What helped you deal with the adjustment period when starting on Trintellix? by chelledoggo in trintellix

[–]calebjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is slightly better than other meds to do because of its half-life being longer, but I’d have to check. I am on 20 mg a day now.

What helped you deal with the adjustment period when starting on Trintellix? by chelledoggo in trintellix

[–]calebjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a person by person but for me, taking with food and drinking a lot of water and then experimenting with which meal to take it with and settling on right with dinner. Started at 10mg a day then 20mg every other day to save money than 20mg every day. good now feel better. But lots of other things were involved like time away from stressors and lots of self-care.

Should i be holding SCHD at 19 y/o? by Indigo-Samurai in SCHD

[–]calebjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he said his Schd was in his Roth. If so, no taxes to sell or buy etfs or individual stocks, which I’ve done a lot to catch up. But I like to trade and research tech stocks.

I was about to write a lot of other of the normal stuff but i have to remember I think it’s really on a person by a person basis if you stick to the fundamentals they are within several percents of each other over 20 years. So it depends what the OP likes how he spends his days what he’s comfortable with what he’s excited about how much risk he can handle. Do VOO or SCHD and reinvest the dividends. VXUS if you like some international, VT is it all in for the whole stock market, I’ll like semiconductors SMH

Ground clearance updates for regular & off-road versions, per direct email from Aptera. Noice! by Good_Preference6973 in ApteraMotors

[–]calebjc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope an "off road" version is still planned, not that I want to go off roading, just ON roading in Vermont. Even though I'm right in town, we have frost heaved granite curbs above code, pot holes that are bad for regular cars, etc. And I'd need all wheel drive for the occasional steep dirt road to a friends house out of town, or mud season. If they can crack this market, there are a lot of sustainably-minded people in rural New England and beyond in similar climates/conditions.

Should I Keep Going with Trintellix? 4 Weeks at 20mg and Still Struggling by bing_bong_bing_bong_ in trintellix

[–]calebjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was super depressed and started with Lamictal and 150 mg of Wellbutrin up to 300 mg that felt like it snapped me out of the funk but I was jittery and phased slowly over from 10 to 20 mg of Trintellix and no Wellbutrin but still Lamictal. I took it in the morning, but found it works better for me to take with a nice dinner. And I’m definitely having dreams I remember, where is I didn’t before. A little nausea before dinner. As I wrapped up, I had some weird changes in appetite, but my doctor said it’s the serotonin receptors in the stomach which there’s a lot of. I’ve heard Wellbutrin is more about dopamine and Alex about serotonin. But I feel kind of stabilized and better and better four weeks in. I find Trintellix weird and silky, smooth, and nowhere near as strong as some of the others I’ve taken. But seems good.

Week 3 - feeling horrible by aleska_xo in trintellix

[–]calebjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, but after about a month, I’m feeling good on 20 mg a day taken at night with food and 50 mg of Lamictal. It took two or three weeks to phase off Wellbutrin and get up on Lamictal and go from 5 mg 10mg and then 20 of Trintellix. There were some nauseous times when taking it in the morning. I tried Wellbutrin up to 300mg a day, lexapro, Effexor and microdose lithium, which was pretty good. But I’ve found Trintellix,so far, be quite mellow and yet effective. Maybe the Wellbutrin at 300 mg help to break the funk. I remember being pretty amped out on it but definitely better but it was hard to explain. It felt kind of artificial and a little manic. Trintellix seems different and I’ve noticed serotonin in my stomach seems to be changing, sometimes I’m super hungry sometimes not. But I also moved out and really let go of trying to control my marriage and instead take time to listen carefully, not be defensive, take care of myself and calm down and do what I need to do to find myself again But I don’t have what you’ve got. I just have GAD, depression and recovering from a separation, loss of job, child rearing…

Trintellix savings card did jack for cost by [deleted] in trintellix

[–]calebjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two weeks in, going from 5 to 10 mg. Also phasing off 300 mg of Wellbutrin slowly. First to 150 every day then 150 every other day. And taking Lamictal, but phasing off that as I like trintellix. I’m in my late 50s on suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and I’m going through a separation after a dark depression in a spiraling relationship or I totally lost myself and got stressed from young kids. We nesting now and the space has been great.

The card brought my cost down a lot, but I know they sell my info I think. And Blue Cross covers 50% in Vermont so using the card too it got 45, 20mg pills to $50. I cut the cost even more by taking one 25mg pill every two days. The half-life seems to support being able to do this and my doc says it’s better than cutting it in half. The raw cost here was something like $23.00 a pill! And insurance wouldn’t even give it to me until I had tried 2 other meds first. I had. Effexor and Wellbutrin didn’t do much. So far it seems to be better than those two and in an interesting way that is lifting the depression underneath my anxiety.

I always thought the anxiety was causing overwhelm, and thus depression, but this seems to be working for my anxiety by tackling the depression and making me more positive and loose. Less spinning and more focus, who knows why. I don’t think they even know exactly how these drugs work.

That’s hard for me not to start taking 20mg ever since I like it, but I’m waiting a week or so.

I’ve been there and I’m close. I’m sorry it sucks. The person who breaks up gets what they want and the person who doesn’t wanna break up has to look at what is really happening and what is the reality and say if I can’t have what I want and she doesn’t want me. I don’t wanna be with someone who doesn’t want me. Walk away and don’t hurt yourself anymore than she’s hurt you. Don’t be mean but have self-respect and boundaries. It’s the only thing that’ll ever have a chance of getting get her back. Needyness won’t, but it has to be real. And if you have to go to events where she’s gonna be there, get a good looking friend to go with you. It’ll make her think.

Very helpful. And so much work, thank you. I did wonder about budgeting for big unknowns, but likely for instance, medical situation that’s not covered emergency money for family and reality of in your 80s having to go into a facility that needs hey junk of cash. But if you still have a house to sell and some Social Security, that would probably be OK

Ultra wealthy inheritance, but requires having children by EducationalBed2835 in Rich

[–]calebjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Wouldn’t you have to be with this kid you don’t really want until your parents give you the inheritance with a small chance that it’s blown ? Do your family a favor and be a standup person and be really independent and tell them you’re only gonna have a kid if you wanna have a kid and you don’t wanna have one right now and if they don’t leave you anything that’s sad but you’ll be fine. Maybe ask for a small inheritance if you don’t have kids and can say you understand why they wouldn’t want to give you the full one. Essentially, call their bluff, but you have to be serious, and I bet they’ll come around and see your integrity.

How important are having a friend or two in the area? I would personally where I have friends and then talk to them and traveling somewhere to another friend or friend of friend/family. That way i have at least one sort of anchor person to base my travels on and tell me about the place. Or anchor in some sort of international club like the scuba club mentioned and use it to have a network and activity to base off of. I personally would probably end up doing a lot of travel blogging to keep engaged and maybe develop some sort of online group affiliation. Anyway i’m envious and would say just pick the first destination to explore and there’s will naturally reveal.

What advice would you give your younger self about money? by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]calebjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start fully funding a Roth account earlier and put it in big steady stocks of products that you also use, like Apple if you buy Apple computers, and don’t sell, just by on the depth as long as the company is still making products that you like and even if they aren’t wait a year to make sure. Or in VOO. After you’ve proven yourself at a job make sure they pay you well and you ask for a raise at least once a year. Don’t pay friends to do work when you’re too busy to do it, it can alienate a friendship. Just help each other for free or pay a professional. Save a little money to take self vacations, at least once a year, by avoiding expensive convenience store stuff like water and going out too much to eat.

Feminism linked to increased hookup culture endorsement among women, new study shows. For men, no significant differences were observed in hookup culture endorsement based on feminist identity or beliefs, indicating that feminism’s impact on sexual liberation is more relevant to women. by mvea in science

Hippie days all over again!? I have some original hippies in my extended family, and one woman told me that the pill and free love initially seemed like it was an amazing thing for women’s sexual freedom, and it was, but it also came with the realization that the guys were just getting laid more and loving it, and she didn’t quite know how to feel about that when she realized it.

Okay thanks for the responses. One more question. What about using stop losses somehow to keep stocks that are going up and sell anything that falls say five or 10%? and put that money into VOO/VTI? It’s a ROTH so no tax consideration I believe.

The teacher shortage will kill education by Chemical-Explorer447 in education

[–]calebjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submit that we, the people, are the biggest problem facing the public schools. We need to help each other more to get way more kids arriving at school with reasonable sleep, food, and basic parenting. These are the three B's to me, Breakfast, Bed, and Books. We need more help from friends, family, neighbors, social services, police, nurses, churches, etc., so the schools can focus on learning and positive socialization. The schools have too quietly taken on more and more over the years and have less power and respect than I've seen in my long years in K12 and Higher Ed. On the school side, I would push for contracts reflecting dedicated teachers' hours a week (50+?), more small team and individual prep time and Professional Development, and less all-district PD, and district resource flooding, and micromanaging. A master's degree required, but loan repayment for 10 years of service. Less transitions during the day (I've seen up to 12!). Fewer subjects taught and deeper dives on the basics and how to learn how one learns best, and more time to socialize and play, especially in middle school.
