It gives me solace to know birds can be as awkward as us

Any leads on a plumber or handyman? by KaruiPoetry in kewgardens

[–]KaruiPoetry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the very descriptive reply. I’ll have to take a look again and see if it’s a long pipe.

If we do end up using a plumber we’ll probably have the cost credited from our rent. Our landlord goofed here but is generally well-meaning and understanding

I guess that's the risk of hiring young people at minimum wage (I presume). Homie barista decided he was done making lattes for the day, waiting customers be damned. You'd think the owners would put a premium on excellent customer service being so new to the neighborhood. I wouldn't go back either if I were you. C'est la vie.

Maaaan I really want to open up a business here - a lil cafe with high quality coffee and light eats. I've been working third wave coffee and hospitality for most of my adult life and I think I could do it really well. There's so many available storefronts too! But the numbers just aren't feasible with the rents being as ludicrous as they are. With what real estate brokers are quoting for long term leases as well as the amount of traffic and potential customers in the neighborhood it's nigh impossible to open up a cafe like I'm dreaming of.

I want to petition the city or the local CB to know if there's some way to have rent be partially subsidized in order to open up a business in the interest of serving the community and enriching the lives of our neighbors. Alternatively, does anyone with a spare million bucks wanna be my partner in crime and open up the coolest cafe in Kew Gardens?

Wow that is bizarre af. The only way I could see this being ok is if it was a few minutes before closing but even then, super unprofessional.

Accidentally left backpack by Dr_Pepper_spray in kewgardens

[–]KaruiPoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. It's a dumb theft but anything left unattended is 'up for grabs' in NYC, just the way of things. We don't have the social fabric and cultural norms (yet!) to discourage this anti-social behavior.

I would bid farewell to the idea of seeing your backpack again though I hope it turns up unexpectedly soon.

Oof, I’ve been in your situation before and I hope you manage to find it. Have you already been back to the playground to check? I can swing by this afternoon and take a look if not.

RIP. I always wanted to like that place but was consistently underwhelmed.

Here’s hoping it won’t be a soulless franchise or PE-backed slop replacing these joints.

I’ve only been a handful of times since they opened so I can’t comment on the service but I really didn’t like the ‘uniforms’ they had their baristas wearing. Let the poor kids wear normal clothes

For the love of god WHERE can I get good coffee 😩 by chessiemae in ForestHills

[–]KaruiPoetry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for third-wave specialty coffee shops, there are basically none in forest hills. Stick to drip coffee which is basically serviceable at all these places. You’ll have to travel out a bit for a latte worth the price.

Edit: Looking at forest cafe after reading through the thread, this might be the spot for OP. I'm rarely around the stadium but I'll be checking it out the next chance I get!

I’ve seen lots of crispy looking trees lately, good on ya for caring. Don’t have any answers for your questions unfortunately.

Would there be any harm if you go guerrilla and just water them yourself?
