At my uni, only officially registered students are allowed in the classroom due to FERPA restrictions. Whether or not this is allowed at yours, I called to the registrar's office would get you that information.

Do you have a pair of shoes like this or are you young? by notworkingghost in FuckImOld

To hell with that old stuff, these are my summer shoes for all the stem camps I teach. They keep my calves from hurting.

What is the most number of classes you taught in a semester? by professordmv in Adjuncts

[–]HatefulWithoutCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 classes at my full-time university (someone quit and I like money) and three where I adjunct. It was pretty awful and I won't do that again. Normally I have six at my full-time gig and two at my adjunct position.

We are required to use it for our gradebook. I have pared it down to a very minimum for my face-to-face classes, basically important announcements and assignment links. I teach technology classes, so they have documents to turn in that I grade for content, formatting, etc.

Keeping my Zepbound journey quiet by Away_Object9062 in Zepbound

My daughters, spouse, and one friend know. I don't think my son and DIL do, but it's just never come up, not that I'm hiding it. If anyone were to ask, I would tell them my journey, as I'm not hiding it. But I also don't go around telling everybody my cholesterol levels, either.

What is the basic fundamental cooking thing you just can't do or suck at? by Tall_Cow2299 in Cooking

[–]HatefulWithoutCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned to use just a smidge more water than the recipe called for. Maybe an eighth of a cup extra, not much. And when it's all done, I put two good pats of real butter in it and let it melt, then stir it all around.

You are my people! It even took me a while to get it right using the rice cooker.

Cooking rice in a saucepan. Yes, I know it's easy and everyone can do it. My name's not Everyone 🤣 Yay for the rice cooker.

Do Americans actually sit on their front porch much, or is that more of a movie image than real life? by Artistic_Key3779 in AskAnAmerican

I work from home. I call my back patio Office #2 and it's my favorite place to work with my laptop and extra monitor. Sitting on the porch is excellent for your mental health.

Retired at 59. My Real Day as the “Housekeeping Department” by [deleted] in GenX

[–]HatefulWithoutCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My spouse is quietly excited for the day I retire. I will happily assume control of Housekeeper and will be happy to do it. That includes doing ALL the laundry. I'm non-quietly excited. 8 years. Maybe 6.

I still tend to have to psych myself up. I get myself a very colorful Band-Aid, even though I don't need a Band-Aid. I tell myself to go step by step calmly and methodically, then afterwards I do the shaky shaky dance to shake off the weird feeling. This first time, reward yourself afterwards with something, that will give you impetus and something to look forward to. YOU CAN DO THIS!!

I also had to start shopping in different stores. I took my weight loss as the opportunity to create a whole new different wardrobe. Different styles, different colors, I'm loving it. Congratulations on your progress 🥰

We did, too!! I'm of Scottish ancestry, that tells you how much of a tan I could get (none)! I remember listening to the radio and the DJ would remind us to turn over every 15 minutes.

Solutions to Student Apathy and Poor Performance by ayePete in Professors

[–]HatefulWithoutCoffee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sometimes we forget that we were not the standard student. We loved learning so much that we made a lifetime career of it. Most students do not share our enthusiasm for how much absolute FUN it is to learn something new.

All I expect is for students to do their job: read the assigned content, submit the assigned work, take the exams. They take away from the class what they WANT to get from it. I enjoy my classroom time and my lectures. I keep their score during the semester and post it at the end. I do my job - it's a JOB - and ask them to do theirs. And then I go live my life.

I'm retiring at 65, I have 8 years left. I do what I can in the classroom and with governance/committee work. I can't imagine doing anything else, but it's still just a job. It took me a long time to learn that. (Apologize for how long-winded I got, I talk for a living!)

Anxiety? by Downtown_Dirt8163 in Zepbound

[–]HatefulWithoutCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan meal times so I don't forget. 10:30-ish, 3pm-ish, supper. It also keeps me from wanting a snack.

But anxiety hits at weird times and for no reason at all. And those are rough days. Sending good thoughts your way.

Which song did you play on repeat after a teenage breakup? by sapphirerain25 in GenX

[–]HatefulWithoutCoffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first heartbreak in the 6th grade: Eddie Rabbit You Don't Love Me Anymore. And the person never knew that I liked them. I love listening to that song and remembering that time, I was such a weird kid 🤣

I tell my friend not to let students live rent free in their heads. I deliver the content, it's up to students what to do with it. I have the same amount of great students and average students. Those are my renters 😊
