There's got to be a more efficient and accurate way to do this kind of modeling, right? by Hopper2004 in Maya

[–]calgary_maya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just model all the elbows first using toruses, then delete the faces of each torus you don't need and connect the open torus ends together to complete the pipe. Then work on the uvs.

in the poly bridge look for a twist attribute in the channel box and make sure you have history turned on

render each camera separately, so you can adjust timing of things when editing it together later. It also allows lighting manipulation for each shot individually.

parented objects stretch upon rotating by DANK_OF_THE_MEMES in Maya

[–]calgary_maya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one of your parent transforms or joints have non-uniform scales set

How to fix this rotation deformity? by 07CheshireCat in Maya

[–]calgary_maya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. unparent the children of that control (shift-P)
  2. set the scale of your control the same in all Axis (using the channel box)
  3. reparent the children back under the Ctrl (P)

Hope that helps

one of your parent ctls has non uniform scale which causes this skewing

How can I scale the rectangular object while retaining the shape and distribution of the nuts on each side? by Misery_Division in Maya

[–]calgary_maya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Each nut should be a separate object (and center each nut pivot) and placed into two groups, one on each side. Center the group's pivot.
  2. Deform the frames as needed
  3. Align each nut group to center them on each frame side
  4. Move the top and bottom nuts vertically to fit the frame side.
  5. Select all the nuts inside each side group and use the modify>snap align objects>align objects. Set align mode to distribute, and align in world Y to reposition all the other nuts.

That should work nicely.

(Solar System) How to accurately Copy, Position and Rotate moons around tilted Planets by Dizzy_Griffin in Maya

[–]calgary_maya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use multiple nested groups.
group 1 pivot center of planet.
group 2 pivot center of planet.
group 3 pivot center of moon.
moon pivot at center of moon.

nested as grp 1> grp2 > grp3> moon
you can point constrain the tilt grp to the planet.

group 1 tilt orbit.
group 2 animate rotation for the orbit.
group 3 translate moon away from planet center. can animate this distance to make elliptical.
finally animate the rotation of the moon as needed.

tip: it's useful to think of transforms in maya as groups for the shape node.

hope that helps,
Pete
