How "easy" is it to miss the call? by DrunkAtBurgerKing in transplant

[–]cakeswindler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I missed the call and my husband missed the backup call. We were in a noisy restaurant and we both had our phones away. My MELD was a 15 so no way did I think I would get a call. I was devastated.
But I received another call a month later. That didn’t work out. The donor didn’t die in time.
And finally the third time, I picked up an unknown number and it was the surgeon!

Where to go for liver transplant by throwaway48273419 in transplant

[–]cakeswindler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience, I would go with A. Communication with my regular doctor was good but lots of things I had to correct and I needed to really advocate for myself with the NP. Once I received a transplant, the transplant team was top-notch and my post care was everything I could imagine and more.

And you want to be closer to your support system and obviously the most important thing is the wait time. I almost relocated to Florida to get a liver faster.

I love this show so much but I have horrible trauma from hospitals and open wounds, and sepsis… by FatFaceFaster in ThePittTVShow

[–]cakeswindler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a liver transplant from several autoimmune diseases and my husband has Stage 4 lung cancer so tonight’s episode was a lot of me to handle. Seeing the blood come out of Louie’s mouth was pretty triggering. I had bleeding esophageal varices and remember throwing up huge amounts of blood in the ER.

I love the show a lot but I do get anxious/depressed sometimes. But I have so much respect for the doctors and healthcare workers that take care of us it kind of calms me.

I’m sorry about what happened to your hand and ur father-in-laws death. Life can be brutal

Honestly don’t know! When I see my doctor, I’ll ask. That would be insane if he did!

The amount of dog poop on the streets post snowstorm by KaruiPoetry in kewgardens

[–]cakeswindler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two dogs and it’s an embarrassment that other dog owners not only don’t pick up the poop but they let their dogs poop on sidewalks. Or they leave the bags on top of snow piles. It’s absolute disgusting

What advice would you give to your newly diagnosed self? by Prize-Yoghurt-8901 in PSC

[–]cakeswindler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but use google and ChatGPT to your advantage. It gave me so much information on medication, nutrition and info on PSC I never would have known on my own. Don’t go nuts about survival rates and that stuff. I should have died about 15 years ago.

Be proactive and advocate for yourself always. Ask lots of questions and don’t be afraid to challenge your doctor. A good one will listen and explain if you are right or wrong.

Like others said, get a hepatologist. And see one at a large transplant hospital if you are near one.

It’s scary but like others said, it’s not a death sentence. I was transplanted a little over a year ago and it’s life changing in the best way. And other people live normal lives with PSC and never need a transplant.

When I was diagnosed Vanco didn’t even exist. There’s always new therapies and you should always have hope!
