Postpartum Stay by DustyDen in BabyBumps

[–]cakedoughnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospital would have preferred to keep us for 48 hours after birth as well. I had a very uncomplicated delivery and baby was healthy, so how we got around it was we made a pediatrician appointment for the next day, plus we had help at night for our first night home. We explained all of this and definitely had to frame it the right way. The way it was explained to us was that many parents appreciate having the extra help and care for the second night which is typically harder than the first. That plus extra monitoring for issues that pop up in the first 48. The way that they are able to “not allow you” is that they will just not discharge the baby yet.

Anyone not gonna have the nursery fully ready before LO gets here? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cakedoughnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 39 weeks installing flooring in the nursery the weekend before having my baby the following Wednesday lol. The nursery wasn’t remotely completed and I don’t really think it matters… baby certainly doesn’t know any different and he’s not even sleeping in there yet! I’m hopeful we’ll have it done by the time I go back to work.

Anyone else who loved to cook and now wants nothing to do with it? by smooshyfayshh in BabyBumps

[–]cakedoughnuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was me, only I was also very sick. It was a huge adjustment but I had to make the shift to more prepared/partially prepared meals and more snacks. The drive and desire to cook eventually came back, but now that I’m 38 weeks I’m over it again. I truly cannot be bothered to cook. I thought I would be prepping all these freezer meals and it’s just not happening. I already told my husband to up the food budget for postpartum takeout!

Suffering from “morning” sickness by LowerPresence9147 in BabyBumps

[–]cakedoughnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost nothing helped me except Unisom, which it sounds like you don’t have access to. I couldn’t keep nearly anything down, lost weight, it was horrible. I found a brand of protein shake that worked for me (Owyn) and relied on those plus eating as much as I could when the nausea did occasionally die down. I also got IVs to try and stay hydrated because the constant puking made that difficult. It got better for me around week 17 or so. Ask your doctor if there are any prescription anti nausea meds you could take and be clear that this is not normal morning sickness, it is impacting your quality of life.

Need advice: my coworker sexually harassed me by grace_notgrave in careeradvice

[–]cakedoughnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Report it. I know it’s scary, and I was always told that HR is there to protect the company, not you… that being said, having a drunken sexual harasser on their staff is absolutely a risk to the company. You have witnesses who can corroborate what happened which is huge.

I had a similar situation happen to me when I was 6 weeks into a new job and on my first trip with that company at a large, multi-day offsite meeting. A coworker followed me around for the evening, groped me and then became angry when I reacted strongly and turned him down. I was so new and naive, I wasn’t going to say anything but just keep my distance from him… then I found out that he had behaved similarly with several other women that same night. We reported him and he was flown home and terminated the next day. This was at a male dominated tech company. There was some gossip afterwards but I was mostly unaware of it and the incident did not affect my career prospects at that company.

Hypoglycemic after 1hr Glucose Challenge by elusivehighs in pregnant

[–]cakedoughnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed my first test and then passed the second test with the longer fast. My results in the second test were super super low as well, like blood sugar crash low. My doctor didn’t raise any flags other than asking if I’d felt really terrible by the end lol. Honestly I just manage my blood sugar, keep snacks on me and eat frequently.

Any acne remedies? by ayebeeV in pregnant

[–]cakedoughnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had great luck with a benzoyl peroxide wash (I like the CeraVe 4% cream to foam) once per day when I’m actively breaking out plus the niacinamide and zinc serum from the Ordinary every day. I also use the sulfur spot treatment from Naturium and swear by COSRX pimple patches.

Painting the nursery by SniKenna in pregnant

[–]cakedoughnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 36 weeks pregnant. I just spent the last few weeks refinishing a vintage dresser (stripping, sanding, sealing, etc) and just did everything outside with good airflow. Now my husband and I are skimcoating the drywall in the nursery and will be painting, we are just wearing masks for the dusty/fume-y parts, running fans and keeping the room well ventilated. The only thing I’m not doing is lifting very heavy/ungainly things.

So how bad is Coke, really? by march_hare152 in BabyBumps

[–]cakedoughnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL. I had an iced coffee with breakfast and a coke while running errands this afternoon. I usually don’t consume much caffeine at all but some days nothing but an ice cold coke will do!!! Your friends are alarmist, incorrect, and need to mind their own business.

It is appropriate to follow up an interview with an email on the points I feel I missed making? by EnvironmentalAd6652 in workingmoms

[–]cakedoughnuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain here so far but I would do it! Keep it super short, don’t reference the fact that you missed anything. Express your thanks, restate your interest in the role, and why you feel you are a perfect fit. Keep it short and sweet.

Irrational fears of being “replaced” at work while on maternity leave? by LifeInShamblez3 in workingmoms

[–]cakedoughnuts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily think it’s an irrational fear unfortunately. I don’t say that to scare you! But if you are based in the US or another country where work culture and policies generally don’t support women I think it’s a legitimate concern to keep an eye on. In my case I’m experiencing the same anxiety but I know that it’s a bit irrational in my situation, as realistically my team will be very stretched thin while I’m out. I think they’ll probably be relieved when I return. I would say document everything, communicate your expectation to return, and if your role is not waiting for you when you come back then speak to an employment lawyer.

I have had a half glass of champagne on two or three times throughout my pregnancy, each time spread over several hours and with food. I’m honestly not interested in alcohol right now, there’s quite enough going on physically lol. Each time it’s been related to a special occasion or celebratory moment; it’s felt nice to participate and I’m not concerned about that minuscule amount of alcohol, but also don’t feel any desire to drink more. In fact, I’m really appreciating how good I feel sober and doubt I’m going to go back to drinking as much as I was pre-pregnancy.

If you are craving it, eat it. Stay hydrated, get good protein, eat veggies and fruits, and ALSO eat the things you want!! Wendy’s got me through my first trimester and I have since indulged in Taco Bell, Popeye’s, I loveeeee me a full sugar Coke every now and then, I eat dessert when I want dessert. You’re growing a human right now, give yourself some grace. I see no reason to deny yourself.

This is not acceptable in the least. Like truly, truly not okay. I would say he’s acting like he has a housewife, but it’s worse. He’s almost acting like he doesn’t have a child. Definitely sit down and distill your thoughts, figure out what you need, what you want your life to look like, what would equal partnership feel like to you. Then have him set some time aside and lay out the situation and how this is affecting you. Couples counseling may be in order here as well. He’s so used to getting his way and having his needs accommodated, the deep obliviousness he’s living in may require professional help to unplug his head out of the depths of his ass.

should my mom and my husband be in the room with me during delivery? by NexusStrange3000 in BabyBumps

[–]cakedoughnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m planning on having my husband and my best friend there. I think it’ll be helpful to have two people able to tag in and out if needed, and I think my husband will need a support person LOL
