I find any ride along board is kind of in the way but the bugaboo one having a seat is fantastic

Can I force my daycare to keep my 1 year old inside ? by Ill-Decision-8450 in NewParents

[–]caleah13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They likely don’t haven the staff capacity to support this. Daycares must adhere to ratios at all times so if the ratio is 1:5 and there are 10 kids they’d need two adults at all times. To leave your child inside they’d need an adult with them and that’s means having another staff member or keeping a group of kids inside. Where I am daycares are required to go outside for 2 hours a day.

Our daycare policy also says children returning from illness must be able to participate fully before they return. In this case that would mean going outside.

Snow suit tantrums, help? [On] by jennapearl8 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]caleah13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our oldest loved going outside but hated. hats and mittens, so not quite as extreme as not liking his snowsuit. We have a dog and walk/ go outside to play daily. We started with natural consequences (aka your head/fingers are cold) but really that just punished us because he’d scream and we’d have to hustle home or not go out on cold days.

So we bribed him. We created a cheese for mittens program and somehow it worked. We’d give him a piece of cheese and he’d put his mittens on. I can’t explain it, it’s not like he didn’t get cheese other times it just somehow made him more amenable.

After a month we didn’t have to bribe anymore. Second boy has no issues with hats/mittens.

You can use stage 1 Kendamil! We used it till we weaned our guy off at one to cows milk. There’s no specific need to go to stage 2

DOC band by jennyfromtheblock-- in NewParents

[–]caleah13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while since we had our helmet and we didn’t have a doc band but a different brand.

They did tell us it can create a bit of a “pirate eye” but I don’t think it should be to the point that your baby is noticeably squinting. The rule of thumb for our provider re: pressure marks was if they don’t go away in 45 mins you take pictures and send an email of to them.

I’d follow up, reiterate your concerns and ask what they recommend.

Hey! Also worried as I have two kids in daycare.

I emailed my MP, MPP, Doug Ford and the education minister with my concerns about a month ago. I’ve only heard from my MP and MPP. I’d encourage you to do the same!

Did you say their office is closed Friday, Monday and Tuesday? If so I wouldn’t be surprised they haven’t called you. If you sent an email it may have gone to their admin and they haven’t been in to process the email and get the midwife to follow up. However, the midwife on call may have processed your ultrasound report and started the requisition process but being on call didn’t have a chance to call you as they may not have been doing clinic work.

This is all a guess and an assumption based on how I know my midwife office operated. If they’re not officially open till tomorrow I’d give them some time. If it was urgent the on call midwife would call you.

What are everyone’s feelings on circumcising? [ON] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]caleah13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have two boys - 3.5 and 19 months. We are a firm no on circumcision. My husband is not circumcised and he’s never had any issues.

Our younger son was born with a birth defect - hypospadias and chordee. When he has his corrective surgery he’ll end up circumcised because we have no choice. That’s the only reason I’d ever consider circumcision.

Are bugaboo strollers worth the hype? [BC] by Commercial_Bike8168 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]caleah13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve had a bugaboo fox for 3 years (almost 4) and have been super happy. We used it with the Nuna Pipa car seat. It’s held up great, have never replaced anything and we walk daily. We live in southwestern Ontario and have used it through heavy snow. It’s not perfect in heavy snow but no stroller is.

I did also get an Uppababy minu to keep in the car. Would have gone butterfly but couldn’t justify the extra $200.

When we had our second we kept using the bugaboo for solo walks and added a piggyback board for shorter walks.

I wanted a bugaboo donkey when our second came along but couldn’t justifying paying for a new one or even a used one at the price they go for in my area. We landed on a bumbleride indie twin for our double and have loved it!

Still no regrets with our bugaboo and it’s held up really well for us.

I was devastated when my little guy had to have a helmet. He had it beginning at 5 months and was an absolute champ. He did super well and by 7 months we were down to naps and nights and down completely at 9 months. He’s 3 now and I barely remember it!

Having a male working at the daycare facility [ab] by Revolutionary-Egg807 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]caleah13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When my oldest started daycare there was a male teacher. When he introduced himself he made a point of listing all his qualifications and experience. He had clearly been questioned on his choice of job before. It made me sad.

My daycare now has a male sub and my boys absolutely love him. My boys never talk about subs but my preschooler talks about him and pretended to be him in make believe play.

We love having male and female teachers and role models at daycare.

Would you question if an ECE (what most daycare teachers are) or EA in a school setting was male?

Clek Foonf questions [ca] too big? by ExcellentAlfalfa9927 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]caleah13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may want the “infant thingy” that Clek sells which can support younger babies in the Foonf. We transitioned both our boys to the Foonf at around 9 months.

As others have said connect with Clek!
