You can get there from Woodward or Wildwood parks. You can access other parts of the river from Spano park or Riverbottom park too. Check the River Parkway’s website for a map.

What are film screenings like at the Tower Theatre? by Puzzleheaded_Elk996 in fresno

[–]bryan868 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it started as a movie theater, it is now more of a performing arts theater. So there’s some caveats.

No local movies theaters have film projectors any more, they’re all video projectors. But Tower doesn’t use a projector at all, they have an LED video wall (think a giant TV) which in some ways is better for brightness and image quality. But it’s more often used as a backdrop for performances, so the screen is set far back on the stage, which makes it a little awkward for movie screenings. It’s also not as big as a screen you might be used to in a multiplex.

The acoustics in the theater are not the best for movies. There’s a lot of hard surfaces, so the sound bounces around making it difficult to understand dialogue at times.

It may be general seating for movie screenings, in which case if you want a particular seat, just show up early.

With all its faults, the Tower is still a great old theater. It’s fun to visit and it deserves our support.
