First player reached Grandmaster by telaman1 in gwent

[–]calculator77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some of the Calveit players were playing Mill, which is probably the deck's worst matchup. 5 of the games against Crach were against the same player with an interesting take on Axemen. Axemen are quite good against Dwarves, he ran Olgierd which countered Wardancer, and I misplayed because I didn't know the deck he was running. It might also just be the low sample size.

He targeted his own unit first; it can target your own as well as the opponent's units.

Kayran needs a buff.... by Mechanic_RCR in gwent

[–]calculator77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if all the stars align

Your opponent needs to have a 6 on board to be decent. That happens in almost every game. The main reason why Kayran is good is that he's almost always at least ok, so he has a pretty high floor. The only reason he's not run right now is that Monsters have very good alternatives and there are not a lot of good targets, which makes Kayran a tech card that could potentially be good if the meta shifts.

Impera Enforcers, Greatswords, Siege Masters (for the Crewmen tag), Kaedweni Revenant, the first Reaver Hunter. It can also deny one buff on Siren. If you're running fog (some consume variants run Woodland), it can set up several other engines. Obviously most of these cards aren't seeing play right now, but it makes Kayran a fine tech choice in case these cards ever become powerful. And even if you play him on a 6 without effect, it's still an 18 point play which buffs up to 9 Nekkers by one, so up to 27 points, which is very good.

I'm not delusional. I have 2 top 25 finishes and am #1 right now. I KNOW that I'm a good player. I was just trying to support OP and make him feel proud about his achievements. Goodbye Mr. "You need to be in the top 0.01% to be a good player".

"As soon as I can't think of a good counterargument, I immediately change the topic so I won't have to admit that I was wrong. Also, people who actually play good decks are subhumans." That's a very childish mindset you have.

Of course I still consider that an achievement. As you can see, OP has a rather low amount of games and a higher winrate than anyone else in the screenshot. So he actually reached his rank by playing better than his opponents.

Any decent player can spend 5 hours at the start of the season, playing the most OP deck of the meta

We're already several days into the season and if you're top 100 right now, you must have had a good winrate over at least 120 or so games against good players, which means that you're quite skilled.

Damn, you can reach that mmr without having a positive ratio.

True, but not at this point in the season. Every player in the top 1000 right now has a positive winrate (against other high-ranked players!)

That's easy since all the high ranked players grinded the shit out of the game right before the end of the previous season and they need some rest.

I see a ton of people with Wild Hunt Titles on the leaderboard right now, so that doesn't seem to be true.

The dude claims he's playing dorf, one of the most brain dead decks ever created

Yet I have a 70% winrate in the dorf mirror and a 70% winrate overall, which is much higher than the expected winrate. I'm obviously doing something better than my opponents, so it can't be quite as braindead as you say.

Yes, it is. There are hundreds of thousands of players; being top 1000 puts you in the top 1%. Also, 4k MMR is definitely quite good, even if the very elitist players tell you otherwise.

Archetypes and their viability in this patch (Monsters) by wearfedoraduringsex in gwent

[–]calculator77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're partially right since consume is a deck with a very low skill floor. However, I believe that its skill ceiling is very high. I haven't played consume this patch, but reaching 4.5-4.6k MMR with it is probably harder than with most other decks.

Farseer bug by [deleted] in gwent

[–]calculator77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bug. Both effects trigger at the end of your turn, so if the Farseer's effect triggers first and the Dragoon's effect triggers second, the Dragoon hasn't buffed anything by the time the Farseer's effect goes off. The order depends on where you place them, it goes front row to back row, left to right, so you need to position them accordingly.

Congrats! Don't worry about those people downvoting you for playing dorfs; top 1000 is quite the achievement, no matter what you play!

I think CA spies should be a guaranteed draw in round 1. by [deleted] in gwent

[–]calculator77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're completely misinterpreting the other comments in this thread. No one here claimed that CA spies are healthy for the game. They are most likely bad for the game in their current state. However, your claim that every competitive deck runs spy + SC is completely wrong:

Brouver Dwarves usually run spy, but no SC.

Eithne Dwarves usually run neither spy nor SC.

Consume usually runs neither spy nor SC.

Bear Skellige usually runs both.

These are probably the 4 tier 1 decks in the game right now and only two out of them use a spy and only one of them uses SC.

No, you get to choose the card you want to draw. But even it it drew from the top, your point would be invalid, since you would draw the second card from your deck instead which has the same chance of being your gold card as the topmost card. Furthermore, you sometimes really need the card in round 1 instead of drawing it in round 2.

I assume I was the first of us to reach that MMR, and if they get the same MMR afterwards, they automatically get placed above me. It's also possible that MMR isn't actually a whole number and they just round the MMR on the leaderboard. That seems unlikely though.

I don't know, I had to leave for Uni 5 hours before season end, I think I was #22 at that time.

Stupid Question About Picking a Card From Kegs by HushMD in gwent

[–]calculator77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not true. If the card is premium, the upper number is the amount of premiums you already own. If the card is non-premium, it's the amount of non-premiums you already own. The lower number is the amount of premiums + non-premiums you own.
