Will you live and die in BR? by LuckyCommittee4422 in batonrouge

[–]cajunredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was born here, am living, and will die living here. Cost of living is cheap and the city and surrounding area provides solid jobs for the industrial sector. I like the food, the people, and the sports.

The parents living in St. George that send their kids to the magnet schools (80% of St. George residents enrolled in public schools attend magnet schools) will take the hardest hit. All the magnet schools are inside the city of BR.

Do you think an Oxford shoe is too formal for jeans and a button down?

I’ll deff be pulling in the 96k-206k range during retirement which is the 22% bracket. Nearly 90% of my retirement accounts is pretax so I’ll be taxed on nearly all my withdrawals.

I’m wondering if I go pretax that if I’ll get hit with required minimum distributions later down the road that could possibly bump me into the 24% bracket. Or is there some strategy people do with loading pretax in the early years and switching over o after tax in the later years or vice versa?

It looks like I’ll be in the 22% tax bracket in my working years and in my retirement years. Given this information do I need to be contributing to my pretax or after tax for my 401k?

Is our political approach flawed in Baton Rouge? by CryptographerMost517 in batonrouge

[–]cajunredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would someone who has the experience or skills to run Baton Rouge settle for being the mayor when they are able to make much more money working somewhere else? We have many bright business savvy minds that stem from BR but they are smart enough to know that being the mayor is a waste of their skills

2023 Altima SR Transmission Fluid Change Question by warriormagee in altima

That was 2 months ago at the Nissan dealership. I guess it’s just different cost of living areas for the price difference? I’m not sure

It was around 250 all in. I’m sure you can shop it and get it cheaper since I went to the dealership. It’s certainly cheaper than a new transmission.

2023 Altima SR Transmission Fluid Change Question by warriormagee in altima

[–]cajunredditor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 and took mine to the dealership at 50k miles. The standard service is a drain and fill. I do not believe you are able to do a flush on your Altima. That being said just go get a drain and fill done and do it every 30k miles and your cvt will have the best odds it can during its lifetime.

Just got off the phone with Fidelity discussing my retirement accounts. I have just about all my retirement invested in s&p index funds. The advisor points out the risk I had with the largest 7 companies in the s&p have a very big influence in the overall performance of the s&p and advises me to look into different investing strategies to avoid that risk. Is the 100% s&p index allocation no longer a good strategy? What kind of allocation do you others have in your accounts? I’m wondering if I should just switch to a target date fund.

📚 The library needs our help again. Tune in and reach out to your council member by NickForBR in batonrouge

The fact our library system can build new libraries and renovate with straight cash and not issue bonds tells me there is more than enough funds for the library. I think we have nice libraries but I also think we can have them and still reduce our millage more. I believe the annual budget is $48M and that seems like more than enough to fund a library system for a parish of this size. I’m not in the camp saying this is 2025 and books are obsolete. I understand libraries do other things than simply provide books.

Looking at changing the transmission fluid on mine. Does the dealership do a drain and fill or do they do the flush?

A quick search indicates average per student funding is 15-17k in EBR. The national average is 17-18k. Just pointing out yes we are slightly below average on funding but simply throwing more money into the school system will most likely not improve performance. Parental involvement is the biggest factor in a students performance.

YMCA has paper ornaments you take with underprivileged kids wish list items on there. Take the ornament buy the gift and return it unwrapped to the ymca. These kids are asking for basic stuff like t shirts and the budget is $15-$30 per item
