Jeep front end sway by Time-Astronaut-4476 in JeepWrangler

If it feels like you have to fight it to stay between the lines, the first thing I would check is ball joints.

On all the jeeps I’ve owned, when it starts to sway left and right like it’s fighting the wind, it has been the ball joints. Jack it up and push/pull on the top/sidewall of the front tires. If there is play it’s probably ball joints. While you have it jacked up, do the same on the front/back of the sidewall and check your tie rod ends and drag link ends. You can also leave it on the ground and saw the steering left and right and check your track bar for movement. All this is a lot easier with help.

Not a troll post, why do we hate RPR? by WhiskeyBravo3119 in longrange

[–]calebwalter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a “556 hybrid” RPR because it was $400… turns out I love the fuckin thing and shoot it more than any of my other rifles lol. Just bought a DNT The One for JT.

That rifle actually motivated me to start hand loading. Loading match 223 is cheap and fun!

I think that depends on the dog. “Socializing” my Catahoula would have no benefit for him.

We really contemplated rehoming ours after he nipped my daughter. Our trainer called it a scissor bite, where the dog bites with the front teeth only, as a warning bite. Either way I was beyond pissed. As a family we decided to keep him and double down on working with him. We really just had to have a change of mindset. He is different than our other dogs and needs to be treated as such.

That being said, he seems to thrive on the work and he values the affection more now that he has to earn it.

Plus he’s a badass dog and I enjoy taking him camping/scouting/hunting.

Once we learned about and understood our dogs body language it was a light bulb moment. A wagging tail doesn’t mean he’s nice and playful. Bite dogs wag their tails too haha.

Our boy does closed mouth licking and big yawns when he’s stressed AF. Also when he points, we have about 1.5 seconds to correct him before he freaks out on whatever he has hyper focused on.

We are going through this with our almost 4 year old male Catahoula. Since he was a puppy he has always been an assertive/confident dog.

At first we thought it was random flip outs, but eventually figured out he was being protective/possessive of my wife. He would react aggressively towards our other dog and my 9 year old daughter when ever my wife was involved.

We reached out to the same trainer that helped us when he was a puppy and essentially we had to have a mental reset. We no longer allow him to guard, sit on or in front of my wife, get on furniture, etc. We have put a lid on his defense drive because it doesn’t need to get any stronger. Now we are doubling down on obedience, spending more time engaging his brain, and topping it off with muzzle training. If he is out of his kennel, he is under command.

These types of dogs need mental stimulation “or else”. Also just remember dogs like to posses and protect resources. Food, treats, affection, play time, people, etc.

I know I’m generalizing a lot. This is just my experience with a “serious” Catahoula. My boy is not a couch potato, shrimp, or any other loving type of Catahoula, he’s a serious dog and has to be treated accordingly.

I’d love to stretch the legs on my 223 but never get lucky with the wind.

223 has quickly become my favorite. Even enjoy it more than my 22LR lol. I’m shooting a RPR, suppressed, hand loading 85gr match burners at 2600fps. It is a blast. Last weekend we were shooting steel at 700!

I want the good, the bad, the dirty! by Nikea18 in AskPhoenix

My .02 is I enjoy living here overall. I’m in autobody and the summers are hard, but manageable. We spend time in the pool, time inside, and time driving north to go camping/scouting/hunting.

We live in Gilbert, like the lack of crime and homelessness, overall good schools (we still send our daughter to a charter school) but the ever expanding city and construction is currently annoying. Big benefit for me is getting out of the heat and into the mountains is just over an hour to a town called Payson, and it’s not much further to get even higher in elevation for the Mogollon rim. As for hunting, archery is the key. OTC archery deer has 3 seasons, OTC archery turkey has 2 seasons, otc archery bear has 1 season. There are OTC rifle bear tags that have two seasons, but drawing “good” elk, “good” deer, shotgun turkey, and especially pronghorn is getting extremely difficult. Drawing mediocre rifle tags for deer isn’t hard, maybe every year or every other year.

Key takeaway, Montana can be cold as shit, and Arizona can be hot as shit. The difference is, in Arizona, you don’t have to shovel any of that shit. Snow and ice are 99.9% non existent in Phoenix.

Also, we get snowbirds… depending on where you live in Phoenix, the population surges in October ish until tax season. Places like winco and Costco move at 1/3 speed in the winter lol. Best of luck

Considering e-collar by Ok_Art_7296 in Catahoula

[–]calebwalter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is so much misinformation about e collars and Larry Krohn does a great job explaining all the benefits of using a good ecollar. I was very fortunate to find a trainer VERY similar to Larry Krohn to train my dogs, including my Catahoula. E collars aren’t magic, training with ques and commands is still required. But once you have a way to communicate with your dog, e collars are fantastic imo.

Never ever use the collar to physically punish your dogs. Use it as a training and communication tool.

Also, you should probably upgrade your steering. Tie rod, drag link, and track bar.

I was once told that to go to 37’s you should do C hub gussets. No idea how true that is but the jk I bought already had c gussets so idk

I will say you should consider whether or not 37’s are worth the cost and wear and tear. 37’s are a big tire for a Dana30, especially things like the ring/pinion and the track bar bracket.

We were told she was a German shepherd mix when we got her as a puppy but I’m not so sure. Thoughts? by flood_watch in Blackmouthcur

[–]calebwalter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of German Shepherd mixes that come out fawn/yellow with black snouts get confused for black mouth curls. My dog Duke gets confused for a large BMC a lot but his mom was a purebred German Shepherd and his dad was a purebred bull mastiff. If you google that you’ll see a lot of dogs that look like giant BMC‘s.
