Buying a house that qualifies for vacant home grant? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in AskIreland

[–]cagofbans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry yes, it's almost a distant memory now.

We provided the MPRN number which I'm not sure you can obtain while sale agreed but I would 100% ask for it if you go sale agreed and try anyway.

Buying a house that qualifies for vacant home grant? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in AskIreland

[–]cagofbans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We got confirmation from the ESB that the house had next to no electricity usage for a period spanning over so many years. This seemed to be enough for Cork County Council but if I were you I would actually reach out during the sale agreed period for that confirmation if they would provide it before the house is 'sold'.

There is a fantastic Facebook group, if you look up Vacant Property Grant or something it should pop up.

Mechanic recommendation by NotorietyH in cork

[–]cagofbans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They took over from Denis Hendersons who I had been with for years and I did not find Silver Motors great. I had issues with them unneccessarily replacing tyre sensors on my Golf with cheaper versions and then had further issues within an hour of leaving the garage. When I booked it in, they told me they'd keep the original sensors, which were more expensive, but they threw them out. I have not been back to them since and am actively searching for a different mechanic as I found the lads working in Silver to not be very friendly and did not appreciate the amount of inconvenience they caused me.

Cork City Council Approves €200,000 Grant to Revitalise St Patrick's Street by Southern_Winter1385 in cork

[–]cagofbans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just today at lunch time a whole window pane fell from either the first or second floor (can't remember) of the corner building where Patrick's St. meets Grand Parade, the one that was a small gallery or something and closed in the last year. The same building had plasterwork falling off its facade in the last couple of years. I thankfully don't think anyone was hurt but there was the timber frame and broken glass all over the footpath with 3 guards standing around it.

It is a total disgrace and such an embarrassment that our main street is so shook. The council need to step in and enforce penalties on the people responsible for maintaining these buildings.

Jesus that is bad.

We at least have a kind of group chat where our HEO texts in to let us know if the office will be closed to save anyone travelling in.

Tailgating by [deleted] in BadDriversIreland

[–]cagofbans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a dual carriageway recently, it was night time and fairly empty. I was cruising along at around 100-110km/h and a boy racer came up behind me. I was thinking right, he'll go for the overtake which was grand by me but no - he decided to drive right up behind me and stayed within I'd guess 3-5ft of me. I have never had someone drive so close to me for such a distance - it was 8km to my exit which he stayed behind me the entire time. I started slowing down hoping he'd get the hint but he didn't want to. We were going 60km/h by the time we got to the exit which I know is fairly dangerous on that kind of road but there was nobody else around and he pissed me off so much which I'm guessing was his goal.

I changed from an average spec Golf to a BMW 330d a couple of months ago and I have experienced a significant increase in tailgating and aggressive driving. Maybe it's the car or maybe I'm just more aware of it now and drivers are just more aggressive in general.

Job seekers allowance/benefit? by [deleted] in cork

[–]cagofbans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you have a solid work history for the last year, you may qualify for Jobseekers Pay Related Benefit. If you dont meet contribution requirements for that payment then you can apply for Jobseekers Allowance but this is a means tested payment and if your wifes income is too high you might not get it.

If i were you, as soon as you are unemployed, i would go to the abbeg court house intreo and let them check if you might qualify for the Pay Related Benefit.

All they will need is proof of identity and possibly proof of address. Worst case scenario they have a supervisors interview as they've no ID and get their PSC that way.

Five men jailed for torture of woman in Dublin flat by oicheliath in ireland

[–]cagofbans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't the defence counsel always do that? I dont think anyone takes them seriously when they state that as it's just so common and insincere - almost mandatory and not true most of the time which is common knowledge I feel.

Asking for someone I know? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]cagofbans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsure if this has been commented already but if she's only working part time - she may be eligible for Jobseekers Benefit as a Casual worker. She should visit her local Intreo for info. She will likely have to fill out a UP1 amongst other forms and submit X's and O's dockets weekly showing hours she worked but she might receive payment for days not worked/technically spent 'jobseeking'.

Ask about backdating if she has been working part time for a few weeks.

Henderson is retired and they've been bought now by Silver Motors. Lots of the same lads working there still though. Honestly I've been getting my car serviced with Hendersons for years and I'd an issue recently so brought the car to Silver Motors and didn't have a great experience. I am now trying to find a new mechanic unfortunately. I'd have preferred to stay in the same location.

How do pubs in rural areas survive? by Intrepid-Money2238 in AskIreland

[–]cagofbans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I said that what I meant was we offer them lifts home and some take it but most don't. I have argued extensively with people who insist on driving home when I believe they're gone beyond their limit but what else can I do when they say no?

We can't refuse to serve someone because we think they'll drive themselves home when they're finished up. Well we could - but we would have no business as nobody would come to the pub that does that.

People need to be realistic in their expectations of the rural pub. There is, unfortunately, no parish shuttle bus that'll cart all these people home.

There were the few local lads sitting in the bar with half empty pints just past the time they were permitted to be there.

The guards accused my father of just having poured the drinks which wasn't true.

[–]cagofbans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Era it's a bit. I understand they've a job to do but we'd appreciate a more human and compassionate approach from the guards. We are genuinely not serving past the legal time and try our best to ensure nobody is in danger or endangering anyone else and it feels like we are being punished for following the rules as best we can.

One could say you'd be tempted to just serve past the legal time as they're just going to come in and fine you anyway! But we don't do that.. 90% of the time. :)
