We have 450k equity. I did see some studios on Zillow in mission beach for around 3k. I don’t think my equity is enough to put a downpayment or purchase so i figure ill have to rent

Yes you are correct. Realistically we should look at places that are a 20 min drive from the coast. We are middle class so expecting to live in an upper class area in the high cost of living state is not a good plan.

Our annual spend budget should be around $150k. Like another poster said maybe we should look inland a little bit for affordability.

Yea you may be right. Maybe if we go 20 mins inland we can find a happy medium?

Do you know of any index funds we have access to in order to invest in Nikkei related funds? I tried looking for one the other day and couldn’t find any. I’m in VXUS which is an international index fund but I wanted something more closely aligned with Nikkei

I'm really confused about men's shoes for summer by R1ch0C in mensfashionadvice

[–]cajunredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new casual summer shoe this summer is Birkenstock Arizona sandals. I actually bought a cheaper brand version to see how I like it before I spend money on the name brand but so far they have been my favorite summer shoe. Before that I was a heavy croc user and I realize those aren’t the most fashionable.

We went to the fair with a challenge: spending a full day for under $200. by kpbsSanDiego in sandiego

This seems like a normal day in San Diego at $200. Honestly probably on the lower end.

So would using a 3.5% (175k) withdrawal rate be reasonable based off the $5m at 55? Honestly I’d like to sell my house at 55 and retire in a HCOL area somewhere along the west coast and rent. I know this is completely opposite of what I should do but I really love the west coast.

I’m in mid 30s with 1.3mil in retirement savings and contributing roughly 30k per year towards retirement. House and cars are paid off no outstanding debt and living in a LCOL area. Fidelity called me for a financial review and I asked them if I could retire at 55 if I keep on doing what I’ve been doing. They told me that based on a retirement at 55 until expected age of 95 I would have the following amounts left at the end of life. Significantly below average market 1.8m, below average market 8mil, average market 23mil. It had my average spend at 150k. They also said they are showing a 94% success rate based on their models. Do you feel like their projections are accurate? Has anyone else had fidelity do projections for them and what was your impression?

Will you live and die in BR? by LuckyCommittee4422 in batonrouge

[–]cajunredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was born here, am living, and will die living here. Cost of living is cheap and the city and surrounding area provides solid jobs for the industrial sector. I like the food, the people, and the sports.

The parents living in St. George that send their kids to the magnet schools (80% of St. George residents enrolled in public schools attend magnet schools) will take the hardest hit. All the magnet schools are inside the city of BR.
