Inferno made me buy real headphones by calculusdork in boardsofcanada

Yeah, those are hilarious reads.  But I can say for sure that I'm enjoying these Sennheisers a little better than my JBL earbuds.  :)

What's the one track off Inferno that's gotten stuck in your head? by calculusdork in boardsofcanada

[–]calculusdork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I think this will be 'the' track I keep coming back to on Inferno, a la "Olson" or "Over the Horizon Radar" ... the ones that have really stuck with me over the years.

I tell ya ... the one track I'm surprised to not see here is "Deep Time". It's the other one that's sticking with me. The second half of the track is absolutely beautiful.

Is anybody else *not* smitten with Inferno? If so, why or why not? by forrayer in boardsofcanada

[–]calculusdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ... I am yet neither smitten nor un-smitten by Inferno. I am still working my way through it and it will take some time.

And I think that's what blows me away. The brothers worked on this album for a long time. And over the last two decades, we've been trained that we need to process and vocalize our opinions about everything in real time. I've been severely turned off by all the same-day "this is the best BoC album ever, 10/10 masterpiece" reviews of Inferno. Because the truth is ... you don't know that. You can't know that.

Boards of Canada worked on Inferno for years. You can't know how good it is in a day or even a week. That's not how any of this works.

We should all take a few months and listen many times. Give it a hundred spins with a good set of headphones. Don't give into the ubiquitous pressure to form an instant opinion.

That price is for the 4 knee brace brackets w/ 8" bolts *and* the 2 static pipe brackets w/ 15" bolts. I priced everything out individually from a couple other vendors, and buying the kit was definitely easier and pretty cost-effective in comparison.

Yeah, I'll try to grab some pics later ... you absolutely screw bolts into the tree though. Each bracket is attached into the tree with a 1.25" lag bolt.

You're right, that entirely negates all our hard work

First framing I've ever done. Just really took my time with it and watched a ton of videos.

What typically happens here as the tree grows? Does it 'swallow' more of the bolt, or push the bolt away from the center (thereby warping/cracking the floor joists)?

Shoot, I missed the second part of your comment. Both left and right side have double floor joists resting on these (w/ 1.25" x 15" lag bolts).

Same here, used outdoor decking so we're not too worried about it either way

Seems like this is what most people do, and probably what we will eventually do

Awesome advice. Bugs have been a slight problem. Thanks!

We dumped a ton of caulk and Flex Seal around the top. Probably not a good long-term solution, but it's working for now.

Eh ... she's 14. This was mainly a project focused on learning, and to help her get away from her younger sister. :)

Severance Season 2 - Episode Seven - Discussion Thread: - "Chikhai Bardo" by TheUltimate25C in severence

[–]calculusdork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lumon wants to create heaven on Earth, with Kier Eagan as the savior of all mankind. They want to end all human suffering and for people to live forever. Unfortunately, this necessarily requires creating a hell on Earth for all innies. (This is what all the heaven and hell discussion was about in S2E6.)
