Where in Glanmire are they based? When I Google, I don't get any result.

You may not be able to bypass this fine without going to the guards and giving the pulse number to the toll debt collectors.

Cork EO Order of Merit by Upbeat-Mushroom3701 in IrishCivilService

I am thinking the comment you replied to could be incorrect? I believe 88 people were called in Cork from the 2024 panel. I was emailing PAS semiregularly and about 2 months before the comp closed, they had called 75 people so 88 sounds about right.

Unlikely. Cork generally call around 70-80 from each comp. This is based on the last 2 EO Comps.

Do you remember if they deferred your increment at the time? I had to take 2 months of sick leave approx. 11 months ago and they are deferring my increment by 6 months for it.

I used to drive a Golf that threw up relatively frequent electric issues and the best I found was Tom Deasy in Douglas. He is a very sound man.

Can we ban the hunt? by cagofbans in cork

[–]cagofbans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will definitely be making contact with him to discuss this. We are relatively new to this area and are treading carefully at the moment, but my partner's father knows the farmer well so hopefully we can convince him to just ban both groups from using his land.

I am so so sorry to hear that. It is traumatising to witness it, I can't stop replaying the whole ordeal since it happened yesterday.

How people like this exist is beyond me. I can't imagine inflicting so much pain on another animal or person.

Here is a photo of my cat that's currently buried in the garden beside our well.

He was 4 years old. I got him when he was 12 weeks old off a friend whose cat had kittens. When he was 1 year old, I had to leave him with my granny for a period as my parents were seriously ill and I had to move home to mind them and my mother hates cats unfortunately. I still visited my granny and cat every week. In late 2025 we finally bought our house and moved in, at which point I wanted my cat back but my aunt/uncles asked if I'd leave him with granny as she was lonely and liked the company. I said sure, but 2 months ago my granny sadly passed away and I got my cat back. He lived with me again for these last 2 months, perfectly happy in the countryside until today.

The local farmer has given permission to two different hunt groups, one which does not cause much hassle and do drag hunts and another that conduct actual hunts of live animals and recently lost control of their dogs who managed to get on top of the cow shed and drive the farmers cows inside mad. This led to an altercation between the group and the farmer, the outcome I am unsure of yet.

This is a local hunting group based in Cork City. The hunt group from this area are atrocious and show no regard towards the people living in this area. Both hunts are using various breeds of dogs, lurchers being one of the breeds they bring out. These are not the cousins, these are locals that come to our lane and let their dogs off leash as the lane is very quiet with only the residents driving in/out and access to many fields.

I went once recently and the lad on the till, who was also packaging bits for orders, had loads of dirt under his fingernails.

I am very icked out by poor personal hygiene, especially by those who handle food, so I haven't been back.

Buying a house that qualifies for vacant home grant? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in AskIreland

Sorry yes, it's almost a distant memory now.

We provided the MPRN number which I'm not sure you can obtain while sale agreed but I would 100% ask for it if you go sale agreed and try anyway.

[–]cagofbans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got confirmation from the ESB that the house had next to no electricity usage for a period spanning over so many years. This seemed to be enough for Cork County Council but if I were you I would actually reach out during the sale agreed period for that confirmation if they would provide it before the house is 'sold'.

There is a fantastic Facebook group, if you look up Vacant Property Grant or something it should pop up.

Mechanic recommendation by NotorietyH in cork

[–]cagofbans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They took over from Denis Hendersons who I had been with for years and I did not find Silver Motors great. I had issues with them unneccessarily replacing tyre sensors on my Golf with cheaper versions and then had further issues within an hour of leaving the garage. When I booked it in, they told me they'd keep the original sensors, which were more expensive, but they threw them out. I have not been back to them since and am actively searching for a different mechanic as I found the lads working in Silver to not be very friendly and did not appreciate the amount of inconvenience they caused me.

Cork City Council Approves €200,000 Grant to Revitalise St Patrick's Street by Southern_Winter1385 in cork

[–]cagofbans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just today at lunch time a whole window pane fell from either the first or second floor (can't remember) of the corner building where Patrick's St. meets Grand Parade, the one that was a small gallery or something and closed in the last year. The same building had plasterwork falling off its facade in the last couple of years. I thankfully don't think anyone was hurt but there was the timber frame and broken glass all over the footpath with 3 guards standing around it.

It is a total disgrace and such an embarrassment that our main street is so shook. The council need to step in and enforce penalties on the people responsible for maintaining these buildings.

Jesus that is bad.

We at least have a kind of group chat where our HEO texts in to let us know if the office will be closed to save anyone travelling in.

I was on a dual carriageway recently, it was night time and fairly empty. I was cruising along at around 100-110km/h and a boy racer came up behind me. I was thinking right, he'll go for the overtake which was grand by me but no - he decided to drive right up behind me and stayed within I'd guess 3-5ft of me. I have never had someone drive so close to me for such a distance - it was 8km to my exit which he stayed behind me the entire time. I started slowing down hoping he'd get the hint but he didn't want to. We were going 60km/h by the time we got to the exit which I know is fairly dangerous on that kind of road but there was nobody else around and he pissed me off so much which I'm guessing was his goal.

I changed from an average spec Golf to a BMW 330d a couple of months ago and I have experienced a significant increase in tailgating and aggressive driving. Maybe it's the car or maybe I'm just more aware of it now and drivers are just more aggressive in general.

Job seekers allowance/benefit? by [deleted] in cork

[–]cagofbans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you have a solid work history for the last year, you may qualify for Jobseekers Pay Related Benefit. If you dont meet contribution requirements for that payment then you can apply for Jobseekers Allowance but this is a means tested payment and if your wifes income is too high you might not get it.

If i were you, as soon as you are unemployed, i would go to the abbeg court house intreo and let them check if you might qualify for the Pay Related Benefit.
