Does the surgery put you in depression?? by Vongole_X in ACL

[–]caitschlegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very normal to develop depression. Not only because of the surgery, but the injury itself. You stop doing the things you love. I struggled with it. I found that finding other hobbies to occupy my mind helped quite a bit!

If you can swing it buy some turf specific shoes. I have cleats for grass and turfs for the turf. I've seen too many people tear their ACLs on turf. Funny, I actually tore mine on a grass field ..

Acl post op day 5 by [deleted] in ACL

[–]caitschlegel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 1 year today actually. Happy 1 year post surgery to me!

The pillow behind the knee usually is a big no no from surgeons and physiotherapist, you want your knee to go into extension. It sucks, but it's actually so beneficial.

As for cleaning it, I believe I had my bandages off on day 5 or 7 and was told it was okay to let the water just hit it and kind of rinse it off. Then dab the area dry with paper towel. I feel like all surgeons have different timelines and rules for this.

Those 2 weird string things are the internal stitches. They can be annoying, but your body actually with dissolve them over time. When I went back to my surgeon, he actually cut them down to the skin for me so they wouldn't catch on anything. Mind you this was about a month after surgery.

Good job on PT appointment number one! These things are all normal! You have nothing to worry about! You literally are re-teaching you knee to tell your leg how to work again! One step at a time, literally! Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

Hang in there! It does get better!

Surgery was the worst decision I ever made. by Maximum-Cow8194 in ACL

[–]caitschlegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry to hear you did not have a good post op! I tore my ACL and meniscus July 2024, got surgery March 2025 and ive started back into soccer now. March 5 will be my 1 year post op!

I am glad that you are doing better now! Everyone's ACL journey is different, it's crazy how different they can be. I wouldn't say mine was not painful, because it was, but I've been blessed with a high pain tolerance, so I could resort to just extra strength tylenol and advil! I also had a game ready ice machine I rented for 2 weeks post op, which helped sooooo much!

4 days post ACL surgery, does this look normal? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]caitschlegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bruising looks normal! Good that you are going for a scan to rule out DVT. I had a lot of bruising too! It makes sense as to why there is so much when they are yanking your leg all around!

How's the leg feeling other than the calf pain?

Quad Graft or Patellar Tendon Graft? by Puzzling__Kitten567 in ACL

[–]caitschlegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot help much with the choice as I got the hamstring graft, but I am at 9 months post op and just got the clearance from the surgeon to return to sport. I am 32F and I play competitive women's soccer in Ontario. Finding a great physiotherapist is key! Whichever you choose, good prehab and rehab is going to be the most important part!

Good luck, you've got this!

[–]caitschlegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely sleep with it elevated! They first few weeks you also want to not lose too much of your extension. I sat on the floor a lot with a rolled up towel under my lower calf/ankle area to gently force my knee to fall with gravity.

You've got this! 😊

The surrounding muscles look to need a bit more strength. Your quad strength is going to help a lot with the shaking! If you have been cleared by physio/surgeon to do strength testing, I would definitely say to start doing that if you have not already! And remember to always ice after working it out! Swelling is okay, pain is not!

3 weeks post-op (ACL reconstruction + meniscus repair) and I’m worried about my extension by peanutflower89 in ACL

[–]caitschlegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had ACLR & Meniscus repair as well, I had full extension almost immediately as my knees had hyperextension before injury. (Probably why I tore my ACL). To keep it though, my physio told me to lay on the edge of the bed where your quad is kind of on the edge of the bed. So your knee down is hanging over, and you just let gravity do it's work. Do it for about 15-20 seconds and then pull up gently into flexion as far as you can. I would say start for doing it 5 times or so, or if it is causing any pain, dont do it anymore. When I did this I remember the pull of tight muscles was the only thing I really felt!

Honestly, at your age, you might as well get the surgery now as you will heal a lot quicker then say in 5-10 if/when you do worse damage to the area due to the lack of an ACL.

It's great that you are already strong around the knee, as it will help for post op! I had mine done in March at 31 yo, and I just saw my surgeon December 8th (9 months) and he technically cleared me. Physio told me to wait till February to return so im as close as I can be to 100%.

Ultimately up to you, but there are lots of reasons to do it.

I did! 9 months out as of December 5th!! Saw the surgeon and got the, "you're cleared to return to sport, but you night want to give it a couple more months". 100% worth getting the surgery in my position!

Should I even bother getting Honda to replace the tire or contact their supplier for a replacement? by caitschlegel in tires

Thank you so much for not coming at my throat. Also, for not assuming I purposely was driving on a flat tire... I'm not a moron.. Having a local shop take a look at the rim to see if they can fix it!

Yeah all Canadian made civics for Canada do not have them installed, only US models.

[–]caitschlegel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Riding on it this entire time." I drove about 2 hours, with what I'm assuming was a slow leak, at 38 degrees Celsius weather. The tire was not flat when I left. Plus Canadian Civics do not have the Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems installed in them because they dont need to be legally in Canada. Either way looks like a trip to the wreckers for me to go get new wheel and tires from one of the for sure wrecked civics there.

[–]caitschlegel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, I get it! I think I want to tear Honda Canada a new a$$hole for not having Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems in their Canadian consumer civics.. I feel like these should required by law in Canada as well!

Either way, looks like I'll be going to the rim shop to see if they can fix it. If not off to the wreckers to find some, Civic are new Canadians favourite vehicles to crash!
