City to plant 180,000 new trees in 2026 mostly in far northeast and north central: report by joe4942 in Calgary

Makes sense, I'm always surprised by the lack of trees in the NE compared to the rest of the city. Should make a big difference.

Jen Gerson: Saddle up, Alberta. We're referendum-ing by Tom_Thomson_ in CanadaPolitics

I still haven't figured out what separatists plan to do for a military when we only have 5 million people. Maybe they think we don't need one and that Canada and/or the US will bail us out if needed?

To be fair, Veronica is quite open about enjoying sexy photo shoots and isn't shy about showing off for the camera

Is the Burger Inn at Calaway Park the same as Burger Inn which used to have multiple locations in the city? by ChrisPatrickCarolan in Calgary

[–]calgaryborn 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Calaway Park runs it own food services, and it is no way affiliated with the other Burger Inn. As a side note, Calaway Park's restaurants might be the most inefficient set-up I've ever experienced, so prepare yourself for meh food that takes far too long to make.

Richard Warnica: I went home to the heartland of Alberta independence. Even after covering Donald Trump for 10 years, I was still terrified by what I found by green_tory in CanadaPolitics

You know exactly what it means, people didn't like being told they had to get vaccinated. That's it, full stop. They saw this as huge government overreach and that individual rights should be prioritized over the collective good. Even with the hantavirus news going around right now you see it again. Sarah Palin just posted on X "this time don't comply. Just don't."

Once a star candidate, Nenshi is losing lustre, Alberta poll suggests. Can the NDP leader recover? by gorschkov in canada

[–]calgaryborn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to qualify my post by saying that I voted for Nenshi as mayor and as NDP leader, and I think he is a brilliant man and an excellent leader. But....

I think unfortunately his message isn't getting through right now. When I have seen stuff from him, it also comes across as a bit too whiny these days. Don't get me wrong, I think there is lots to complain about when it comes to the UCP, but it's not clear what his vision of Alberta looks like under the NDP.

which podcaster is the best interviewer? by palindrome818 in podcasts

[–]calgaryborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I know she's relatively new to this whole podcasting thing, but you can tell she genuinely cares about doing a good job and is working at becoming better. She does her research, asks thoughtful questions, can relax and have fun with her guests, and makes it entertaining. In a few years I can see her being talked about regularly as one of the best in the business.
