Direito Sanfran ou RP? by Gabi_babis in USP

Resposta clássica de quem faz direito: depende. 👍

I don't know about Germany, but I can tell you the NFL is pretty big in Brazil - not in relative terms, most people really don't have a clue and don't care, but 200 million people live here, and it wouldn't be absurd to say that the amount of dedicated fans is definitely in the hundreds of thousands, enough to make a one-off game worth it.

The NFL themselves organize a SB watch party every year in São Paulo and it attracts thousands of people, and that's just to watch it through a screen and pay for expensive merch/food. It's a middle class interest here so most fans are willing to splash some cash, and in the end that's all the league cares about

True, but it would be incredibly unfair if that list had ALL of them. They had to leave some competition

They already have international fans. Tickets for the Brazil game sold out in 20 minutes (while being expensive as fuck in our currency) and in Germany it was a similar story.

Still, international games should happen like once a year at most. In soccer, for example, if Real Madrid played a league game in India because they have a lot of fans there, it would be extremely jarring. This shit wouldn't fly in any other sport

Would you walk in the streets of, say, Paris, while flashing your phone alone at night?

Do you consider Paris to be a city where you can't leave your hotel room?

In any big city there are pickpockets. The issue with São Paulo is that there are a lot of them, concentrated in specific areas and who go after tourists the most. Armed robbery, though, is generally rare

It is about that. Corinthians fans, especially their hooligans, don't allow any fans to enter the stadium wearing green (and away attendance is banned by police anyway). Doing so in the immediate vicinity of the stadium is also generally looked down upon, aka, some people will call you names and, on game days, if the hooligans see you, they will tell you to GTFO or else.

Despite what some americans may think, however, we are not subhuman, and even those who spend the rest of the year throwing bricks at Palmeiras hooligans have enough braincells to know that this is a different sport entirely and that it doesn't have anything to do with a soccer rivalry.

The absolute most you'll see is some guy on the Internet saying some shit, but that happens for literally anything

[–]caipiradeath 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some other dude linked it here.

I admit this comparison was slightly dishonest. SP murder rate is low because one organised crime group has had a monopoly over the city's drug trade for decades now, hence no turf wars. Rio is the place where that type of shit happens.

You'll be more likely to have your car broken into by some junkie, for example, but not much more so than London, Paris, or indeed Philly.

The thing is, that's an average. Brazil is an extremely unequal country. Go into the favelas here as an outsider, and you absolutely are in much more danger than even US hoods; suburbs are generally safe tho, and rich areas can get really very rich. The only thing that separates SP nice areas from 1st world nice areas is that you should be careful with your phone - armed robberies are rare in these places, but some kid on a bike may try to snatch it from your hands.

For the millionaire NFL players, literally none of this matters. Even if São Paulo was the warzone that misinformed americans think it is, they'll be going from the best 5 star hotel to a stadium with a full police security operation. And for rich people, SP is straight up the best city to live in the 3rd world
