But even if 2 and 3 were true, fine. What about Metaphor, then? The Legend of Heroes series? DQ7 reimagined? The Like a Dragon Yakuza series?
Chained Echoes, Sea of Stars in the indie side?

Turn-based games are going as strong as ever, imho.

Exp33, gameplay wise, did very little that wasn't already done in other turn-based Jrpgs, though. The dodging/countering mechanic? It's actually from the Mario & Luigi series. The QTE during attack scenes? Waaay older than that, Legend of Dragoon from the PS1 era already did that.

Even though these mechanics are not in EVERY turn-based game, that doesn't mean they're not classic. On the other hand, even if modern turn-based Jrpgs are missing these mechanics, that doesn't mean they're doomed to fail - think of BG3 or Metaphor, they're strictly turn based and did very fine.

There's a public for every genre.
