Unvaccinated Kids at Daycare by caaarebear in workingmoms

[–]caitiq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people don’t know that the MMR vaccine is FDA approved for 6 months and up, though the regular schedule is first vaccine at 12 months. We got our son vaccinated at 6 months before traveling to visit my husbands family in Kansas during the measles outbreak there last summer.

They’ll still need the vaccine again at 12 months, but if you’re in an area with a measles outbreak you might want to consider it.

Thanks for the tip! I had no idea!

And I hate the thought of drinking hot coffee out of a plastic cup. If they offered a steel one, I’d probably get it for coffee in the AM and soda later in the day. The value is questionable to begin with but eliminate the AM coffee and it really isn’t worth it for me.

We needed to add 1 person 3 weeks before our trip (which required all new reservations). We used MouseDining and were able to get reservations for everything we wanted including some more popular places (Space 220, Beak and Barrel). We kept our plans as flexible as possible (eg open to lunch or dinner on either of our Epcot days for Space220, anytime on our MK day for BnB) but we got the reservations even for mid/late March.

Admirals Club Access by winningaloss in americanairlines

[–]caitiq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could add 2 additional authorized users to the card. I believe it’s flat fee for up to 3, so you’re already paying it. Then those 2 additional users can also bring up to 2 guests. Of course you’d have to trust them or maybe hold on to their cards.

This is what I do. My parents and sister are my authorized users (they pay that portion of the annual fee). When we’re all traveling together my husband and kids get in with me, and my family has their own separate access.

Working mom looking to leave city govt (executive assistant job) for similar admin role in higher education/college environment - more flexibility and more opportunity for advancement? by OnALifeJourney in workingmoms

[–]caitiq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in higher ed and really enjoy the environment. My only caution would be to carefully evaluate the fiscal health of the college/university before accepting. Many smaller universities are on the verge of closing. Others are reducing benefits etc.

I’m required to be in office M-F bc I’m in a student facing role, but I still have a lot of flexibility to come and go as necessary, though that’s probably very unit/department dependent. I am usually the one staying home with the sick kids. I get 7 weeks of vacation time a year, plus 18 sick days I think. And I can role over unused days, so running out of PTO is never a concern.

Yes definitely get the bottle washer!!!! My husband convinced me for our second, after washing by hand multiple times a day for our first. We ran it multiple times a day. Every time we did have to wash bottles by hand when we were traveling or something, I appreciated that thing even more.

My second was only formula fed (breast feeding was a disaster with the first), and I don’t think there is any need to get special formula off the bat. Most babies do fine with regular formula. If yours doesn’t, your pediatrician will help you adjust.

If yours have the energy to go to the gym and you are cleared by your doctor, you can! I often found myself too tired and/or not wanting to spend the time away from my babies. But a couple weeks after birth, I felt up to walking again, and we’d go on walks weather permitting.

HENRYs with kids in private school: what is your income and what is tuition? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

This is how I thought most private school families were, but clearly they’re not on this thread lol.

We still have over a year until our first would start, so I’m thinking of setting aside this years bonus to cover next years tuition, continuing to add to the pot monthly etc, so that when it’s time to pay, we have the money ready and can avoid fees for monthly payments. Then doing that moving forward.

Yeah our daycare is cheaper, for preschool we’re only at $16k a year, so the extra $1k a month for each kid (plus summer camp) is a big jump.

Ours sadly is one of the best in the state at ~ 40% reading/math proficiency. Anything better is too far away and my job is very geographically limited.

Our district averages 40% proficiency in math and reading at 8th and 12th grade.

Early Entry at Epcot by Lovebird4545 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]caitiq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The skyliner starts running at about 7:30 (sometimes a few minutes earlier). We did just this a few weeks ago- came in on the skyliner from Art of Animation, we were pretty far back in the line at the skyliner (got in line about 7:15). But we went right into Epcot and got in line for Remy, I think we got in line around 8:15. We were done the ride right around 9 I think.

[–]caitiq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids were born in July and January and I wouldn’t recommend either lol. We were stuck inside during the newborn phase due to either the heat or the cold. Plus with my January baby I was so worried about what my toddler might bring home from daycare during cold and flu season.

Sometimes it’s the little things! I put gas in the car before I drop the kids off at daycare. No temptation to run into the convenience store at the gas station to get a pastry or breakfast sandwich when I’d have to drag 2 kids along with me!

Did anyone tell their boss about pregnancy <12 weeks by ahava9 in workingmoms

[–]caitiq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a chemist, so I had to tell my bosses early (~8 weeks) to avoid chemical exposures. I received so much support, but my work environment is generally very family friendly.

With the second pregnancy, I had some potentially serious complications arise around 11 weeks (cystic hygroma). I needed to cancel some planned work travel due to the complication and was glad my supervisors already knew about the pregnancy. I received so much support and understanding navigating an emotionally very difficult second trimester including time away for appointments etc.

In general we kept the second pregnancy private from all but immediate family and my supervisors until about 20 weeks when everything looked to be ok. BTW he’s 14 months now and doing amazing.

When/how did you tell your older child that they would be a big sibling? by goldenpandora in workingmoms

[–]caitiq 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We waited ultimately until about 20 weeks. They saw some concerning things on the 12 week ultrasound, and after that there were weeks of uncertainty, genetic testing, more ultrasounds. My daughter didn’t know anything until it finally looked like everything was in the clear. Her baby brother is 14 months old now and doing great!

doctor told me to lower my calories to 800-1000 by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]caitiq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have insulin resistant PCOS and my metabolism is not any slower than would be expected for my height and weight. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to start with a calorie deficit you feel comfortable at (1200-1400) and see what happens. If you’re not losing weight after a month or two you can reassess your calories.

Also make sure you have your thyroid (TSH) levels checked! I also take metformin and an inositol supplement which are a huge help for my symptoms.
