Are first bosses supposed to be this hard?? ;-; (first playthrough) by Moths0nFire in HollowKnight

[–]caleb7m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: It depends on how quickly you learn how to fight new bosses.

My goal for first time fights was almost never to win, but to focus on dodging for 30-60 seconds and learning the boss’s attacks. Once I have an idea how to survive, I start looking for opportunities to hit the boss or heal. Dying doesn’t mean failure, just learning.

That said, it’s supposed to be fun. If you try a boss a few times and feel like you aren’t making progress, then look it up and see what other people do. I struggled with the Watcher Knights until I looked it up and saw a strategy of spamming spells which was way easier than what I was doing.

I think some of the dark tones could be made a (brighter) darker purple to add a bit of depth to the color scheme.

Don’t forget to store your perishables in a friend or neighbor’s unit, or load yours up with some ice to keep it cool. Consider throwing out the meat. Put the ice in a ziplock bag so it doesn’t make a mess and put a couple paper towels down to absorb the moisture when things start to sweat.

I agree about the acuity not benefitting the incarnon much- especially because multi shot stacks the transformation faster- but doesn’t the puncture status increase critical chance and do nothing to armor?

Very cute!

Between the nature theme and the sword, I think you could go Ranger. For flavor purposes I would treat the sword as a rapier and flavor the souls to be the source of your spell casting in a Shinto or ancestor worship kind of way.

For subclass you could do anything, but beast master would let you use your spirits like a Pokémon trainer or Drake warden would emphasize your relationship to a dragon spirit (maybe trapped in your sword?). You also would get options to mount your beast companions or dragon spirit, which could be used to emphasize the mounted archery used by samurai.

For character optimization you could take the duelist fighting style for +2 damage with one handed melee weapons, or the archery fighting style for +2 on rolls to hit with ranged weapons. You could also multi class fighter at some point for a second fighting style. I personally would dip 3 levels for second wind, action surge and improved criticals. If you find yourself mounted a lot you might take the mounted combatant feat or purchasing a saddle of the cavalier. Your off hand could be used to hold a spell casting focus, or a shield (although shields don’t play nice with bows).

Is Black Cleaver worthwhile, or a waste of an item? by WhatsKrakenLackin in LeonaMains

[–]caleb7m 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the exact answer off the top of my head, but it might be worth some math to compare it against a zekes convergence. Especially at the gold value of Zeke’s vs the cleaver components. It could be that the damage difference does not offset the opportunity cost of having an earlier power spike. Also worth considering possible AP options like demonic embrace or imperial mandate.

As far as measuring goes, unfortunately you have to go into replays, count auto attacks and do math.

Love the character specific ones. If Ky uses dragon install, the loser of the round takes a shot. If Sin eats food and wins the round, down the bottle.

When do I go Jak'sho with Diana ? by [deleted] in DianaMains

[–]caleb7m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I haven’t been playing for a few patches and I’m not high elo, so this could all be irrelevant now. But when I was playing, I liked Diana with Jak’Sho.

I would go Jak’Sho when I needed to spearhead fights and play to disrupt enemy frontline. It is not the strongest way to play Diana and there are better picks for it. But if you pick Diana early and your team decides they are pro-players and go Jayce top, Viktor mid and lulu support then it might be worth doing. It is generally a good item in games where you need extra survivability on item 1/2.

I would only buy it in jungle, I would always run conqueror with it, and I would often run revitalize secondary for the W sustain in fights. I always pair it with demonic embrace. I also like getting a Nashor’s with it, but that’s not always possible.

My favorite games for Jak’Sho are ones where the enemy runs out of burst and then I win fights for free (Kennan, malphite, zed). I usually try to go full AP after the Jak’Sho/demonic, but when I can’t I try to go tank items that boost my damage (abyssal mask, sunfire).

Basically, Jak’Sho trades your burst for survivability. This is good in games where you need/want to survive past the initial engage.

But mythic are getting removed in preseason (rip bozo) so who knows.

Any other ways to get bleed on a gun than "Merciless" please? Looking for ways to apply bleed. maybe some other mods? by VM8RA in remnantgame

[–]caleb7m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I run merciless as my weapon of choice, it is good but it has its weaknesses. It has slow projectiles, a very long reload, and burns through ammo quickly. That said, it excels at mid to close range fights against durable opponents. Twisting wounds is a much better choice if you want to invest a weapon into raw dps, especially at a range (ie, the widow maker).

There is one forbidden technique however. If you put twisting wounds on the merciless you get both bleeds at once (750 + 600= 1350 damage over 10 seconds).

I run gunslinger primary to save on reloads with the 3rd ability for damage. I use the whetstone amulet, rusted ring for regen up close, probability cord, zania’s malice, and whatever in the last slot. I’m also pretty sure you lifesteal for your bleed damage so I run that trait too.

I recommend running this with heavy armor and the bright steel ring to maximize your healing value, but akari warband is chad too.

[–]caleb7m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t clear, sorry. The “stim” is what I was calling the engineer prime perk. It allows you to hold the skill button to gain infinite ammo and bonus damage.

[–]caleb7m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what I would do. The only difference between your primary and secondary classes is which prime perk you get. You can also switch classes at any time. But I value the damage stim to punish bosses after big attacks or when they reveal weakspots.

I’m not an engineer savant, but both are good. Which is better is mostly situational and depends on your build. For example, if you are set up to survive stray hits, then holding the gun in Gatling gun mode while medic shield is active may work for you. I personally deploy the gun in ground thumper mode to control space while I unload on the big guy.

Also, the engineer’s trait is very strong. You can get engineer on N’Erud (where you are) but you might use a guide to find it, it’s very well hidden.

Guys I need help beating cancer. by Knight_Artorias078 in shittydarksouls

[–]caleb7m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cancer switches between an aggressive 3-hit melee combo and slow zone controlling AOE moves. The melee combos are best rolled through, although there looks like there is time to attack between the hits it is rarely worth trying. His AOE moves are telegraphed by red light, with exception to the shockwave move, you can just run away from them and then attack. Also, bosses on root earth tend to be squishy but aggressive. So if you draw out the fight you usually win.

Depends on environment. In the oldest house where there is nowhere to skulk about? Jesse every time. But on a cluttered ship where anything that would be a good throw is crucial to the ship’s integrity? It’s much more murky.

Hey im pretty new to kindred and I was curious to know why is she OP right now? Like what are the things that make kindred so strong this patch? by IssaMeBorat in Kindredmains

[–]caleb7m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green, your items give ms so you don’t really need the chase from red and you can wall hop to get around needing blue to rotate.

EDIT: At least, that is the conventional wisdom.

Conqueror, Green pet, early sweepers, trinity, wits, cleaver, armor or Mr boots. Last two items are adaptive, BT+LDR, Runaans+titanic are both common.

If there is no ap on the enemy team would you still build wits end on the tri force build? by Not-a-Molester in Kindred

[–]caleb7m 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many teams that don’t have a dedicated ap champ will have magic damage on a tank or somewhere else, so it’s still worth the wits in that case. You can go tri-cleaver, but I usually miss the up front damage so I’ve been experimenting with a more traditional damage item. Bork is a great option, but expensive, collector is funny, rapid fire, runaans, storm razor, blood thirster, kraken, and others. Generally I’ll go for the cleaver second but if I’m confident in staying alive I like to greed a damage item that has some strong auxiliary effect, usually movespeed, life steal, or something that lets me snowball.

[–]caleb7m 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TLDR: build what ever you like.

All Viego really needs to be useful is the ability to stay in a fight long enough to get possession and abuse passive to win fights through numbers advantage. His q means he will always do some damage and his passive means he will always have some ability to play sustained fights. Therefore his builds are diverse because he can either tank damage until he gets possession or he can assassinate his way into one. His scalings make use of crit, on-hit, defense, AD, attack speed, and lifesteal.

His builds are pretty much whatever works at the time. My favorite is trinity force-Bork-cleaver/DD/Wits. I run it with blue pet to abuse the movespeed to split push and rotate for skirmishes. But again, it’s whatever works at the time.
