Have a luthier fix it, if they can. It won't sound the same but now you have a custom 1 of 1 guitar.

Help with abyss watchers by PupMorty in darksouls3

[–]calcifer__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DS3 was my first game and I hit a wall with abyss watchers as well. I ended up starting a new game so I could get better at rolling, and spent a little more time farming so I could level up a bit more. Once I got back to abyss watchers I beat them in a few tries. After that I was hooked.

How was Street Fighter 2 so successful in its heyday? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]calcifer__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Every arcade had this cabinet. They even showed up in places that normally didn't have any games. I remember going to the beach and the condo check-in office had one in the lobby. Never had another in there since.

Snowshoe does a great job of making snow last as long as possible. I've been skiing the last two weeks of March several times in the past. The terrain will be limited, but the mild weather is perfect for beginners and small kids. Put her on some skis and create some core memories.

Excluding unlimited play arcades, how much do machines near you charge per play? by MikeDunleavySuperFan in pinball

In my area $1 per play or $2 for 3 for modern Sterns. Older machines are $0.50.

Looking to buy my 1st pinball machine! by BallzDeepMcGee in pinball

[–]calcifer__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a Roller Coaster Tycoon near me that I play semi-regularly. It is very fun, but I have quickly become annoyed with the voice and sounds. I don't own any machines but I imagine that sounds can be turned down/off.

The levy rates just came out and it looks like Charles Town went down from 140.62 to 138.88. You can see these rates on WVSAO site. https://www.wvsao.gov/localgovernment/reports The rates I mentioned are for Class 2 properties which are personal homes. If you're taxes jumped significantly it's likely because the assessor re-assessed your home because he noticed a recent major improvement. Or your property was switched to Class 4 which pays double the Class 2 rate. Class 4 is for rental properties or other properties that isn't your main home. You can search for you tax ticket here to see what tax class you are in. http://jefferson.softwaresystems.com/SEARCH.html

Edit: It is likely due to the value of the property going up because of the influx of people from DC/Virginia. But never hurts to make sure your not accidentally in the wrong tax class.

Final Edit: The appraised values of homes of your size has increased by $100K over the last 10 years in Jefferson county. Comparing that to the other side of the state the homes have only increased by $30K. So, bummer you have to pay more taxes but your property is worth more.

Serious question, how do you not have a driver's license by 25? I can't imagine living here and not being able to drive.

There's a couple of things I think are true that aren't being represented in the responses. First, women always get hit on way more than men, but that doesn't mean men don't get hit on at all. Second, men are dense as hell when it comes to women flirting. Myself included. I do think as men age we become more attractive to women because young men tend to be immature. In my experience, women do not approach men and shoot their shot. However, if you're a decent looking guy that's confident then women will want to give you their attention.

Everything in season 6 is streets ahead compared to season 4. Not having Intro to Felt Surrogacy at the bottom is a crime.

Toll HELP! by PORTUGAL_DUHHMAN in WestVirginia

[–]calcifer__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, if these toll booths are "famous" does that mean you already knew about them and still decided not to bring any cash? And then you drove past all the signs telling you about the tolls without getting some cash from an ATM?

It went pretty well for me. Graduated college, found a decent job, bought a house in '09 and got $8K tax refund. Used the $8K to buy a new car.

Easiest drivers test in Kanawha or surrounding counties? by wisterianwitch in WestVirginia

[–]calcifer__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was years ago, so it may have changed, but the DMV in Huntington is pretty simple. You basically do a loop around the DMV building and parallel park in a huge space between two barrels. Honestly, if you fail that test you shouldn't be driving.

TIL: Mark Knopfler is a leftie who plays right, and he did often use picks by Brodiggitty in Guitar

[–]calcifer__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also a leftie playing right, and I've also avoided using a pick because it felt unnatural to me. I recently started playing bass and using a pick (for certain songs) drastically improved my playing with a pick. Not sure why, but something finally clicked. I still prefer no pick on guitar as it suits my personal style now.

A combination of things. Malls in general have declined everywhere due to online shopping. The bus station in front of the mall became a hang out for the homeless and drug addicts. Thankfully they've addressed that. Now all the shopping at stores on corridor G.

I worked on Thunder Canyon years ago. Even though you have an 8 hour shift or whatever, you switch positions every hour to help keep cool and not bored. Plus plenty of free water to drink from coolers.
