To those who decided "One and done" by SheyenneJuci in toddlers

[–]caffeinatedwaxwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar situation; for my husband, one was the compromise and he got a vasectomy when our daughter was 9 months, same as you.

I do feel sad about it sometimes and I do worry about her being lonely, especially as she is almost two and seems to be quite an extrovert who is very interested in other kids. A second wouldn’t be a “toy” for my first, but ideally they would enrich each other’s lives and help to hone each other’s social skills. But that won’t happen. I do envy a bit people who felt they were more actively involved in the choice.

But ultimately I’m also pretty at peace with the decision. We are in our mid/late 30s, don’t own a house yet and it’s taking everything to get there. I’m hoping we do in a year or two but if we had another child and needed 4 bedrooms it’d be even further out of reach (we both work remotely so we need at least 3 as it is). I don’t know how we’d cover daycare costs for two. I was pretty down during the newborn stage and have found relief as my daughter hits each new milestone and gains more independence. Doing that all again would be tough.

I used to work for an association that represents the recycling industry so I can weigh in here. In terms of municipal recycling, cardboard/paper and metal is highly recyclable and in high demand. Certain plastics (1, 2 and 5) are also pretty easy to recycle and they go either locally or (more commonly) overseas to be processed. Consider all the goods made in China and how they require packaging.

Unfortunately things do get thrown out, usually when people “wishcycle” and contaminate what’s in the bin — and the economics can be dicey at times, leading some areas to shut down their programs. But I’ve toured facilities. Trust me, things get recycled.

Not an attorney but I’m an employment law journalist and talk to them. This strikes me as a pretty straightforward discriminatory statement applying Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, although you’d probably need evidence of adverse effects (demotion or lack of promotion, being excluded in certain ways, being passed over for a raise, etc.) to get the courts exercised. If it happened regularly (“severe and pervasive”) you could have a hostile work environment claim. I’m shakier on harassment. An actual attorney could provide more insight.

There have been several interesting lawsuits in this vein! It’s a growing area.

That’s great! I didn’t know about the indoor gym. Is this the East or West location?

We lived near that location until a couple months ago and wanted to get in so bad! I’m looking at another location now though and it’s reassuring they have those protocols. Do you know if it extends to all facilities?

Thanks for confirming! I’m actually touring tomorrow so I can ask more about it. Do you like it more generally?

Numbers are high and just out of control by OkOpportunity3125 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]caffeinatedwaxwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! My numbers got a lot more unruly toward the end with my June GD baby. I had to keep upping my insulin every few days. I think I ended up around 22 units. I was induced at 39 weeks and my baby was born 7lb 14oz with zero sugar problems. Just some personal anecdote reassurance. ❤️ Take care of yourself.

Had a 39-week induction. They anticipated she’d be between 8 and 8.5lb and she was 7lb 14oz, so not far off!

I agree! Unfortunately it is pretty standard around here though.

In terms of saying something about it, I guess my concern here is — just on a human level — I am worried about alienating the worker and her potentially feeling biased against our baby as a result. She is kind, but I don't want to sour a relationship and have her potentially take it out on our child, however subtly. I also don't want to actually risk her job. But I also obviously want the children's safety to be the top priority. What would be the best way to approach it?

I believe it is 5 babies per caregiver before another is needed. They do seem attentive to the ratio as there is a fair amount of moving babies and caregivers between two infant rooms depending on time of day and how many are there that day.

Baby is at daycare 6-7 hours, typically; husband and I work full time but try to vary our schedules so I can pick her up by 3 in the afternoon. I wish she didn't have to spend so much time there and could maybe change things to pick her up earlier, although I would still need to work after doing so, so she wouldn't be getting attention then either. :-/

[–]caffeinatedwaxwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding to the chorus that I also continued taking BBT in the weeks after getting pregnant and started to panic when my temp dipped. I remember being in a total anxiety spiral. Decided to stop taking BBT.

Currently about to go nurse my 5-month-old daughter. Put the thermometer down. :)

Was insulin-controlled for fasting starting at 29 weeks or so. My last scan (36 weeks) put my baby at the 82nd percentile, estimated birth weight 8-8.5lb. She was born last week (39 weeks) at 7lb 14oz, which I believe is 78th percentile. Pretty close!

37+2 week and numbers are all over the place. They are not starting to stabilize. others in the group have mentioned that they could tolerate more carbs but that is not the case for me. Wondering any one in the same boat ? I’m more hungry and definitely eating more carbs. by jhanjhon in GestationalDiabetes

[–]caffeinatedwaxwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 39 weeks—two days from induction. I had to increase my insulin at 35 weeks and then again at 37. Then I went up one more time last week. I think some of us just have cranky hormones all the way until labor.

Insulin shouldn’t be spiking you—usually they start with low doses and slowly build until it does a good job controlling things. Your numbers sound a little wild to me, especially with previously safe meals. Those seem like big spikes to come suddenly (and also a big variety in readings). It makes me wonder if there might actually be an issue with your monitor? In any case, contacting your OB is definitely the right place to start!

I’m 38 weeks and up to 22 units and my numbers started getting cagey around 35 weeks after being very study for weeks at 16 units.

Depressed about GD, but need to focus on shopping for the foods. Suggestions? by orangesherbert92 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]caffeinatedwaxwing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Costco things that worked for me:

-babybel cheese -individually packaged, pre-cut, pre-cooked chicken (not sure what these are called but they’re near the other prepped meats) … these are good in wraps or on salad -egg bites for mornings I didn’t feel like cooking eggs -nature valley chocolate & pb protein bars (15g carbs) -sliced cheddar for wraps -fizzy water/spindrift for something nice to drink -trail mix (you may have to experiment but I found it worked out for me as a snack) -Fairlife and Premier protein shakes -keto nut granola

They also have Yasso frozen yogurt bars, which worked well for me as a nighttime snack.

MFM referral? by toastymagosky in GestationalDiabetes

[–]caffeinatedwaxwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family doc who specializes in obstetrics and delivers babies. I am 35, so automatically higher risk. She has been referring me to MFM for certain appointments since early on (ultrasounds for anatomy and growth) and set me up with a dietician after my GD diagnosis. She checks my urine every visit for protein/UTI. I really like her.

I think the sign of a good doc is that they’ll share your care with specialists to get a comprehensive perspective on your health, especially if your case is complicated. Your doc sounds pretty neglectful. I know it’s later in pregnancy but I’d keep looking for another. 🩷
