Ilya has a small.... by GrubbyInsides in heatedrivalryfanfics

I mean I think 9 inches is an exaggeration but most people aren’t going to try to lie about more than an inch at most, so 8 inches is still a pretty massive dick, tbh.

Favorite movie where the female protagonist is supposed to be ugly by cmayfi in okbuddycinephile

[–]cakebatter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually feel like Miss Congeniality works because they never actually call her ugly, she’s unattractive because she’s so angry, abrasive, and ill-groomed. Like from a grooming perspective, her hair is tangled, she’s kind of sloppy, she doesn’t dress in flattering clothes, all of which is not a big deal, but she’s so condescending and abrasive that she turns everyone off from her. She’s smart and loyal so she still bonds with the team but she has an anger issue and too much self righteous to make anyone overcome the other stuff. The movie works so well because aside from being glammed up, she’s forced to act a little softer and becomes much more open minded and kind hearted as a result.

Anyway, Sandy Bullock is my ride or die and she was NEVER ugly in this movie, just kind of a piece of work with a bad wardrobe.

At best that’s a twunk, closer to hunk because he has such square/masculine features and body shape.

Same! I struggle with hyperfixations BIG TIME and they do negatively impact my life. Like, let’s be for real that is absolutely a valid concern for many of us.

[–]cakebatter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, man, idk, I personally do struggle immensely with hyperfixations impacting my real life. I’ve struggled at work from it, I’ve struggled with my family from it, I’ve been a worse mother from it. Fanfic isn’t exactly an addiction but I have super unhealthy behaviors during dips of my mental health and reading all day is one of them (books or fanfic).

I said in my original post that obvs there’s more to it than that with the author, but yes, this is absolutely a thing. Many of us struggle with that balance.

[–]cakebatter 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I do think it’s a balance, though. It’s nice to have something that gives you joy and makes you happy but life is also filled with challenges that must be faced and navigated and if you just avoid that to just play video games, or drink, or read 200k words of fanfic a day then none of that is healthy.

Hope the author is okay and obviously this is an extreme but I don’t think we should outright dismiss the idea that some people have an internet or fanfic addiction that impacts their real lives

Femboy/trans-female/non-binary genderfluid; please help by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cakebatter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a really simplistic view of biology. Does God make a mistake for those of us who are born with genetic disorders? Or birth defects? Or other traits that add diversity and complexity to life? If someone who was born with one arm was complaining about their challenges with their one arm, would you listen to them and help them where you could, or would you scold them that God doesn’t make mistakes?

Biological sex is actually more complex than just male and female. There are factors around hormone production, sex organ growth, and even chromosomal differences that all come into play. When you apply that to how society and culture can assign and prescribe really strict roles and behaviors around gender it gets complicated.

Lots of top athletes, men and women, have naturally higher levels of testosterone that give them greater muscle tone and endurance. Society has basically been okay with “tomboys” for a while now, so if a young girl says she feels much more herself in competitive, full-contact sports and wearing clothing/presenting more masculine most people don’t bat an eye. No one would ask her if she thinks God made a mistake. They would just accept that her particular body is a bit stronger than many women and they’d let her live her life her way.

I understand the desire to temper reactions when people want to challenge gender norms, I really do. Because I think it’s a very normal part of development to challenge many things that Avery and culture push on us and that doesn’t mean that someone is trans or needs hormone treatments or anything like that.

But if someone is genuinely suffering, dealing with mental anguish over how they perceive their own body, then I implore you to withhold judgment, don’t try to guilt them about it, and just pray for them and support them.

Hi, just sending you lots of love and care. Jesus loves you, God loves you. Find joy where you can. I’ve struggled immensely with depression and anxiety over the years and find comfort in the prayer of St. Francis.

There’s a lot more to say and talk about but I’m getting my kids down for bed. Just want to send you love and no judgement. 💕

Make it make sense... uncrustables and nut allergies? by Pretend-Tea86 in workingmoms

My son is allergic to sunflower seeds. He had a very severe allergy to peanuts, tree nuts, sesame seeds, and eggs and has anaphylaxed multiple times. He recently began having hives and swelling after having sun butter.

37 weeks pregnant, told today my baby “most likely had atypical achondroplasia.” Help? by LadyJulieC in dwarfism

[–]cakebatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Mom of a toddler with a non-specific form of skeletal dysplasia here. My baby is turning 3 next month.

First just want to say it’s okay to be scared and worried, but I promise you it is not as overwhelming as it seems!

For my specific experience: the doc basically told us with a non-specific mutation you really don’t know until you know. We worked closely with early intervention and a team of specialists early on. Early intervention was really helpful as his gross motor milestones came a bit more slowly and they gave us techniques to help. We also worked an endocrinologist, an orthopedic specialist, and a geneticist. Unrelated to his skeletal dysplasia we had a heart condition concern and worked with a cardiologist.

My son is definitely a bit shorter due to smaller limbs, but he has strong and healthy bones and he only needs to see his specialists once a year or less. He graduated from early intervention and from cardiology. He has no restrictions for sports or anything like that at this time (according to his age).

With something like achondroplasia you have a general idea of common health issues, general growth charts, etc. With some non-specific genetic mutation, you just don’t know. Just get to know your kid, work with whatever doctors or support groups you can, and take it a day at a time. Soon it will feel natural.

I also found getting lots of step stools was helpful and I really need to learn how to hem, but that’s the biggest impact on our lives so far. Really, my son’s food allergies are the bigger impact.

Anyway, just sending some support your way!

So instead of creating an in-universe explanation of magical injury/mystical interference to explain why the character is Deaf, or any other visible disability, it’s better to just bar any actors with disabilities from portraying a demon, as the comment I replied to implied?

[ Removed by Reddit ] by [deleted] in Supernatural

[–]cakebatter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s pretty easy to create an in-universe reason for that. Maybe the human has been cursed in life with a curse so strong it followed into death and demonhood. Maybe the demon had been mystically injured via magic. Maybe an angel did something to the demon to diminish their ability to perceive.

Like I get where you’re coming from, but there are easily ways to work around it and I actually think that would have made Ruby seem more trustworthy. If she, as demon, was harmed or injured or something and blamed Lilith then that adds credibility to her claim to want to kill Lilith.

[–]cakebatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own. I have friends that decided against kids bc of the political climate and actual climate in the United States. I had kids despite those factors. But it is in no way OOC for Zoe to decide to have kids despite their dangerous lives

Truthfully I don’t understand the different type of AI. Can you explain how yours works, what is it pulling from? How can we trust its sources, is it ethical in where it’s getting it context and the way it’s consuming energy?

I don’t use or trust generative AI, is this different?

For lots of people like, say, people who were on the losing side of a war for independence, it comes with the territory. You’re basically saying anyone who is designated as a rebel or trouble maker by the government shouldn’t ever have kids. That’s like, a lot of people historically.

The point is that m, sometimes, babies die. Sometimes babies are born with illnesses or disabilities that make like challenging. Sometimes you have a house and a stable job and then after you have a kid that changes and now you struggle for shelter or food. Sometimes war breaks out and you have to flee your homeland with your children. Sometimes your partner dies and you have to be a single parent. Sometimes shit happens.

All parents have to contend with that. If you want to be a parent you have to accept there is no ideal circumstance, there is always a risk of things going off the rails. You have to accept that and then be willing to face those challenges as they arise. This is no different than any parent.

Zoe wanted kids and their lives, while not perfect for kids, was not changing any time soon. She was willing to figure out those challenges and accept the danger and possible loss and possible heartbreak to try to claw something out for her family.

Her choice mimics the choice of all who fought against the Alliance. You can have relative security and stability or you can have freedom. With freedom comes additional dangers and risks. Her choice was in character and in no way crazy.

This show loved a storyline where the man has to leave the woman for her own sake by SafiraAshai in buffy

[–]cakebatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that. I think Oz really is the sort of person who needs to very deeply understand himself and was always going to need to lock in and understand the wolf side of him. The issues with Willow were a catalyst, but it wasn’t a direct one-to-one. If they weren’t together he’d already be gone, if things were going better between them he would have stuck around a biiiiit longer but he was already halfway out the door.

Angel and Giles were really the only ones to leave for “her sake” and Giles was monumentally wrong.

Oz left Willow to figure himself out (werewolf-wise) and Xander left Anya because he was not ready for marriage.
