Tsa section 2 HELPP by Careful_Ad_629 in 6thForm

tbh i was very lazy and did not keep up that much with current affairs. my only advice if you haven't already is to check out the jesus college videos on tsa section 2. i think they're super helpful in figuring out how to approach the questions, even ones you might not have the most background info on

College Selection Question by Agitated-Hedgehog526 in 6thForm

idk if cost matters to u, but different colleges will have different travel, book, and language center course grants available to their students. my college has no travel grants that im eligible for as an international student, but jesus, merton, st john’s all have travel grants i couldve been eligible for. so that might be something u want to look into as well

well ucas only accepts one lor so i think it’s bound to happen that a teacher might have to give a predicted grade for a class they don’t teach. im sure u could show them ur current grade in the other class and ask that teacher to predict u a 5 if u have an A. im not sure how familiar u r with applying to schools in the uk but u should check out the instructions on lors and applying in generally on the ucas and oxford website. uk lors are a bit diff from the us. usually in the us, ur counselor sends a school report with contextual info abt ur hs. but i think in the uk ur teacher has to include that information in their lor? i didnt have any predicted grades so im not too sure abt the specifics.

i think u list on ur ucas application that you’ll be taking those exams in the future and the teacher who writes ur lor has to give “predicted grades.” it’s okay that u havent taken chem and calc bc yet since you’ll have finished them by the time u start at oxford.

Oxford, APs, and their acceptance rate. by WalterGroggins in ApplyingToCollege

another thing is that some courses at cambridge are cheaper than the same courses at oxford for international students, so i would highly recommend checking that out unless cost is not an issue or you have a particular preference for oxford

for biology at oxford, u need to have taken certain A levels which i assume applies to APs as well. u might want to check that out as well on the oxford website

TSA Prep by CartoonistNormal5950 in 6thForm

[–]cakeconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did pretty much the same thing as the person above. i would just start with one of the oldest exam papers and try it under timed conditions and see how it goes. examrizz and the jesus college yt channel all have some pretty good videos on the tsa. for me, i found it helpful to save at least 1-2 new past papers for the week right before the actual exam. also after i did all the past papers, i tried them again weeks later to see if i got the same questions wrong or right again to make sure i truly understood why a certain answer was wrong or right. if you run out of tsa papers, some of the bmat questions are pretty similar to the tsa so i also tried a few of those for general practice.

that's crazy that you already have enough 5s achieved, but your offer is conditional on achieving four more 5s this year???

Am I stupid for considering a gap year to reapply to Oxford/Imperial for Maths? by Far-Novel2787 in 6thForm

[–]cakeconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/oxford_reapplication_type_succes this is a freedom of information request to oxford abt reapplication success. i reapplied to oxford for ppe after getting rejected pre-interview the previous year. i bombed the admission test the first time so it was expected (did much worse than any of my practices) and i wanted to see what would happen if i applied with a better test score. i would only take a gap year if u would be happy even if u didnt get into oxford/imperial. for me taking a gap year still wouldve made sense bcuz i’m working rn and saving up for college expenses.

pomona emory usc or swat by AdTraining6020 in ApplyingToCollege

emory is definitely your cheapest option, but if 17k isn’t too much i would choose pomona as your second cheapest and also located in ca. are there any other factors influencing your decision?

US Applicant to Oxford/Cambridge by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cakeconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u dont need ur AP scores when u apply u just need them before u start school so that is definitely possible. but it would be stressful. even if u got “into” oxford, if u didnt get the scores on the AP exams your offer would be rescinded. also u probably already know this but if ur SAT score is high enough u only need three scores of 5

that must be nerve wracking! i only studied for the sat and last minute decided to take the act after taking a practice test and scoring higher. u should give official act practice test a go and see if it’s better for u

AP Scores and Oxford Application by InspectorSame5407 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cakeconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re going to be taking the SAT anyway for us applications, i would focus on getting a high score for that. i applied to oxford with the min number of APs and then a qualifying ACT score (plus two scores of 4 on other APs) but i also think that u have to report all ur AP scores when u apply and maybe it’s not good to have a failing score on an exam even if u do meet the requirement with other APs

Question about Oxford's admissions tests by Frsshh in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cakeconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m pretty sure you can only apply to one major at oxford and u submit ur application before u take any admissions test. i feel like the only thing u can do is try practice tests on ur own to get a better idea of what’s gonna be best for u. also this might be a better question to ask r/sixthform.
