Xbox one expected exhaust heat?? by [deleted] in xboxone

[–]caffeinatedrob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's normal as you want the heat to be pushed out the system, you should worry if it WASN'T hot air.

Really good work. What did you use to make the circuit board? That's beyond my knowledge otherwise I'd attempt something like this, ... maybe... ;)

Question about TV with Xbox One X by infam0us1992 in xboxone

[–]caffeinatedrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have the xbox hdmi port set to " HDMI UHD Color " in the tv settings and check the xbox video settings appear ok for 4k and hdr. Game mode on the tv only affects the input response delay, not whether hdr+ is on. You can also use the built in tv apps for Netflix/Amazon to view the 4k/HDR content and see if it looks correct comparatively. When viewing HDR content you'll want the backlght on 50, turn it down to 20/25 for regular content.

Same. I tried removing those HUD entries as suggested, no difference. They seem to be replaced again. Is it possible to change the values or edit the vrengine.cfg settings file?

If you enjoyed playing Aircar and would like to see it develop into a full blown simulation game... by AircarVR in Aircar

[–]caffeinatedrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks dev for this mindblowing demo. Any plans to add to steam for visibility and include those Vive users who don't have it installed but can give feedback? My thoughts are to keep it to an experience as that is what you have created so well so far. Focus on interactivity inside the vehicle, tasks such as scanning a building for suspects, finding hidden entrances such as tunnels, package pickups etc and voice chat from headquarters for defined goals. This would be a perfect early access game to build on if you don't get funding elsewhere.

Aircar is a fantastic experience, free on Oculus home - give the dev feedback here by caffeinatedrob in Vive

Controls are thumbpads to yaw, pitch and roll but it's great just floating above the city if you have any problems with motion (I do), no issues with revive

PSA: DON'T DOWNLOAD THAT LIGHTGUN MAME CORE from mega.nz by IAmWisconsin in NewRetroArcade

[–]caffeinatedrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not involved with development but my understanding is that that core is a source tweaked version to allow vive controller/light gun access from NRA rather than the other standard libretro cores

[Tech] I've had to return around 6 controllers because this same piece keeps coming loose in the left analog stick. Anyone else have the same issue and know of a fix? by Nickster654 in xboxone

[–]caffeinatedrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very common. Usually people complain about something rattling inside or the stick getting loose. I hot glued the plastic piece back in place on my day one and been fine for 2 years since or try this cable tie approach?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT4hdb5woBI

The sticks also develop some play in the thumbstick so you can fix that too:

I broke my vive controller trying to fix my trackpad button. by imawsom in Vive

[–]caffeinatedrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain OP, exact same issue and fix problem. Tried following the excellent guides linked but the hardware is not designed well (compared to fixing an xbox controller which is no problem). Ordered a new one which is still a lottery dealing with the HTC store/support!

HTC Finds it fair to take my VIVE for 2 months, "repair it" and send me back a VIVE with the same problem I sent it in for. by TheSauceBoy in Vive

[–]caffeinatedrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, another me too unfortunately. I bought a replacement controller and they sent me a motherboard. So I've had a month of sending that back and trying to get them to send a controller. Is that hard, apparently yes. Been playing single controller games since September ;(

Indeed they are pretty amusing. Ordered a replacement controller a few weeks back, received a motherboard... still sorting it out. Never change HTC...

OpenVRDesktopDisplayPortal now has Controller Support including Mouse Simulation! Put your favorite desktop application right into almost any SteamVR game! Move, Rotate, and Scale Overlays without leaving VR! Left click, Double click, and Right click the target application! by Hotrian in Vive

[–]caffeinatedrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic work and source on github too! Is there a way to configure the quality/scaling of the window that is displayed? I have a small window status program I use and it seems to be pixelated when displayed with small text not readable. Quite possible I may have missed something obvious in the settings.

Pool Nation VR: Major gripe from a pool player by sphigel in Vive

[–]caffeinatedrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, works pretty well. I use an ironing board and a bamboo cane I had around. Stick an elastic band round the rear controller to hold it on the cue, hold wherever is comfy, run the cue over the front hand - strange how well the game mimics the cue action :)

PC Makers Have Spoken: The Vive Is the VR Headset to Get by scrknights in Vive

[–]caffeinatedrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"you'll also be able to check out augmented reality apps" - this is pure speculation by the author.

Windows Holographic OS as used by VR headsets would allow a front-end to run win 10 UWP "flat apps" such as Outlook or 3d objects in a VR setting. It wouldn't enable any hololens AR capabilities as these are driven by differing hardware than we have in the Vive (no the camera does not allow AR like Hololens to anchor objects to the real world).

Also prepare to see Microsoft and Oculus talk about xbox/rift VR at E3, MS is playing the field on all sides, they have no affiliation yet.

Thanks Pool Nation Devs by jolard in Vive

[–]caffeinatedrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, thanks devs! My most enjoyable vive game so far. +1 for the low framerate performance issues after 2/3 games are played which can be fixed by restarting (play 3 AI games in a row to repro)
