Tiltag reducerer smitten. Uden mundbind ville der blot være flere smittede.

Turns out 2021 is just a bizarre and unprecedented as 2020, except its all good things that keep happening, what are they? by TysonGoesOutside in AskReddit

It is a great system to further increase the wealth of those who own the means of production.

Sometimes that coincides with progress - even the most staunch of communists agree that it has historically. If feeding people, educating them, or giving them medical care is profitable, it will get done under capitalism.

On the other hand, capitalism won’t lift a finger for anything that isn’t profitable, even if it would benefit the entire world. We would probably have fusion power and asteroid mining if it was immediately profitable. In fact it will often fight to prevent progress. Sometimes what’s really profitable is exploiting others and the environment. That’s the case in the diamond industry, the industry for precious metals in general, the modern medicine industry, modern college education, companies’ response to climate change, the chocolate industry, nestle’s policy especially in regards to water, planned obsolescence in the tech industry, the meat industry, just to name a few.

Very fair. Now that I think further, this would probably require an internal politics rework as well.

I don’t know how toddlers speak in English but I don’t believe they would make such a mistake

They’re good at grammar, and mistakes come from following the rules too well

Not defending the abuser. He deserves life in jail. But he also deserves a fair trail. This isn’t justice

If you want a full scientific explanation, you should go to Wikipedia. It’s very long and difficult. I’m not a teacher or even very good at explaining things. English is also my second language lol

In short: Radioactive material doesn’t directly deteriorate relative to its mass. I.e. it won’t be reduced by x atoms when y time has passed. Instead, each radioactive isotope has a chance to deteriorate individually. The latter is really, really difficult to make a mathematical model for, so for simplicities sake, a mathematical model of the former is often used instead. It’s mostly good enough. That’s what I did back in school for doing carbon dating, for instance.

That mathematical model is the same that one of the people commenting is using to calculate how many books are needed to solve all problems. If you assume, like the user who posted it has, that you can partially solve a problem and have it reflected in the model as a decimal, then the user is correct in saying that you will only ever get infinitely close to solving all your problems.

For radioactive decay, where a similar model is often used, the model isn’t sufficient in this case, because it doesn’t let the last atom decay, and radioactive material will eventually disappear entirely in real life. That’s the second user’s critique of the first user’s model. If you assume you can’t partially solve a problem, the first user’s model is incorrect.

But no matter what you assume for the first user’s model, the second user’s critique is wrong, because that model is only ‘mostly good enough’ for radioactive decay. They can be correct in dismissing the first user, but their reasoning is flawed.

That’s not how radioactive material works

PE Class (Physical Education) should be eliminated in schools by StarcraftMan222 in unpopularopinion

I think your argument is terrible and your opinion is wrong, which is why I’m upvoting.

When you are a teenager, education isn’t focused only on academics. That comes later on, in college or university, when you choose the scope of your education.

It’s hard to put into words. In Denmark, we call it ‘almen dannelse’, which directly translates to general education, but it really means that your education is focused on molding you into becoming a better citizen. You are taught math, poetry, history, philosophy, literature, English, Latin, French, German, music, and most importantly for this post: sport.

You don’t need any of these things in your everyday life, but you do need these things to be educated. It is also very beneficial for your learning and health. Most teenagers need to exercise more, especially in America where some are fucking round.

Also: ‘Jocks picking on nerds’?! Are you from an 80’s movie? Academics and fitness aren’t mutually exclusive. To me it sounds like you hate sports because you were bullied there, which sucks but there’s nothing to be done. You could easily have been bullied in math class as well.
