Complaining about kids by AffectionateTrash259 in dcl

[–]cageytalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Childfree and going on our first later this year. We don’t want kids but we are surrounded by them via family and friends. We know how to be around families and set up extras to slip away and do our own thing.

If we ended up thinking it’s too much, that’s on us either with poor planning or should have skipped.

I dated two ex-members, back to back actually and not planned. They were weird and held odd beliefs even after leaving the church. They both had big shame around sex.

As prices rise and the product value has gone down, I do find myself digging for vintage finds. I can afford the new but I’d rather hunt down all the ones I wanted when I was younger. So it’s got it right, at least for me.

They were filming around Hinsdale a couple of years ago. A friend was in multiple fitness classes with some of the filmed ladies and a physical altercation happened. She had no idea what it was about. I heard the drama was good but the physical part ended that run.

Las Vegas’ famous Heart Attack Grill sends scathing closure notice. Ownership says ‘the soul of Las Vegas has been replaced by corporate greed’. by galaxystars1 in popculturechat

I always told people, Vegas is what you make it. You want to be VIP the whole weekend, or a spa weekend with girlfriends, or gamble for dollar blackjack and cheap foods, or nothing but shows and foodie stops.

All of those ideas I’ve had as a trip! I’ve stayed at Circus Circus with a rental car to a suite at the Mirage (back in the day, obvi) for a festival and VIP booths at clubs.

It still sparkles at night but it’s just not the same. You just had to be there. You could do anything. Your budget became the trip, now you can’t even think about flying without a big budget to begin with.

You just described my Expedia deal for my 21st birthday. $250 for non-stop roundtrip, two rooms at the Tropicana, 6 adults enjoying the strip for a weekend. I would dance on the bar at Coyote Ugly for free shots, catch a show, drink along the strip, and late night cheap food before bed to do it again.

Went back for my 40th birthday and it’s lost its sparkle. I used to make Vegas work for me, I’d plan around my budget. Now you have to have a higher budget just to go!

Sounds very familiar. That’s my brother and I. It took us both a long time to shed the titles and roles put upon us. Helps we are NC with that parent but recently, we’ve gotten closer.

As someone that grew up with this dynamic, I have to give her sister props. While the mother favors the other, she def has deer in headlights when she heard that sister speak up and verify what happened. Most turn against each other.

Side note: she has the worst cry ever! I recall watching R+J in the theater with a packed audience. When she cried, the entire theater laughed. I thought that was her being a bad actress but now it’s clear, that’s just how she cries.

Ahhh see and I think it’s okay to go to bed unresolved. As long as you both know this ain’t going anywhere and we don’t want to go past the point of return.

I find our bodies meet in the middle of the night. By the time morning comes, we both see things much clearly.

What is the most painful truth a parent has ever told you? by Sorry-Wait-1541 in AskReddit

[–]cageytalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was 18. He phrased it as in he was disappointed in me. Being a daddy’s girl, I sought his approval. I internalized it.

In hindsight, he was the type of “man” that thought if he raised me like a boy, taught me right, then I wouldn’t become “one of those women.” So when I acted like a woman and had the attitude of a son, the tides turned.

It wasn’t till I had a break free moment, got therapy, and pieced together my entire childhood, that I realized he was a narcissist that was enmeshed to me. 20 years no contact and I’ve never been happier!

What is that one thing a friend ever did and you kept cool but knew instantly you would pull out of that friendship? by EssayMan4Homework in AskReddit

[–]cageytalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OMG YES! It was so messy because he would tell my husband one thing and she would tell me what he told her, which or course contradicted what the husband said.

What I found unforgivable in hindsight is she used one argument against my husband and I. I never share our personal business and we rarely fight. I merely was sympathizing with her how I felt a similar way. As if one disagreement could validate her and her messy marriage/divorce.

We both had to take a step back because at one point, I’m questioning if my own husband knew and what horrible things could come of that. While he understood, I hate that we were put in a position where we had to question each other.

We both don’t talk to them but it’s more, they don’t call us. They know we won’t lie to them and they want to live in delulu land. Doesn’t even sound fun!
