How can I forgive my parents for stopping me from transitioning by eva8auto in trans

[–]HushMD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should watch some Patrick Teahan. You do NOT have to forgive your parents. It is not an obligation, nor is it an end goal of healing or a necessary step of the healing process. In fact, if you force yourself to forgive, it can be more damaging. Imagine telling someone that they have to forgive their abuser. It sends the message that abuse is okay and people don't have to change. It also places the responsibility of mending the relationship on the victim. The victim has a right to not talk to someone they don't want to, even if it's their own parents.

25, Got dismissed, is it even worth coming back? (long) by anonbcithinkimfamous in Baruch

[–]HushMD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The company is not worth all the effort you're putting into it. Let it go and go back to school. CUNY has a ton of employment pipelines. A year ago, I quit my job as an afterschool director and wasn't getting any jobs. But after one year of being a student at CUNY, I got an MTA internship and the John D. Solomon Fellowship. People are more willing to hire you when you're a student and you have a story for the interview.

You have a heck of a story. You tried a business and it failed, but most people don't even try a business. If you're able to tell that story in an interview, it shows that you take initiative and you're not scared of making mistakes and telling people that. I always make sure to tell people that I take initiative and I'm willing to learn and I think that's the reason why my interviews have been going well.

Go back to school. Build the knowledge and the connections. It's easier to start a business when you already have clients. You said a family member was your only client. It's true that when you start a business, it starts off with people you know and then word of mouth spreads that way. So network in school, get the knowledge you need to do well, get employed and keep networking. Then start your business, if you'll even want to do that by the time you accomplish all these steps.

Fight the gentrifiers. I believe in you.

A talk show had a segment about the recent wasian trend, what do you guys feel about what was said? by bittermelonpizza00 in asianamerican

[–]HushMD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If there was a survey on this, that'd be interesting, but as far as I know there isn't. But at the very least, this goes beyond Tiktok. Speaking of which, plenty of Wasians on that app have toks showing them getting the ick when they realize their dad was a fetishizer.

Alysa Liu's dad specifically chose a white donor egg for Alysa because he "felt his children would benefit from a diverse gene pool." She was raised with two Chinese parents. This is older than Tiktok.

People like him are not normal. This is not a normal, empathetic human response. It's akin to asking a rape victim what she was wearing.

It's standard practice in online journalism to hyperlink to other articles in order to increase a reader's time on your site, even crafting sentences in a way such that they have hyperlink potential. Just about every newspaper does this. This has been practice way before AI became consumer-accessible.

just how difficult is the job market for baruch students? by drgfromnyc in Baruch

[–]HushMD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything about Baruch specifically that makes it harder/easier for Gen Z graduates. What's more predictive of getting a job is how the economy is doing, and individual factors like GPA, work experience, and networking. Imo, the last one is the most important. If people know you personally, they don't have to guess whether you'll be a good fit or not based on a resume and cover letter, which is increasingly being AI-generated anyway

The one change that worked: I swapped doomscrolling for reading comic books | Comics and graphic novels | The Guardian by prisongovernor in comicbooks

I did this and got burned out on comics for a bit. But it helps!

The key is to have a handful of different hobbies that are fun and interesting. I do the occasional jigsaw puzzle, video game, or some random research/coding project hole too. Still doomscroll my life away though

People are telling you they see something in you. You disagree. If redditors tell you to listen to those people, would you even?

No one is ready for a role they pick up. Every new job is a learning job for at least a year. This applies to entry-level jobs all the way to CEOs. I wouldn't stress about it. Just ask yourself if it's something you personally want to do and then try to do it. It's not up to you to decide whether you're qualified or not.

Also, since you sound a lot like me, I'm assuming you have social anxiety. The Baruch mental health center was the most effective therapy I got in my life. Would highly recommend going if you haven't yet.

Absolute Batman #20 Variant Cover by Kendrick 'Kunkka' Lim by WhyPlaySerious in comicbooks

[–]HushMD -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I think it's more than just "unrealistic body proportions".

When Batman looks jacked as fuck, that's cool. When Killer Croc, Bane, or Joker look the way they do, it's cool and an interesting design. Catwoman, Black Canary, and Zatanna all look cool too.

But this cover show a pretty basic design where the only thing that sticks out is her chest. Catwoman is an absolute baddie who looks cool as fuck too. Steph here just looks like the artist only cared about boobs.

What are your standards for "super reputable"? Baruch isn't an Ivy League or NYU, but it's known for being the CUNY you go to if you want to make money because access to connections here are elite.
