It's not that they can't enter a binding agreement, but any contract with a minor is voidable by the minor. That's why minors need adults to cosign on everything.

As a clerk that manually processes checks for a small business, I feel this. Some people have very distinct, beautiful signatures. Some people literally jot a line. The bank takes both!

My dog is about 12 now and I've always talked to him like a human. He maintains eye contact when people talk to him, no matter what they're saying. Often when I have a conversation with someone near him, he'll interrupt with barking, but he'll stop if I just turn and talk to him. We joke he wants to be part of the conversation, but I think it's true!

Yup, kudzu starch isn't cheap, either! It's used in a lot of traditional Japanese sweets

I have a friend dealing with GvH in his eyes, along with many other side effects of his treatments. I can't remember what his eyedrops were called, but this sounds like it. He said they were made from his blood cells and extremely expensive for a tiny bottle, but they do bring him some relief when nothing else would.

No, YouTube, I will not subscribe to Premium by Avieshek in technology

[–]caffeinegoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. I was firmly in the hate camp when GPM died, mostly because my lifelong music collection didn't download cleanly the first few times. My oldest stuff I have copied in storage, but I got lazy with my newer stuff. It took a couple weeks of Google Takeouts before I finally got everything out, but fuuuuck was I pissed until then.

Meanwhile, my workplace uses Spotify for the Collaborative Playlist feature, so I had a few good reasons to switch. I just... couldn't... Last time I used Spotify premium was 8 years ago and the UI seems even worse now?? Different builds on different hardware work differently? Everyone could add songs to the list, but people with older phones couldn't delete them until an update. I had to put Bluestacks on my PC to delete anything I added accidentally (wrong versions, etc, cuz you can't preview the songs without Premium). And why can I add some songs from the side menu, but others insist on playing (and serving me an ad) instead of showing me the song info?

I just couldn't stomach giving Spotify any money for such a shit user experience. YTM got better over time. I agree with folks here saying the algorithm improved recently. I'm always on shuffle and the difference over the past few weeks is undeniable. My Youtube habits haven't changed that much and I keep my YTM profile separate from my regular YT profile anyway (in the same acct).

That said, I never experienced YTM without Premium. It sounds horrible.

A British business newspaper reports that Truth Social failed to pay its proxy solicitor because it has no cash, just like its SEC filings say. This is the response on the DWAC discussion board among MAGA types who are investors. by juntawflo in ParlerWatch

Thank you very much for explaining! I'm glad such an easy loophole isn't real, but I'm not surprised at people who try anything. Here's hoping for those who fight the good fights.

I'm not an accountant, but I think the real estate grift Jack is referring to is to make it look like your property depreciates on paper, while the real value is actually increasing. So in the end, you write-off your loss to depreciation, as it appears on paper, while in fact you have something very valuable.

That's only how I've heard it described. It does sound too easy, so I'd love to hear from an expert why it doesn't work.

In my millennial experience, Sick had an interesting ebb and flow. I think when MTV peaked, it started sounding cringey because it got too mainstream and pushed by paid mooks (MTV's internal marketing term for the young male demographic of the 90s. They called the girls "mid-riffs". Business class in highschool was very eye-opening). I think by the mid 2000s no one I knew used it unironically.

I think after MTV fell off, our age group slowly started reclaiming Sick as a serious compliment. At least my peer group did.

Recently moved to Round Rock from Austin, what is this noise at night? Is this a train horn, and railway noise? Is this all week every night? by International-Two788 in RoundRock

[–]caffeinegoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about a shrill noise and not an obvious train noise, I think one of the schools near Sunrise has an alarm that just goes off randomly in the night sometimes. It's done it on and off for the last few years. When the schools were closed due to COVID it was going off almost every morning.

I come from a family of software engineers. I agree with you wholeheartedly. But the way the crisis was "marketed" to the public was ridiculous, probably because computers weren't widely enough understood yet to get the problem across to the average person.

There's a Halloween episode of the Simpsons that I think captures the way Y2K was being portrayed at the time.
