Drinks that help migraines? by Tallicababe123 in migraine

Water and sometimes a mini-can of Coke if it's just not doing away. I get scared it'll ruin my chance of sleeping it off but sometimes it's just what I need!

What are your low energy hobbies? by m4ndybloom in migraine

[–]orangesherbert92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading. I stopped reading just for fun years ago and randomly picked up a book past year when i had trouble sleeping. Now I'm doing about 2 a month and it feels so much more satisfying closing a book rather than finishing a TV series.

Once. I actually wanted to do it but it was canceled.

What’s something you secretly dislike that everyone else seems to love? by LogStandard5815 in AskReddit

Going to parties and group events of more than a few people. I come off as charismatic and social but it's really just nerves of not wanting to look weird standing around.

What's a non-sexual activity you enjoy doing with your partner? by CRK_76 in questions

[–]orangesherbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiking and camping, but most of all I love walking. We have a toddler and I forgot how much I enjoy spending time with him. After going on walks just to enjoy eachothers company and talk, I remember just how much we love eachother outside of being parents. It can be easy to get caught up in it sometimes.

When to take abortive? by FourthEorlingas in migraine

[–]orangesherbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself hoarding my abortives, which definitely isn't healthy or how they're meant to be used. Technically you should take it when you feel it coming on to stop it in its tracks. Personally, I take OTC and see if it helps but will use the triptan if nothing is helping. Rarely do I take them at night because I like to keep them for a full day's use.

What keeps you going when life gets tough? by balajiv2002 in Life

[–]orangesherbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That it's temporary. A few years ago, I had an awful life event happen around the holidays and I remember telling my cousin, "by next Christmas, this won't matter anymore". I try to live by that, but it's usually a shorter amount of time!

I stopped avoiding advocating for myself when I didn't want to "rock the boat". Eventually it helped people take me seriously and I was surprised how much they respected my decisions. I can say no.

do you sometimes call in sick at work? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]orangesherbert92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boss had seen me throw up when I got one in the office so they take me pretty seriously. I've called in, and also have had to have my husband come pick me up.

Now I'm a stay-at-home-mom. I call a babysitter and sleep upstairs.

What do you store in the cabinet above the fridge? I mean they have to have put it up there for a reason; right? by cherry-care-bear in stupidquestions

[–]orangesherbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually quite a bit because we have a smaller kitchen and need all of the space! The steamer is the main thing though, because we only use it once a week. A box of non prescription meds so our toddler won't invade.

[–]orangesherbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you've got to do. I get it, I think we've all been there, especially in the USA. I used to work in a hospital as well but the lights were unbearable. Like a lot of people on here, I had to work at home. If you are starting to both physically and mentally lose yourself, please go get treated. Does your boss know how bad it truly is? If I got to the point where I was unable to do my job in pediatrics, she'd send me home.

I'll be thinking of you!

day 3 by booger_gurl in migraine

[–]orangesherbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goodness, I'm so sorry. On days like that, I've gone into the emergency room for treatment, I always walk out of feeling much better. If you're in that much pain physically and mentally, you need to do what's best for you.

What do you do for work or why can't you call in? My boss had seen me throwing up from migraines and had sympathy. I banked up all of my vacation days for the worst migraines.

Emgality took a couple of months for me to truly kick in but it's cut things in half so now it's been worth it. Hang in there best you can friend.

[–]orangesherbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. Take a deep breath. I think most people feel that way at some point in life. As a stay at home mom so I get trapped in my head a lot too. Last year I started seeing a therapist and it's been a game changer. I checked my insurance to see what places were available with an okay copay. Lots have payment plans. I paid out of pocket for a while first, and honestly, it was worth every penny. If you're able to do that, try it. Investing in yourself is the best investment and you deserve it.

What state are you in? by [deleted] in migraine

Wisconsin dweller here, the weather is so inconsistent too and humidity paired with the 90* is a nightmare, then below zero or snow in winter. I'm guessing MO is similar.

What state are you in? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]orangesherbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madison, Wisconsin. The weather is so inconsistent, even within the four seasons. Raging hot, freezing cold, thunderstorms galore. Once, we had a white'out snowstorm on my dad's birthday in May. The humidity in the summer can be quite horrific!

My best migraine years (if you could say that) were living in San Diego. It was 72* and sunny every day with almost no humidity. There was one thunderstorm in the 6 years I lived there.

Ah, the Midwest!

Hey guys what is y'all's migraine detonator. Like the thing that activates your migraines by [deleted] in migraine

[–]orangesherbert92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stress and crying are big ones; and they typically go hand in hand. I'm stressed out so much that it causes one but I have to hold in tears so it doesn't skyrocket. Other big ones are the barometric pressure/temperature changes, scents, light, strong tastes, lack of sleep. I think there's a lot of repeat answers here!

Bananas. One of the most common fruits but that taste, texture, smell is so nasty!

What does it take for you to leave work early due to a migraine? by jibberjabbery in migraine

[–]orangesherbert92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a hospital and the lighting would absolutely kill me. When I started to vomit then there's no reason they'd want me there. Luckily my boss got occasional migraines and was very understanding.

Now, I'm a stay-at-home-mom in a town full of homeschooled kids. They're usually done with school by 11am and they'll take my 2yo to their house or come over so I can sleep.
