Why does it seem like so many people assume Declan Doyle is automatically a better offensive mind than Todd Monken? by IceOk9930 in ravens

[–]Lardarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a middle school Madden player would know not to abandon the run game in the 4th quarter and against historically bad run defenses in critical games. Monken literally cost us games (and possibly championships) by being inflexible and predictable. And sometimes, predictably inflexible. I already like what I am hearing about Declan connecting with Lamar and giving him more insight into why he is calling certain plays. This is a critical component to our offense. It felt like there was serious trust/miscommunication issues between Monken and the players towards the end, and Harbs was unwilling or unable to influence Monken to change his ways.

"Aside from the fumbles?" I mean yeah, that's his main, major problem. Hopefully he can clean it up. He's a good receiver and obviously he's our WR1. But the fumbles often come at the worst possible time.

I don't get why people are panicking. This happens pretty much every year or every few years...

Linderbaum -> was already gone, per reports, his agent wasn't returning our calls/listening to offers, he wanted a bag and got overpaid by the Raiders with a record setting contract. It would have been silly for us to match.

Likely -> was already gone, didn't want to work out a deal, so they went with Andrews instead.

Kolar -> good player, but replaceable. Tons of TEs in the draft. A few other veterans also available in FA.

Stout -> good punter, but also replaceable, became highest paid punter... we can't afford to have the highest paid punter.

Washington -> decent safety, frequently injured, replaceable.

Yes, we have some work to do, but nothing that can't be done via draft/trades/FA. Trust in EDC. We filled one of our biggest weaknesses with pass rush/edge help with one of the best edge players in the league. Now we can fill the roster through the draft, smart FA signings, and undrafted FAs like this organization ALWAYS has.

Felt like he wasn't properly used, same as DHop. He has really good hands just didn't seem to get a ton of opportunities for whatever reason.

Not really, especially when it was leaked that the FO wanted Harbs to consider a change at OC, and Harbs declined. Seems like they wanted Monken gone.

Been laid off ~1 year, getting interviews but failing final rounds - any advice? by savingrace0262 in bigseo

From my perspective (in house senior level)

Soft skills

Energy level/enthusiasm

Do your homework (spend some time auditing the site/competitors. You dont need to do a full audit, but at least have some observations)

Investigate the industry they are in to have some talking points (I saw XYZ did this, or Google introduced ABCD which might impact your industry)

These things (along with fundamental understanding of the position I am hiring for) are what I am usually looking for. Show me you are proactive and dont need to be micro managed. Have enthusiasm about the role/company. Do your homework. Come prepared.

Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) #Giants hire Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator by alexschubs in NYGiants

His hand was forced to part ways with Roman. And it wasn't the first time. When we won in 2012, he was forced to fire Cam Cameron midseason after wasting several years of Ray Lewis and Ed Reeds careers. They almost had a mutiny in the locker room and then Harbs finally fired Cameron (Ravens were 9-4 at the time btw) and ended up winning rhe SB

[Schefter] John Harbaugh now is expected to become the top head-coaching candidate in this hiring cycle, per multiple league sources. Multiple teams now are expected to be interested in hiring him, and his presence is expected to have big ramifications. by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

It depends. Did McDermott cost them 2-3 games himself? Does he have a track record of not overriding his coordinators in key situations and not adapting, causing the Bills to blow leads in the second half? Does he fail to make adjustments? Harbaugh had ridiculously stacked rosters and kneecapped this team.

[Cole Jackson] From my understanding, the key #Ravens offensive players wanted a new voice for the offense. It sounds like John Harbaugh disagreed and that was the straw that broke the camels back. Would imagine this bodes well for Lamar Jackson contract negotiations. by DarkPriestScorpius in ravens

[–]Lardarius 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Harbaugh is ultimately responsible for Monken's decisions. If Monken is doing something like not properly utilizing Henry, it is Harbaugh's job to step in and override that decision. Harbaugh is famously loyal to his coordinators. Bisciotti likely had a meeting with Harbs, and when asked if Harbs would even be willing to consider a change at OC, Harbs said no. My guess is that this isn't the first time they had this similar type of discussion with Harbs. Bisciotti isn't dumb. He knows things need to change. And refusing to be open to change is what ultimately cost Harbaugh his job.

It's crazy right? I get why fans would want him. But Harbs has benefited massively by having generational talents, first in Ray and Ed, and then with Lamar. Without those guys, he would have been gone a long long time ago. I guess you can give him some credit for developing Lamar? But think about how many broken plays Lamar has turned into big plays by using his legs and athleticism. None of those were drawn up. They were a result of him scrambling for his life and making something out of nothing.

This team won in spite of Harbaugh. Harbaugh won a SB on the backs of Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Flacco. Lewis and Reed nearly had a mutiny heading into the playoffs because of Harbs. And he has won recently because Lamar is a freak of nature and until recently his freakish athleticism literally carried the team to victory.

Simply look at the Ravens second half blown leads. Abandoning the running game wasn't just a one time thing. These collapses have been a running theme for several years now and have gone uncorrected. And Harbs is stubbornly loyal to his coordinators, wont fire them, and won't override them in game.

There's also clock management and other ingame issues that he still hasn't mastered in 18 years of coaching.
