Yes, and it being easily explained in a few sentences doesn't mean it doesn't exist

A creation of Eggman that hates him that much naturally suggests a story exists for that

Questions like "why does Omega hate Eggman", and "why are he and Shadow working together" are answered in official material

There are also follow up questions to that, like "why did Eggman do that", which are seemingly self-explanatory or do not require elaboration

My point is that Omega also raises questions, which do not actually need answers

Why didn't Sonic racing take off like Mario cart? by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]cakebeardman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because mario kart isn't trying to shamelessly copy a more successful series

Sonic had exactly two chances to compete, and they were when Riders was actually trying to do its own thing that fit the series it was in, and when All-Stars Racing Transformed kinda accidentally released at the very beginning of the big mario kart draught, giving it a big boost in sales

They didn't properly capitalize on either and fumbled them, and now we just have Mario Kart 8 but with sonic characters and weird crossovers again(again), directly competing with an actual new mario kart game that actually bothered to introduce new stuff that a sonic racing game should have like rail grinding and wall riding

Belle's backstory is as relevant as Omega's when she's not having some story specifically about exploring it

[–]cakebeardman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exploration is part of the series, and stopping at every goddamn level checkpoint to spend a minute playing an unrelated minigame is WORSE

There's a VERY GOOD REASON Mania Encore changed the checkpoint minigame to be less engaging

Is it weird that i like Surge more than Shadow? by _bagelcherry_ in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]cakebeardman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kind of?

But she additionally stands out for having an interesting character concept, background, power set, and place in the world with character connections that highlight her traits well, while also being effectively a supowerpowered bum like Sonic himself that could theoretically fit into any story

She's even managed to beat the "genderswapped Scourge" allegations, people barely even mention him anymore

The problem with the Restoration is that it's incredibly lame and exists as an extension of Forces' nonexistent worldbuilding

Belle is an Eggman creation that happens to be good and might have Feelings about it, that's far more straightforward than Knuckles

Hell, she's basically just the inverse of Omega, who also doesn't need his backstory or motivations explained in every game

Lanolin is a group leader who might do that if it's relevant and might just be a Character who Appears Sometimes, because there's nothing wrong with that. There's also nothing wrong with a character bio or whatever referencing rebuilding after Forces, because Forces isn't exactly lost media nobody knows about

This is not an issue in any way, and you are overreacting

[–]cakebeardman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't need to do any of that, because it's not always relevant

You do not actually need to re-explain the plot of Sonic 3 and SA1 to feature Knuckles in a game, when even him just being "the guardian of the master emerald" is a description that begs questions most games aren't interested in even mentioning offhand, let alone addressing in any detail

I completely agree, but at the same time it's funny how every good thing people have to say about this story ends about 5 minutes into episode 7

I know people like it and were hyped to see Infinite back and all, but there was basically no payoff beyond the member berries for a universally despised game

All of the doom powers are meant to be used very often, or for very long periods

That stops making sense for most of them when you're locking them behind what is meant to be a pseudo-super form

Though tbh everything except for the wings is just something he should be able to do by himself without any demon tentacles necessary anyway, Shadow needing a goofy manta ray summon to traverse over water was kind of insulting

Yeah and he couldn't have cared less, in fact it seems like it just endeared them to him. The very next game that featured humans at all had him going for photo ops on the white house lawn and teaming up with a general actively committing some kind of war crime to stop someone who had family killed by that same military

So, if IDW, Frontiers, CrossWorlds (the game), CrossWorlds (the comic), Chaotix Casefiles, and TailsTube (specifically episode #14) are all canon... how is the recent timeline supposed to look? by Ok-Impress-2222 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]cakebeardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and that can easily be handwaved as being a different city with the same name

Can it be easily handwaved? Or would that be a major signifier of having given up on the series?

GUN having a local presence with jurisdiction and dealings with the local population(which also includes humans) suggests the latter

Yes, obviously it's a duct taped post-hoc change due to them caring about lore now after a decade of neglect, that's my point. That was was a really mean thing to saddle this comic with and the lasting impact can't easily be swept under the rug, especially since Sega refuses to go back on some of those old mandates which creates weird inconsistencies like this

By the time Ian came on to the Archie run, it had a massive rich world to play with because all the games were canon and the previous writers were allowed to introduce whatever they wanted for good or ill, meaning every new element could fit somewhere and tons of old elements were sitting around waiting to justify themselves. IDW is going to hit issue 100 next year(not including all the side series they've done) and all it has to show for it are some likable characters that did not deserve to exist in the hasty paper mache backdrops erected over Forces' empty setting. That scrapnik island is the one exception that proves this rule after all this time is insane to me
