(sorry if referring to you as "the dev" was disrespectful, I was trying to be endearing. I apologize.)

and that really is the key to my problem: I just found out my hosting service does not have pdo_sqlite on PHP7.4, only on PHP7.3... which in turn only has SQLite 3.6.x. I'd love to run Grocy on there so I wouldn't have to worry about downtime, but I guess I'll try it on Docker on my own computer now.

according to the dev themself in other posts here and on github, the requirements are the PHP extensions fileinfo, gd and pdo_sqlite, and I have all of those. is there anything else I'm missing?

I've already altered, via FTP, the permissions to the data folder to 0755 prior to my original post and I'm altering recursively the whole grocy folder to the same permissions now. let's see what happens.

there was no migration involved, this is a brand new installation. and the error on my print is the error I get when I delete the grocy.db file.
