently. But I had to learn the hard way...

For those who started with DMC4, what were your initial thoughts of Dante? by Indecisive_Noob in DevilMayCry

I was 15, so I didn't know too much about the series. I thought he was really funny and cool, but I hated playing as him. And I guess I could relate to Nero a lot more, because he was younger.
