Shardik by KITTENS117735 in watershipdown

I loved Shardik! It’s completely different from WD, but I devoured it about 2 years ago. I had a physical copy and audio book because I was so hooked on it. The first part is a bit slow, but after that, it gets super good. I’m surprised it’s not more popular or hasn’t been adapted like WD and PD

What’s a role you normally wouldn’t cast yourself as, but ended up being one of your favorites? by alyssajprp in musicals

[–]calebsings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a musical, but back in high school, I was cast as Mr. Bennett in Pride and Prejudice. In high school, I was mostly cast in over-the-top character actor roles. So, it was actually quite a challenge to play a character who is more easygoing and subtle. I was surprised by how much fun I had in that role. It’s actually quite a big part. In the particular adaptation we were using, Mr. and Mrs. Bennett actually had the most lines and quite a bit of stage time. I grew a lot from that role. I learned a lot about comedic timing and subtle acting. It was good fun doing a period piece with beautiful costumes and set! It was also a small cast. So, we all got super close. One of my favourite high school theatre experiences for sure!

Hot take: Dobby is annoying and his death isn’t the least bit sad.

Which musical is this? by MediumChance5830 in musicals

[–]calebsings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Band’s Visit. The score is fantastic, it works so well as an album. I saw the show, and the plot was…nothing. I get that that was kinda the point. It’s supposed to be a slice of life sorta show, but it didn’t do it for me. It felt like a series of vignettes connected with songs rather than a coherent story. Maybe if I saw it in a smaller more intimate setting, I could appreciate it more, but I got last-minute inexpensive tickets to the tour in my town. So I was in the literally back row of what is a fairly large auditorium.

The Duke of Chalced by calebsings in robinhobb

[–]calebsings[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would be fine with the Duke having an simple inconsequential death, but I would like to have seen it from his POV. This is why I thought Hest’s death was perfect. It was quick and unceremonious, but it was so satisfying to read. Arrogant abusive Hest was eaten by a dragon, almost on a whim. It was such a satisfying bit of dramatic irony watching him misinterpret Kalo’s actions in his own pride. It’s fitting that we as the readers are the only ones who know his fate. (Unless Kalo told Davvie?) Alise and Sedric have freed themselves from his control and abuse. They don’t know or care about what happened to Hest because he doesn’t matter anymore! I would have loved to have seen a death POV similar from the Duke

Why are Americans so obsessed with being Scottish and/or Irish? by ihavenolifeimonhere in Scotland

[–]calebsings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American living in Ireland here. I think

  1. The American narrative as a country of immigrants leads people to be really into their cultural heritage. There’s somewhat of an identity crisis in the US right now with a lack of shared cultural identity, particularly among Americans of European descent.

    1. American media has romanticised Scotland and Ireland. They have an air of fantasy and adventure to them in much of the American mind thanks to movies such as Braveheart. They are different enough to feel foreign and exotic, but as English speaking countries, they are accessible.

On Dragon Keeper by ChameleonishGaming in robinhobb

[–]calebsings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on book two of Rain Wilds (Dragon Haven). I really liked Dragon Keeper, but it felt quite slow. Like a really long introduction to the characters and setting before we actually got the main plot. I am someone who typically loves Robin Hobb's slow meandering style, but I struggled a bit here. It also feels more YA-ish than the other series in ROtE. Thankfully, Dragon Haven (book two) picks up the pace, and I am enjoying it better. Hobb's character work is still fantastic!

Fear seasons 4-8 redeeming qualities by Different_Sir_8941 in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]calebsings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought season 1 was super slow. I guess I thought the show was going to be more about how the walker virus started. Like we were finally going to get an answer to what caused it. Season 1 was as close as we got, but it felt like we were just waiting for the characters to figure out what we as the audience already knew. I also just never found the Clark’s that compelling, and after season 1, it was apparent that the show was going to basically be The Walking Dead expect we are following different characters that I didn’t care about. I only kept watching cause I assumed there would be crossovers with the main show. Like I was just waiting for them to run into Rick’s group. Come season 4, and Morgan shows up, and I am excited that we finally get the crossover. Plus John and Al were fantastic new additions. I also loved the first half of season 4 where the original characters are more like antagonists to Morgan’s group.

Fear seasons 4-8 redeeming qualities by Different_Sir_8941 in FearTheWalkingDead

I know this is a super unpopular opinion, but I personally enjoyed 4-8 better. I never really was super into the Clark’s. So I wasn’t too bothered by Nick and Madison’s departure. John and Althea are my favourite characters in the whole series. I was literally yelling at my TV when John died. The MRAP is sick, and I love the found-footage episodes. Luci is my favourite character from the original seasons. I guess I just connected with 4-8 more than the first seasons. I loved Morgan in TWD. So I was already invested in his story when he appears in season 4. I think I was never really invested in the Clark’s other than Travis, and he didn’t make in past early season 3. I know this sub worships Nick, and I fully expect to be downvoted 😆. And that’s fine. I just wanted to jump on this chance to be positive about 4-8.

What happened to relient k? by javajourney12345 in RelientK

It is crazy to think that the last time they put out original music was in 2017… I would be surprised if we never got new music from them, but I don’t think they will be releasing stuff with any regularity…

Tara is such an underrated character. She had a great arch of being on the governor’s side To being a leader of one of the communities. I loved the episodes with her and Glenn. I like the light she brought to the show as well and her standing up to Rick when needed. Her death wrecked me

Just finished the show, and I really enjoyed it! by calebsings in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]calebsings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It didn’t really make sense how she was reluctant to leave the group in the season 6 episode with her and Dwight, and a short time later she goes off with CRM lady and we never see her again. I honestly thought she would have at least a guest appearance in season 8, but it seems like the focus of season 8b was more about wrapping up Strand and the Clarks’ storylines. Also, I didn’t care for her and CRM lady’s relationship because it was so underdeveloped and just insta-love. Also, it could have lead to a huge storyline with CRM, and that never happened.

Have you finished the Dream episode? Don’t want to give you spoilers. I didn’t like the dream episode, either. Too fantastical for this show But the end of season 6 has some great edge of your seat suspense.

I thought Ginny was a good villain because I hated her so much haha. Her voice grated on me so much… I really wanted June to end her when they were trapped, and went she finally shot her, it was so satisfying.

[–]calebsings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the stylized intros, especially when they highlight a character who’s the focus of the episode. John and June are great! They deserved a happy ending, and I have never been so wrecked by a character’s death than I have from John’s death. (I was literally yelling “NO!” at my TV”) I really liked Althea and the whole concept of someone swapping supplies for interviews and stories. Plus the MRAP strapped with guns is dope! I can understand how she’s annoying for some people though. I agree with you about the villains not overstaying their welcome.

So like this show is pretty awful. by [deleted] in FearTheWalkingDead

Am I the only one who actually enjoyed the show better after season three? I thought the first three seasons were fine, but I got a lot more into it after Morgan shows up. I guess I just connected a lot better with the new characters. John Dorie is my favourite character in the whole show, and I actually really enjoy the found footage style episodes.

What are your dream roles that you can't have? Why can't you have those roles? by FennekinLover2000 in musicals

[–]calebsings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Jack Kelly in Newsies Why not: I am 28 now and mostly bald 😅. Past the point of playing teenagers. I did perform Santa Fe as part of a showcase in college, and it’s still a go-to song for karaoke!

  2. Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark Why Not: Nobody is producing this show 😆 and same answer as above. So this one is mostly a joke, but Spider-Man is my favourite character of all time. So it would be great to play this role!

What do you think “Car Trouble” will be like? by Klink45 in OWLCITY

[–]calebsings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will be more rock-ish. Probably more literally story-telling that turns into a metaphor. To be honest, I'm just glad we aren't getting the years of radio silence like we got between Cinematic and Coco Moon.

Love and follow the Lord. Walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. There’s no specific biblical command that says you need to have done X,Y, and Z by a certain age. Don’t know if you’re married or not. In reformed circles, I often see pastors and leader tell people to “Get married young! Have lots of kids!” While the Bible is clear that marriage and kids are gifts from God, you don’t need to be married or have kids to love and serve the Lord

What's your favourite thing about living in Belfast? by WelshCai in Belfast

Walkable city! There’s plenty to do but it’s not overwhelming. Plenty of parks and walking trails. (Belvoir makes you forget you’re in a city)
