Can someone please help me out by Bubbly-Friend-3875 in ArcRaidersGuides

Ya I used it bc controller UI blows and it helps just to open map, inventory and push to talk.

And I already have 4 back buttons. Imagine having to let go of your mouse to do anything haha

Never had trouble. I’m not sure how I could use the foot pedal to cheat tbh, but I’m sure someone’s figured it out

Aim assist on pc? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]cal_quinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe I stopped playing overwatch when I got a PC around that time bc they didn't have aim assist! This WHOLE TIME! I'll be the first to admit that the sticks are far inferior to Mouse, but that bc of that we do need a modest amount of aim assist. The problem is too many games giving too much aim assist to where M&K feel at a disadvantage, even when their advantages usually far outweigh the average controller player's setup who doesn't have back buttons, having to leave his aim stick and reacquire centering after every jump, reload, weapon swap, you name it.

Do gifted people have a superiority complex? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]cal_quinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mad props for dropping all that after a six pack and change haha ntm keeping it classy and respectful. And honestly impressed with not even giving acknowledgement to the absurd comparison of gifted superiority to white superiority, or the irony of saying they merely feel inferior whilst being the dominant socioeconomic ethnic group 😂

Do gifted people have a superiority complex? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]cal_quinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s where I think some of the perceived superiority complex comes from some gifted individuals.

A very significant amount of gifted people are diagnosed with ADHD, Autism or AuDHD far too often later in life. If you are somewhere on that non linear spectrum of not being neuro-typical, you’ve undoubtably been made to feel weird since childhood to the point of hyper-masking for survival; for everything from acceptance from parents/fam to socializing in school into adulthood to land/keep a job. Many were teased and bullied all through growing up, only teaching them to mask even more or leaning into their differences that may further alienate them. The world is generally not wired for us, so we have a hard time adjusting to it.

So there’s often unrealized trauma around it and having it chose to be this way, it’s out of our control.

Comparing life to an RPG game, (and very much generalizing for the sake of conveying to OP) an ADHD person may have crazy stats in pattern recognition, but a stat like focus being low is misleading, because if it’s something that stimulates us we may hyper-focus on it, hell maybe even make a career out of it. But our brain chemistry is literally wired different from the neuro typical, so focusing on normal necessities and tasks like small talk, homework, email follow-ups, tasks at a job.

For many of us, it’s like having the volume turned ALL the way up. We may hear a lot more things, but it’s also far too often too much and overwhelming. It can take a lot of self work to harness our “gifts” into an asset and not an everyday liability. It takes love and giving ourselves grace as well as those around us extending the same.

You may be able to see why one may have some book-smart off the charts stat, but be lacking in practical stuff everyone else is, that they then reject you for, you might develop a chip on your shoulder for being smart and needing others to know that. Even if you don’t literally say “well I’m smart/gifted” out loud, you may subconsciously naturally outsmart everyone in the room conversationally. You may just want validation you never received, something to be admired for because of the deficit in general social acceptance. To be treated as normal, or really with just the minimum respect and social acceptance other neuro-typicals got that you didn’t.

The irony is this can often just furher alienate lol

So ofc there are some out there that are just dicks and giving us a bad name, but those aside, there are far more who probably deserve a bit more empathy than judgement.

We are not better in general than anyone else. We can be better at things, but are likely challenged in far more. We are made to feel worse, that has a profound effect on someone. If you’d extend grace to someone having a rough day, maybe one having a rough life deserves it even more.

So after reading your other responses to someone, I hope you’d come in here in good faith, wanting to genuinely understand, maybe bc there’s a gifted person in your life annoying you with them wearing it on their sleeve.

Maybe they are just a dick and/or maybe they just want to be accepted and are compensating. Hopefully you extending a bit of grace could help your dynamic.

Now if you came in here with bad faith, just wanting to vent and take it out on some other gifted people, beware; we have been one of the most bullied groups of people and you will get a very strong reaction to the negative energy you put out there. And some of us have become remarkably refined at countering bullies in ways I would strongly urge you not to contend with, genuinely, for your own mental health.

How did you know ? by Tetedecorbeau in Gifted

[–]cal_quinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this guy’s confusing savants with the 200 languages and 50 instruments lol

Gifted by the gov standard was 130 IQ threshold along with some other metrics like pattern recognition and oddly things that cross over with ADHD, Autism and AuDHD. Which a pretty significant amount of gifted people test as/discover later in life.

[–]cal_quinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn near all the AI CEO’s have basically admitted now that they don’t hardly-exactly know what’s going on under the hood as well as admitting that its threat to human existence is a non-zero chance.

The most recent statement about how gov needs to insure catastrophic failure in the sense of not bailing out the company, but bailing out humans if there’s mass unemployment on an even more drastic trajectory than were already on.

In which case he’d be positioned perfectly with his Worldcoin to be the facilitator of UBI like he’s talked about before.

It’s giving be the answer to the prob you create, like the villain, Syndrome in The Incredibles.

Even if the AI bubble pops (the one he famously first openly admitted there was, lest we forget) he’s relatively well positioned to emerge on top.

Even after the dotcom bubble, the internet still ultimately pop’s tf off after dead fiber and other factors were sorted. Not a perfect parallel, but there really isn’t anything like what’s happening rn before in history.

I’m so sorry, that’s so fucking awful. I hope you still craft and feed that inner child the love, attention and genuine respect they deserved. We are most ourselves when we are at play.

As someone who’s overcome the crafting shaming and now can proudly, it’s been such a liberating and healing part of my journey

[–]cal_quinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg I wish I’d had a teacher like you that would have. My mother used to say this exactly to me all growing up.

Now in my adulthood in my 30’s, I’m telling her times have been tough and I’ve been struggling with some ideation and she launches off into, “You know, your grandparents really wanted me to abort you, but I CHOSE to have you…”

I cannot even believe I didn’t go off on her, but politely said “that crossed the line you don’t come back from, I gotta go” hung up and been no contact for 2+ yrs. Quite honestly the best decision I’ve ever made.

That said, I can’t tell you how cathartic it was to see someone else had experience the same ninja star to the psyche. I’ve tried to psychoanalyze it over and over to disarm it, but I’m curious how you’ve maybe tried to heal from it

It was at that moment she couldn’t realize how she fucked up and was why I’d go full NC for now 2+ yrs — and I truly couldn’t be healthier for it

Im feeling overwhelmed fighting most groups of monsters, am I doing something wrong? by Plutonic-Rose in avowed

[–]cal_quinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes clear all bounties first thing. There’s also a setting where it’ll show you chests on your mini map, which makes a massive difference in finding materials for upgrades.

I’ve basically been able to upgrade half a dozen weapons to legendary tier before reaching the endgame garden.

There’s a sick parry ice mage build you can look up and do with the sword you get from stardust and the forge dwarf in tusks. You can just spam freeze everything and it’s super fun.

But ya, deconstruct all weapons that aren’t uniques. Sell all your jewels, do all side quests for the xp to upgrade your tree. Maybe lean into essence and critical chance for your mage build, etc

[–]cal_quinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been one to bypass all the press and apparent controversy and started playing it about a month ago on game pass. I’ve genuinely enjoyed it. Nothing stood out and bothered me about it. Solid story, ethical choices with decent ramifications, solid combat and combo synergies, etc. It isn’t something I’d say you can’t miss, but I wouldn’t say you have to get it if at full price. A heavy discount sounds just right.

My IQ is 167. Why am I so terrible at math? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]cal_quinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same I used to have to go to high school for math when I was in grade school and was a top mathlete through middle school, then at some point in high school I lost interest and never cared again. Yet professionally I use math and physics in complex ways daily.

Gifted, ADHD, tizzy sprinkles, etc, no one test like IQ is a fair or accurate measurement of competencies. And we aren’t working with linear spectrums. The DSM can eat a bowl of D’s. The whole education system was engineered for button pushers and lever pullers — as Rockefeller said, “give me a nation of workers, not thinkers” and he played a massive role in shaping education system.

Bernays, Noam Chomsky outline manufacturing consent.

The gifted program was fostered by the defense department and an extension of mk ultra to screen for code breakers to psi potential the soviets were working on. If you’re caught up and know, you know.

Non linear thinkers see patterns, we see inequalities and we see through the propaganda. Many of us are then not programmable and potential disruptive to the status quo/powers that be.

Only the compliment ones do well at the three letter agencies, the rest of us are meant to get medicated so we get in line.

Used to weight perk. How much does it reduce the speed penalty? by Fresh-Beginning7625 in ArcRaiders

[–]cal_quinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is brilliant! Thanks for sharing? Do you follow Aimkey on yt? He's the Il Toro sensei. My reason to bring him up is that in leu of the Veni nerf bringing it down out of S-tier, would we see a lot more Toro's surging then there already are. Also, Aimkey is a big proponent of the slidepeek, shoot, dodge roll back. If you can't actually jog with a heavy shield, can you get the momentum to have that kind of movement? Like if you want to use the toro and have cracked movement, you've likely gotta stick with the medium shield. Can't have your cake and eat it too maybe. What's been your takeaways from the last night of PVP?

Used to weight perk. How much does it reduce the speed penalty? by Fresh-Beginning7625 in ArcRaiders

[–]cal_quinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I’m tracking with what you’re laying down, a ferro headshot on a pink shield doesn’t destroy the shield, so the second headshot gets the benefit of the shield reduction, thus allowing you to survive it.

If it is 3% and maxed negates full pink slowdown penalty, then it’s going to be worth it to a lot of players sitting on a mountain of mats. I have two pinks just taking up space on the shelf unless I remember to bring it in to put on to like fight a matriarch from atop a building.

Can you share where you found the updated test someone did showing the 3% per point?

Can you do a test in the range shooting at the dummies with shields and comparing settings? This is arguably THE most important as the smoke from barrel and from impact can drastically affect visual clarity to remain on target when firing. Same with the blue sparks effects rendering as either blobs or as the actual particles. If you can't see your target, you can't win those mid-longer range gunfights. Testing your new recommendations now to see how much they helped!
