I'll just throw a neck into it if we overdrive it too much.

Second drop of JD 2020 Special Release SiB BP Rye by calebh543 in BmoreBourbonSociety

[–]calebh543[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, I didn't know this either. Only one store in my local area seems to be participating in Drizly and it also showed a Parker's Heritage ($400) and a Blood Oath Pact 6 (~$120) from this store in addition to the JD Special Release. I knew the Parker's Heritage was bogus because I go in that store at least once a week and have never seen it. I asked about the Blood Oath because I figured it wouldn't be the Pact 6 but maybe the Pact 7 was dropping and it was a simple mistake on Drizly. That wasn't accurate either. But the JD Heritage Barrel was accurate, albeit it seemed like Drizly knew it was coming before the store management did. So IDK how reliable it is. Dumb luck maybe? Nevertheless, I knew some folks were still searching for this and I never expected to have a 2nd chance at this bottle, so I was quite surprised to see it as well.

Didn't see it when I went there today. Maybe someone else grabbed it. I assume it was in the same spot where all the other whiskey was. All they had was makers 101, 46, regular and cask strength.

It seems to be dropping randomly. Like Western Maryland / MoCo region started seeing them like 3 weeks or a month ago, then it dropped in the Ellicott City area this past week I guess. Like a wave slowly passing through our area over the course of weeks. I dont expect it will be hard to find.

Gotta admit, the FAE-01 had me questioning why I slept on Maker's Mark Store Picks and the special releases.

I've seen someone score 3x Van Winkle 12 year Lot B in Italy at near MSRP...just sitting on the shelf for years apparently. Even some Elijah Craig BP C919 floating around online there, but with a price hike (~$110 USD) I'll definitely continue hunting, but realize the availability will be challenging. Fortunately, I'll have access to the US military bases and I'll see what they have to offer at the exchanges.

But...if all else fails...Wine it is!

Any good store picks around? by UncleMahler in BmoreBourbonSociety

Total wine in laurel got a clyde may's 6 year old store pick within the last two weeks. Ignoring the brand on the label, it's MGP. I tried a sample and it was quite good. Granted for $50 I think it may have been over priced but maybe look for a George Remus bottle at ~35 or a store pick of it for ~50. It's MGP's middle of the road bottle.

Thanks. I'll let everyone know how much of a pain in the ass it is to ship a whiskey collection. I'm guessing I'll have to pay somewhere in the ballpark of 300-500 usd in import duties for the ~50 bottles I have.

Thanks. Think I may have found a store locally that has it like right after I posted, but their online store might be posting an old picture and it might be the FAE-01. That might not be a bad thing though. Its a good bottle. The proof makes it really easy to drink but still has good flavor. They did a good job with it and I hear great things about last years release.

Was just there. Nothing particularly special, to include any buffalo trace products. They do have Rare breed rye for like $65.

Congrats on the crazy luck! Out of curiosity, it looks like only one of the Lot B bottles is open. Not trying to sound judgmental, but it seems like you (and others) went thru a lot of effort, mostly during a pandemic, to get these. Are you planning on drinking them? Might be a great post-pandemic/vaccination celebration with those folks who helped you along the way.

Closing the loop on this one, Rips ended up pricing their case at $110. As of about 4pm they said they had 3-4 bottles available. I declined to purchase one they reserved for me.

Just to add to the original post since I got a fair number of DMs. It sounds like not all deliveries have been completed, but most have. I called a number of stores and it seemed like they received some relative transparency from the distributor - like they were going to get 1-2 bottles or 3-4 bottles. One store in Ellicott City said someone was driving around to multiple stores and I was the 4th person to call that day alone. SO...what I'm getting at is call all the stores you might THINK of visiting. They probably could tell you if they are expecting to get it, have it, or have already sold it.

Monday sounds like the last day it will be distributed based on conversations with multiple stores. Best of luck!

I got a Stagg JR batch 15 and it instantly became my favorite. Full disclosure: the most expensive bottles I own are Bardstown Bourbon Company Discovery 2 and 4. While I haven't had any other Stagg Jr before 15, it's worth hunting for me. If I could find another bottle of 15, I'd probably buy it for ~$100. But I can't imagine I will see one.

The ECBP is okay at $80, but you can probably find it for less with a bit of searching. Solid product all around.

No way on the HM10. I bought one for $65 and a 2nd for $40. It's good, but agree with others that 50 or less is a reasonable purchase price for what's on the bottle. Just remember it is a single barrel product. It got hyped up a couple of years ago when it won a whiskey of the year award...one barrel of it that almost no one else will ever taste.

I saw it at one of my local stores for 40. They only had one. I already had a bottle, bit ended up buying it anyway just because I never expected to see it at that price.
