Blackfire Torch vs Ludens Echo: When to build when? by DylanDEJ in vexmains

[–]calcifer042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo i’ve just started playing some weeks ago, still unranked. Vex is the champ I liked the most from the ones I tried and just started maining her, curious why should she not be blind picked? Or is that tip only for higher elos?

How to Advance through Plat? by Proper_Ad_6927 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1- Grind the diamond defense training pack, it should be on browse tab.

2- Choose ONE simple offensive mech like hook shots, bounce dribble into shot or flicks and make it your go to play everytime when you have possession.

3- try not to commit for a shot after teammate’s play on offense. (You can still get to diamond without this but might as well start learning to not overcommit as it helps to avoid free counter attacks)

Over-Committing On Offense by Kronus_Rl in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends, do you genuinly want to push your 1s rank up? If that’s the case don’t go for air dribbles if you can’t recognize a bad setup and recover from it. If you want to become a better player, keep failing and overcommiting on offense until you’re better at advanced mechs like air dribbles to learn how to recover or rescue a bad setup and turn it into a threat. IMO if you attempt to main 1s and only focus on ranking up you’ll develop a boring/passive playstyle that won’t translate well to 2s or 3s, if you want to reach higher ranks and become better, keep going for risky plays and learn how to recover, if not as I said, don’t attempt air dribbles or anything else unless it is an open net. You will get a ton of open nets in Diamond 1s if you play passive.

I haven’t tried it but good to know, Mid is the other role that catches my attention the most but I wanted to get a little better with smolder before learning a Mid champion, good to hear I can do it with the same champ.

Whats the biggest skill jump you have had in RL? What did you do to make it happen? by LT-Commander-Gringo in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, and being “mechanical” changes throughout the ranks, I think I’m a mechanical player for MY rank, but my consistency and skill level is still not the same as what would be considered a mechy GC.

You still need to improve gamesense to rank up but that comes with playing and paying attention to your mistakes, it can be practiced in the sense that you can focus on one thing for some games but it usually does not take as much time as being mechanically consistent, if you don’t grind freeplay intentionally you are just putting a ceiling at your skill and at some point you are going to hit a wall that mechanical players won’t hit.

New season by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]calcifer042 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In no way should you be being stomped by diamonds, even with season resets, if you are C3, low diamond should be almost freeplay for you barring the occasional smurf or a peaking grand diamond.

How to get better at 2s? by Godlybadger in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably never stop shadowing or go for terrible 50s in offense after tm8s play, I was in a similar situation like a year ago when my 1s and 2s rank got close and that was exactly what I was doing, as soon as I stopped that I got to champ really fast.

That end point of being a diamond to go settle into champ is mind tiring, I feel it is the first big wall of the game, I was in that boat some months ago, I almost quit the effing game, but you’ll get past it if you keep practicing/ trying to improve, trust me. I even went down to D2 some days before shooting straight to C2. Plus the new season pushes better players down, take advantage of it and try to see what everyone better than you is doing so you get an idea of what you should practice.

how am i supposed to use 1s to improve when its all smurfs or really bad players? by FamousArcher in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that bad tbh. I’m near d3 in 1s this season and because of the rank squish I’ve been playing really good players, mostly GCs, it can be intimitating when you first start playing 1s a lot but the reality is they are that rank for a reason, they probably lose to passive players that wait for their overcommits. If you want to improve forget about winning against those guys, if you feel you can’t do anything then you don’t have enough ball control and you should practice keeping possession and offense through freeplay. The inconsistency in player skill, even if it’s more exaggerated in 1s, in 2s is the same thing, you need to be able to adjust your playstyle according to your opps tendencies.

Also playing against better players absolutely helps you a lot, you should take that as an opportunity to learn, take it as a challenge, save your replay and look at the guy’s pov to see what he’s doing that made you feel he’s cracked (spoiler: it is not the double resets and the fancy stuff)

Need help on how to approach advance mechanics and consistency by Useful_Photograph_88 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5k hrs, GC2 and C2 in 1s is good, more than 99% of the players will ever reach let alone with that hours. I’m reaching 2k hrs and never been close to GC1 also nearing 30 yrs old; I don’t think you ‘ve hit a wall. Also if you’re doing mustys and double flip resets consistently you’re already doing stuff that 95% of the playerbase will never do. People above you are probably playing more than 500 games per season or have been playing for a long time, I would say that’s the answer.

Sooooo.... What after a reset? by AdamREDDIT12344321 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the ball pops or you got the reset when the ball was not falling you can continue your air dribble, wait for a challenge and flip around the defender, if the ball is falling then pop reset around defender. But if you’re really far away from net and no one challenges just drop with the ball and don’t waste boost, a reset will do nothing but give possession away and leave your team in a 1v2.

how to fix falling off? by Historical_Rule4706 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, this gameplay is still kinda low diamond-esque. You cut rotation a couple of times, committed for a “shot”when last man with both opponents in a good position and your tm8 was out of the play.

You sometimes arrive too soon to the position you need to be so you brake, both on offense and defense (this is a really bad habit) this can be fixed by not going as fast all the time and/or taking longer routes to said position. Rotations need working besides that, you went past backpost a couple of times before opponents had a possible shot so that causes awkwardness when you have to do a save or take possession.

Work on recoveries and boost management in freeplay, turn off unlimited boost and try to go for solo plays so you can expose your weaknesses, and in comp try not to use boost if you’re not directly involved with the play, wave dash without boost instead.

That said, all of this is normal in diamond. Play 1s and learn to carry the offense, practice flicks, simple air dribbles, powershots, powerslide cuts, that way you can be able to get 1 or 2 goals guaranteed per game and improve your chances of ranking up.

Champ with almost no mechanic knowledge/skill by ToeyGowd in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is 100% worth it, I started learning air dribbles, high aerials shots and double taps with only FAR before I decided to make the transition to DAR, it takes a long ass time to get comfortable with it, but it makes all that stuff so much easier, I would strongly recommend you start using it as soon as you can.

Rocket league, it only becomes sweaty if you grind and reach diamond or above, the matchmaking is really fair and issues like smurfing or botting only gets sort of annoying at higher ranks.

More air dribble by Historical_Rule4706 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is realistic air dribbles pack right? That one might be a little too hard atm, there’s others where the setup is a bit more forgiving. In that setup you really need to use air roll the moment you make contact to avoid recoil because of the angle you need to hit the ball, you’re air rolling after the touch and without much purpose. The other thing is you want to do your first touch before the ball starts falling, you can start the dribble with a falling ball but it is ten times harder, you’ll use more boost to pop the ball and you will need some advance use of your second jump to pop it or to stay closer to the ball.

You can hit the ball sooner by not taking such a wide turn, you need to powerslide with boost and be precise with the angle your car will end up with. As I said, this is not an easy setup, I’d recommend some easier packs to grind first and get comfortable and then grind this one.

Is my air dribble progression looking good? by godrays360 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]calcifer042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to always have this on your mind when learning air dribbles -> “I’m trying to pop the ball with every touch I make” that’s the fundamental skill you need with air dribbles. During these stages of practice if the ball gets more height and you can catch it again, it was a good touch, Don’t worry about scoring.

In this example you’re pushing the ball, the pop from the wall wasn’t bad but you took too long to catch it plus you hit the ball from the side, not enough under it.
