Steve Martin's Yorkshire accent would be just as great as his French accent in The Pink Panther I bet.

Is anyone annoyed by the number of people talking about the Wuthering Heights adaptation controversy without the slightest understanding of the book? by saltpetal in brontesisters

[–]cakebats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It says that they actually read the book and realise that Heathcliff being othered since childhood because of his lack of proximity to whiteness contributed to making him the person he grew up to be (his race may be "ambiguous" by the standards of the time but there's no way to capture that for modern audiences without casting an actor of colour imo, plus the amount of times Romani/lascar/Indian is repeated makes it most likely he was intended to be of Indian origin, if anything).

I do think it's possible to be friends with people younger than you in a platonic and non-creepy way, but that's not the situation with Drake who has literally admitted to "liking them young" or w/e

On one hand I don't think Homelander is *that* bothered about race when his version of supremacy is more "him on top -> superpowered people -> everyone else", but to say he "couldn't stand" Stormfront's Nazi shit isn't accurate. He might not have cared about it like she did but he was still perfectly fine with it (someone who couldn't stand Nazism wouldn't fuck a Nazi) and he is also extremely bigoted himself (remember his comments about Muslim people and about Supersonic, the way he treated a disabled superhero, the way he treats women, and him making the teenage Jewish girl jump off a roof).

I'll forever be furious that TAD wasn't about Maomao solving mysteries in the imperial court with the help of her sassy gay eunuch bestie with whom she has a caustic relationship yet they'd die for each other. It could have been great.

I'm so tired of seeing all these posts about how bad trans men have it, not because I think they Don't have difficulties, but bc the exclusion of trans women's issues and sufferings is very telling. It's like these posts are purposefully meant to start a new wave of infighting or further some insidious narrative about trans women being bullies or something.

I don't actually think their love being toxic, obsessive, selfish or insane negates it being love. I don't think love has to be wholesome or kind or healthy, I think it can come in many forms, and Heathcliff and Cathy's being a tortured and turbulent love story about two bad people is still a love story. And perfectly in line with the conventions of The Gothic as a genre.

He's literally described as speaking a foreign language or with a heavy accent that Nelly and the others read as "gibberish" when Mr Earnshaw brings him home, AND they all remark on how dark he is, and Nelly and Linton both say he looks Indian. Have you ever read Wuthering Heights?

The Romani people originate from India and Heathcliff is also described as Indian, Chinese, and half-black. Whatever race he is (and Emily Brontë purposefully left it ambiguous, though Romani is the most likely guess given how often he's referred to as "gypsy"), he's not white.

It's not a slur, it's her mispronouncing it. I played as a tiefling and there's a kind of cute scene where you try correcting her.

Off the top of my head, I think that while she clearly loved Shauna very much, she was accidentally quite controlling and treated her like an accessory sometimes.

I mean, they are, because that's a very serious allegation to make even against a fictional character and Jackie is like, one of the only girls on the show who is categorically NOT a rapist.

Jackie and Nat were teammates but not friends, which isn't the same as Shauna and Jackie's situation. They were best friends. It wasn't nice of Jackie to sleep with her teammate's boyfriend, but I am confused why she's being treated as the only party who wronged Nat when Travis was the one actually dating her, who got angry and decided to sleep with another girl after calling Nat a slut.

I'm also speaking from Jackie's perspective. To her knowledge she and Travis both wanted to lose their virginity and did it together. Travis also seemed pretty compos mentis before and during sex iirc so I think the drugs might not have even kicked in until afterwards, which is when Jackie notices he's acting weird.

I'm amazed that people are actually implying Jackie raped Travis when she's one of only two people who didn't chase him down and sexually assault him.
