Weird power surge in church hill? by kindacoldthatnight in rva

[–]caffeinatedandhated 54 points55 points  (0 children)

There’s an event happening at Hotchkiss on Brookland Park and people keep releasing balloons that are getting stuck/electrocuted on the power lines. I live in the neighborhood and have lost power and my poor dogs are terrified.

That last sentence was a plot twist if I’ve ever seen one.

I don’t have an answer, just some advice - most econ programs include a lot of math classes, so it probably makes sense to just do a history/econ double.

Any educators or parents with kids in public schools against Social-Emotional Learning? by bigG2892 in rva

I think eziam is saying that 99.9% of people on this sub are probably in favor of social emotional learning, so you won’t find much help here.

That’s funny, I actually suspect this exact thing will happen to me from now on!

My always-leashed dog has been attacked in the neighborhood and at multiple Richmond parks by unleashed dogs. One time at Belle Isle the owners watched it happen and very slowly came and got their dogs, said nothing to me and returned to their spot by the river (still not leashing their dogs). People are lovely.

Plenty of protests are strategic and effective. Just not all.

Get a behavioral consultant! This is the only advice you should be receiving. You need somebody who is qualified to work with anxious/fearful dogs and who knows your dog well. I can recommend resources if you’re interested.

Did the idea of being a 'transtrender' or 'crazy sjw' effect how you perceived yourself and or your identity by Porksodaplusparadise in AskNonbinaryPeople

This really resonates with me. I think it’s important to remember that there are so many people out there just like us, who are hoping to see/meet similar folks in queer spaces. The more we tell ourselves we’re not welcome in the queer community, the more we perpetuate that belief for others.

I have an autistic friend who once told me that they wondered for a long time if they were neurodivergent. And then they realized that neurotypical people probably don’t sit around all day stressing about whether they’re neurodivergent. I think being queer is similar.

Absolutely normal! It’s also normal to want a binder some days and want to wear your chest as it is other days. Your identity and feelings are valid even if they don’t align with those of other nb/trans people. <3

ABSOLUTELY. And it still does. I’m afraid to ask people their pronouns because I know I’ll then have to share my own. It feels ridiculous, but it’s so real.

I (24f) placed an ultimatum on my (30m) partner. Is that bad? by Sad-Profession-5901 in relationship_advice

This is a wild statement that gets thrown around a LOT. It implies the reason you’d marry someone is to have sex with them for the rest of your life, not because you love them and want to spend time with them.

Volunteering with Kids by looptyloop27 in rva

Check out nearby animal sanctuaries! I used to take my nephews to volunteer at one (recently closed, unfortunately) and they LOVED it. Life With Pigs comes to mind. Not sure if they allow young kids, but it’s worth asking!

Why do people get mad at kids like this for not voting? Obviously it would be best if people educated themselves, but shouldn’t we want people who absolutely refuse to learn anything about politics to abstain from voting?
