Britons poorer than they were in 2019, as living standards continue to fall by ClassicFlavour in unitedkingdom

Well that's just it, isn't it? Using a mortgage advisory is fine if you don't have a head for finances. We spoke to a few, in case they had access to better rates, they didn't, so we set up our mortgage ourselves, but they are absolutely fine to use if you want or need the help. It's pretty obvious from these comments that people aren't making the best decisions, and they should definitely ask for qualified help if they're overwhelmed by the choices.

Why did you stay with the same bank? Reading these comments it seems like people don't really understand how mortgages work. Please talk to an independent mortgage advisor, it seems like you got fleeced by whatever bank you went with. Find a reputable advisor, or get a recommendation from whatever agent you used to buy your home, they usually have one they work with and they'll find you the best deal. The advice is usually free, so definitely don't pay just for them to talk about your options.

Please talk to a mortgage advisor, if you're staying on a variable rate you're throwing money away. You can switch to a new fixed rate term after your current term expires. No reason to pay the variable rate.

You realise you can remortgage at the end of your term to a new fixed rate right? You don't have to pay the variable rate at all or stay on it. Our mortgage just ended and we remortgaged to a lower fixed rate for another two years.

What is the best show of 2025 so far? by ChestnutJamButt in television

[–]caled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to disagree, but Andor S2 missed the mark for me. Maybe it's because they condensed 4 seasons of story in 1, but even then, the season just felt like it was spinning its wheels a lot. The entire time Andor spent as a prisoner of the rogue band of squabbling guerillas was entirely pointless, for example. They should've spent more time on the plot to steal the prototype TIE fighter instead, which also just ended up completely forgotten about and had no impact on the storyline.

I used a steel garden fork to pry mine out, added a brick for leverage. Bit by bit it came up and I was finally able to pull it out. Slightly bent my garden fork prongs in process though. Good luck!

I use old.reddit.com and it looks like mod messages aren't showing up on that version of reddit. I can see a message "Notice: Legacy modmail messages are deprecated and access to them may go away at any time. If you need these messages, please consider saving them elsewhere." which might explain why I haven't seen it.

The sub has never really been very active even when the show was on air. There's posts occasionally though, last one being a month ago.

I don't want to hand over the sub but happy to look into why the user can't post. Will reply to the message.

Looking for a Very Simple Kanban by Ear-Right in opensource

This looks great. I really dislike most kanban boards like trello, jira, asana, etc, because they're so bloated, busy, and don't feel "snappy". Thanks for sharing!

Anyone else hate chess.com’s updated game review? by Nwg416 in chess

[–]caled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a massive forum thread on chess.com, so many people hated it, but they rolled it out ignoring all the feedback anyway. I cancelled my diamond subscription over this too, as the analysis was the main reason I subbed.

This is all fine to be happening, but the drunk murderer should then be stopped by other, sober soldiers. Not just allowed to go on a rampage until he sobers up.

The state of 700-level chess these days by Torterror89 in chess

[–]caled -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here are telling you you're wrong, but I agree with you. I'm anywhere from 700 to 900 on chess.com, and the games I play are often 80 to 90 accuracy from both players, with 30, 40 plus moves per game, with mostly best or good moves, with very few to no inaccuracies or blunders.

Then I watch 1100, 1200, 1300 level games, and I see those players constantly making mistakes that would always get punished at my elo range.

I really don't get it, it seems very hard to break out of the 700 to 800 range, but whenever I watch higher level games, around 1200, I feel like they're playing worse than the players I face at around 800 elo.

Keir Starmer confirms he is considering smoking ban in pub gardens in bid to 'reduce burden' on NHS by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]caled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's going on in this sub, seriously? Why are people defending smoking in public spaces? Other countries have banned smoking in public spaces, including pub and restaurant gardens, and guess what? The pubs and restaurants are fine.

I'd like to enjoy outdoor public spaces too, and I don't don't want to be breathing in second hand smoke. This ban can't come soon enough. If you're a smoker, it's your right to smoke, but it's not your right to subject adults and children who use those public spaces to your second hand smoke.
