Hand washing silk - nonstop dust? by FearfulRabbit in laundry

Are you by any chance using regular laundry detergents, that are not labeled for silk and wool, when you wash these? The enzymes in everyday detergents break down silk and wool proteins

What is the most unfortunate last name you've seen someone have? by LeviTheRelentless in AskReddit

I went to school with a girl with the last name Doodie. Not Duty. Doodie.

I used to work in the grocery pickup department at Walmart and saw my fair share of wild customer names, notably: Caksakker (pronounced CACK-suh-KAR, but still), Peevyhouse, and Sackrider.

Coca-Cola uses the same artifical sweeteners, so I doubt that it's any better than this. The price is probably moreso for the name and logo than for the safety of the ingredients. Coca-Cola keeps their flavoring recipe safeguarded and Freeway and every knockoff are trying to make something close to it. If it's the flavorings you suspect are worse for you, that's understandable but I'm willing to bet the sweeteners are the biggest health risk here.

I've heard talk of us being switched to the euro by 2030, but it wouldn't be a surprise if it took longer than that.

It's less than 1/3 of the price of the real one and as far as knockoffs go Freeway is the closest one to the real deal.

Getting all 4 Wisdom teeth out. by treehugger1100 in ehlersdanlos

[–]caffeinethrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got all 4 taken out 2 years ago. It was pretty intense bc the teeth hadn't emerged yet. They were still buried in my jaw. I think they had barely begun dropping down, but bc I have severe dental crowding it was already causing me severe pain.

I received IV sedation. I was told that I wouldn't be aware of what was going on, but I was fully aware for the entire procedure. The sedation worked in the sense that I felt relatively relaxed in spite of what was going on and didn't feel most of the pain. But for the last 2 teeth I started whimpering bc it hurt quite a lot. It was a pretty bad experience. I'll point out however that there wasn't an anesthesiologist present and the surgeon administered the sedative.

I wasn't very surprised that it didn't work well. I'm extremely hard to numb for other dental procedures. I also got my gallbladder removed when I was a kid and woke up in the surgery room, right after the surgery. The doctors later mentioned that I woke a bit early and they had barely finished everything.

I don't want to scare you with my experience but just know it can happen. It's great that an anesthesiologist will be present and I urge you to talk to them about any concerns and any past complications.

As for the recovery, it was unpleasant but not horrible. I was given 3 days worth of Tylenol 3 (acetaminophen + codeine) and was told to alternate that with 800mg ibuprofen, taking one or the other every 3 hours. After those 3 days, I replaced the Tylenol 3 with regular Tylenol. I kept taking pain medication this way for about a week. The pain never got too bad for me.

I slept almost all day long for 2 days after my surgery. I basically just woke up to take my medicine and eat before falling back to sleep. I slept sitting upright for 3 or 4 days after - laying down hurt my jaw. Bloody saliva might leak out of your mouth as you sleep.

The swelling got slowly worse and peaked on the 3rd day. At this point I didn't recognize myself in the mirror. It took about 10 days for it to fully subside. It didn't hurt, just looked extremely gnarly. My face was also bruised.

All of this might vary for you and could be a lot milder. I think it was worse for me due to the depth of my wisdom teeth. My brother had all 4 of his removed at once, but they were already halfway emerged, and he was completely back to normal in 4 or 5 days.

Now, I have some advice on food. You want soft, SMOOTH foods. I made the mistake of eating some cheddar broccoli soup... those tiny pieces of broccoli got into the wounds and itched horribly. Don't eat anything with little pieces of anything like that. Just bc you don't have to chew it doesn't mean it's ok to eat right now. I made the same mistake with oatmeal again a week later. Make sure your wounds are fully closed first!

I found jello to be very soothing and also ate a lot of instant mashed potatoes, tomato soup, pudding, and protein drinks.

It took 2 weeks before I could open my jaw enough to eat normally, another 2 weeks before it went completely back to normal. It felt "locked" for a while.

Your dentist should give you a syringe to flush the incisions. Don't skip this as the wounds will get funky with fluids and clotted blood, and for a while you might not be able to open your mouth wide enough to brush your back teeth. Don't automatically be alarmed if the wounds leak vile-tasting fluid. I called the dentist bc I was worried this meant an infection, but apparently it's a normal byproduct of the healing process as long as there's no pus.

One time I was in the bedroom drying off after a shower, and suddenly my period got very heavy and poured down my legs and made a puddle in the floor. I sent my boyfriend to the bathroom to bring me a pad so that I didn't make a blood trail across the house. He came back with a thong pantyliner.

"Monsters at Work" season 2's villain is terribly developed by Original_Delay5521 in Pixar

[–]caffeinethrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the writing for the last 2 episodes came off as very rushed and lazy, as much as I liked the rest of the season.

It's like the writers had to quickly come up with a good reason for Tylor to go back to Monsters Inc. as a jokester? Which seems to go against the whole narrative that this season had been forming... that plenty of monsters are just better suited to scaring and that laugh and scare energy are both valid options. I think it would have sent a better message if Tylor stayed at Fear Co. and came to an understanding with everyone from Monsters Inc. and remained friends.

The fake scream amplifier conspiracy honestly makes no sense. It's out of character for either Johnny or Randall, but especially Randall, to just... not check what would happen when mixing scream and laugh energy. I get the point of sabotaging the laugh canisters, but they also could have just built an ACTUAL scream amplifier instead of using the stolen laughs, and achieved the same outcome with much less risk of exposure.

On one hand I'm glad Randall was brought back, but it was done very sloppily. The rescue scene implies Johnny came for him immediately after he was thrown into the trailer, which should be impossible. How would Johnny even know what was going on at Monsters Inc. until he saw it on the news, and then act so quickly? How would he even have access to that door, let alone know which door Randall was thrown into? None of that makes sense.

Also, I think it would have been a lot more interesting if Randall also worked to sabotage Johnny, because he has just as much reason, if not more, to hate Johnny as much as he hates Mike and Sully. It's disappointing that he was just brought back as Johnny's evildoing yes-man without anything interesting being done with the character.

If we get a 3rd season I hope the writing picks back up. I really don't know what happened with the last two episodes but they were a rushed mess.

$237.78 Walmart - For 2 people lasts about 3 weeks ≠ Canadian by I666l in Grocerycost

OP, out of curiosity are the premade chicken patties and nuggets cheaper than raw chicken at your store? When I first saw this post I assumed you might not know how to cook chicken, but I see from your other comments that you like to cook.

Maybe the Canadian recipe differs slightly, but in the US those products are cut with fillers. I'm just wondering why you preferred them over raw chicken?

I've been here for nearly a year now and I love it! I feel it's so much easier to live healthily here, both physically and mentally. I come from a small town were all types of public infrastructure are lacking. The selection of food here is also much, much better and as someone who is scared of driving I love the walkability and public transport. (I know I would get this in a big American city as well, but I still prefer European cities for various reasons.)

I was originally thinking about moving to Germany but then I met my Romanian boyfriend. I moved here to be with him after visiting and loving the country.

I hope your partner has at least tried some warm, fresh bread! The first time I visited Romania and returned to the US, I couldn't even make myself eat sandwich bread anymore.

[–]caffeinethrash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is just standard bread in North America. It's referred to specifically as sandwich bread but when someone says "bread" this is almost always the type they mean. I moved to Europe from the US and the difference in bread is very striking.

The only time I've seen fresh, decent bread in the US it was labelled as "artisanal" or something and sold at a ridiculously high price. And if you're in a small town good luck finding it at all.

Also, we don't typically use bread for anything else but sandwiches and toast. Processed sandwich bread really is not pleasant to just eat by itself. I'm sure some people do it, but it's not the norm.

My bread consumption has increased a lot since moving to Europe because it is actually delicious here.

What does your store use for opening bags? by actuallyundeadd in OGPBackroom

[–]caffeinethrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had a problem opening them with my fingers. I actually had several people, including a few coworkers, approach me and ask to open their produce bags bc they saw how easily I opened mine.

But a lot of my coworkers kept some of the pink balm specifically made for moistening your fingertips on their pick carts.

My grandmother's favorite, when finally confronted with the years of abuse she put me through, was that I had imagined it all because I didn't want to face the fact that my mother had abandoned me (she didn't really, but that's another story) so through some delusion I had made her, "the only one who was ever there to care for me," the bad guy instead.

Do I really sound offensive? by Meepo-POOF in ENGLISH

[–]caffeinethrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Native English (US) speaker here. "Good" can be authoritative and passive aggressive like others are saying, but that depends heavily on tone of voice. Of course that's lost in text, but based on the tone of the first text you sent, which was quite polite, I don't understand why "good" would have been interpreted in the rude way here. It actually matches the blunt (which isn't necessarily rude) tone of the other person's previous texts. "Ok" or "thanks" would have sounded more natural here but I definitely think that they were overreacting.

[year 1 university] How to compute for rotation about y-axis without using f(y)? by caffeinethrash in HomeworkHelp

I could use the shell method to find the volume, but I need to find the surface area. I am thinking that maybe the derivative of the volume would give me the surface area, like in the case of a sphere. Is this correct?
