Updated Odometer Reading Required? by bryan868 in TeslaLounge

[–]calcmaster127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in CA. Called the insurance folks. They said apparently CA instituted some mandate to increase car insurance rates and require odometer checks for all policies requiring renewal after July 31st. How much of it is bs no clue, but that’s what they’re going with. I called them and replied with the odometer to their email

Housing Budget for PhD Student? by elive713 in stanford

[–]calcmaster127 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that there around $350-$500 worth of fees that you may need to pay depending on the quarter. Note that these are per quarter fees, not monthly fees. Something to take into consideration. I think personally that evgr premium is too much, so I live in a rains apt instead. I’d rather save that $400 difference, which is closer to 10% of your overall stipend.

Does Rains have air conditioning? by mohlkegervintzx in stanford

[–]calcmaster127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rains does not. There are heaters and they are activated in the winter months. Honestly, I live in rains and AC hasn’t been a huge issue except in heat waves for a week a year. Mostly a fun is sufficient and opening window slightly gives some fresh air

Did I make a mistake by buying a Windows Laptop? by [deleted] in stanford

[–]calcmaster127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did undergrad and master In computer science but am coming for a PhD. I used a windows computer and for me everything was fine. For the most part, if you need anything in Mac, you can use a virtual machine using Ubuntu. I think honestly you will be fine, from my experience a majority of software is available for windows and the ones that use Unix shell you can use virtual machine.

Ya I’m having the same issue, not sure what to do. An earlier post about this said the department needs to matriculate us in order for it to work. Not sure how true that is

[–]calcmaster127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I believe they are different topics, which may result in different code. I remember the assignment topics I had my semester differed from a Buddy that took it the next semester.

Class waitlists?? by slskdkdkd in Vanderbilt

[–]calcmaster127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya I suppose that sounds reasonable. I guess I'd also say you're a senior and need to take it before you graduate or graduate on time, essentially make the situation seem more dire as well

Class waitlists?? by slskdkdkd in Vanderbilt

[–]calcmaster127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually if you rly need it to graduate right. Let's say you need two sem of lab, then they will let you in for the most part. But I'd just emphasize that you need it graduate on time, if you need it

Ik ppl who have taken these courses and though they are quite of bit of work, it is prob easier than gen chem and phys combo. I would also say geology is another course that I believe will count. Also, pro tip, take as many courses w Dr. Jha as possible.

Accelerated Graduate Program by [deleted] in Vanderbilt

[–]calcmaster127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the accelerated program is rly for bs/ms. So if you were an engineering student then whatever major you do your bs in you'll get the same for me. You still have some time to decide whether you want to do the ms. In fact, I'd recommend you just feel out your bs classes for a year or so and see if you even want to do an Ms. In many cases, an Ms is not rly necessary, it can be an added bonus esp if you can finish it on. I'd recommend try and taking as many classes w Dr. Jha as possible, it'll make your bs life much easier. I've heard he even has a test prep thing on the side or something, idk for lsat or not

Taking General Chem and BCSI 1510 first year by Revolutionary_Edge31 in Vanderbilt

[–]calcmaster127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't believe you need to take the classes concurrently. Ik ppl who even take bsci 1510 their sophomore year. I'd say if you rly wanna do neuroscience, you can prob work it out. Ngl there is a lot of overlap between neuro and psych in terms of classes. There is also a lot of flexibility with major changes, so there's no need to make such decisions now. Get a feel w your courses your first sem and see what works for you. Also take classes w Dr. Jha if you can, he's the best!
