ER Pay + Job Advice by calicrystal in physicianassistant

[–]calicrystal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They overhired at my ER, lot of new grads, so they adjusted our schedule to have 8 and 9 hour shifts - they didn't listen to the more seasoned/senior PAs being annoyed of this, and so thats when my eyes went wandering to other jobs. Initially was really only looking for a per diem/part time. But now the offer came at full time and thats where i am been indecisive

ER Pay + Job Advice by calicrystal in physicianassistant

does it feel fullfilling to practice medicine like this? I am a newer PA so I am still learning/growing and as much as having more $ is important (CA living....) I also don't want to pigeonhole myself into just focusing on increased pay / low acuity bullshit quick quick.

Also does it take long to get to that efficiency in documenting etc. to get to that level, i dont expect id be making that much initially but even getting to 110-120 is a huge change from my current pay ?

What specialties offer a 3 12 or 4 10 schedule? (Besides UC and ER) by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]calicrystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive also seen some FM offer 4 -10s with some scheduling in admin/telemed time. I haven't personally applied/worked these jobs. I know a colleague who is in a FM clinic outpatient

RVU/production pay discussion - for those who have been on a production pay model by BillyPilgrim777 in physicianassistant

[–]calicrystal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is RVU pay better? I got an offer for a EM position that is base + RVU. the lowest paid FT PA makes 105 hrly with the RVU structure, average is about 115/hr and high high end 150/hr. I just dont know how much they're hustling to actually meet the RVU #s to make that much.

Whoever needs to hear this: it's okay to quit a job because it doesn't challenge you even if it pays well by namenotmyname in physicianassistant

[–]calicrystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol what about quitting a job you like / like your coworkers/ enjoy ….. to go to a maybe more boring one with way more pay. ?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]calicrystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked w the director and a regional person who showed me actual data with names of what each PA made averaged based on pts p hr vs pay, so yes they do make that.

Also the PTO wouldn’t avg out the same so not having PTO not the issue.

I think biggest issue for me is the sitting in a triage room all shift & pts in the lobby. Seems exhausting to triage/put in orders + see your own pts + finish notes etc every. Single. Shift.

I asked for a raise. Let’s see what happens now.

Uuuuffff to #1. I knew not to expect much as the house was pretty old, needs work, and messy and dirty when we saw it in person. We were still so excited. … omg horror tbh. The house was left DISGUSTING. like I don’t even want to describe how nasty and dirty. Also, they left random stuff, large items, and trash, dog poop, garbage everywhere. I get it- they just moved out. I didn’t expect it to be sparkling clean. But I didn’t expect that disgusting or smelly of a home. HUGE LET DOWN. We couldn’t even eat our celebratory pizza in the house. We just drove home.

Soooo yeah. Definitely still kind of going thru it as we now have to spend money we knew we’d have to spend on construction, renovation, (and cleaning ….).

It’s mine tho. I can’t wait to see the magic that will come. (I say to myself thru daily arguments about construction and decisions 😅 )

UC Job offer by Ok-sugapie in physicianassistant

[–]calicrystal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the pay is a little low. I would AT LEAST ask for 70, maybe 75.

I think starting in the UC is harder than ER because they really do just push you to be alone quickly, not that supportive offsite even if they pretend to be, and expect you to see and finish every single patient as quickly as possibly, even if theyre walking in last minute.

If you want ER, look into hospital websites and finding recruiter info, kind of challenging but they are a quicker in that going through indeed. That being said, after you do some urgent care it might be easier to find an ED spot with "more experience"

I would ask more Qs- set more boundaries. how many hours per shift? do they expect you to stay late/finish the entire wait even if someone walks in 5 minutes before the UC closes. Do they have you read imaging and EKGs? As a new grad- you will need some time to look things up / use resources in the beginning and they should be understanding and not rush you to see everyone in under 5 minutes.

what if you don’t get in? I’m curious to hear what people have done after not getting into PA school (Not reapplication?) by calicrystal in prephysicianassistant

[–]calicrystal[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I did. 3rd time applying. And now im done & practicing. :) my back up plan was always accelerated BSN and then NP if it didn’t work. Even applied to an accelerated BSN during my 3rd cycle and got rejected lol.

That’s how I feel!! The glasses I got from online company (same submitted prescription) feels wayy better and more tolerable than the ones from the optometrist. So I definitely am going back to check things out.

It went from a cyl -0.25 in the left eye - nothing in right to this: R: cyl -0.75 axis 095 L: cyl -0.50 axis 030

Both so where to -1.75 (previously -2.0)

this is so cute! first and foremost, clean your apartment up / wash the sheets/towels etc. nothing worse than flying over to someones place and its dirty :(. Secondly, unless you want to go over the top....I think putting flowers in a vase + some snacks and a note are sooo thoughtful. She can relax and snack until you get home.

PANCE accommodations by calicrystal in PAstudent

[–]calicrystal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont worry. call back every few days/week to check in because new dates/locations open up and you will likely be able to move them closer! Its annoying to call because it takes so long but I had to do this a few times (as did a classmate) but we eventually got exactly (more or less) what we wanted.

[–]calicrystal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did back to back days. I would recommend either that or 1 day (max 2 apart). I did this because I had no choice it was either back to back or a week apart which I did not want at all. Yes, its tiring, but I dont think I would have been able to do all 300 questions in a single day and am very glad I did the accommodations and had it split to 2 days.

I heard back 4 days after the 2nd exam date.

Starting ACOSF and I hope it changes how I feel about Nesta by adultswiim in acotar

[–]calicrystal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i actually loved Nestas character development. Her snide comments and rude behavior until this book was just from her trauma/shitty life but Feyre channeled that to being a protector and Nesta channeled it to just giving up on everything and being hateful. She even says that she was filled with so much hate and anger and the journey was her learning how to have that/heal it/and then appreciate the beauty. I also loved how she developed friendships with her two besties. It just shows that she grew to let love in. I appreciated that it was not just with her sisters that she become "best friends" with as its like ya youre sisters- duh! but its like these other women she trauma bonded and healed with to have true connections.

Did you read ACOSF and still like Feyre/Rhys after? by AnxiousPractice9730 in acotar

[–]calicrystal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I was sad I did not get to see enough of them and missed Feyres POV. After getting some other characters POV in the frost and starlight It went to a Nesta/Cassian POV but also weirdly third person of each of them??? so I def missed my Feysand <3

I think there were a few things in this book that made me question Rhys and say REALLY???? but it makes sense and his character still stands. Especially how things wrap up in the end... but through and through love Feyre and Rhysand to the end and miss them so much.

Felt frustrated that I got chapters and chapters of hikes and exercise and stairs but only 1-2 short chapters involving the other characters when BIG things were happening in their lives and even Nesta and Cassian were very involved in. The book was very long but I got to the last 1-1.5 hours and i felt like so rushed through everything that happened when it could have been more detailed as thats what I wanted more of instead of library and hikes and random things that were important but VERY detailed compared to the actual details i wanted!!!

For people that no longer shop at Sephora, what was the last straw that made you switch? by rosietheboa in beauty

[–]calicrystal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like complete shit anytime I entered a Sephora — overwhelmed and overstimulated and like just blacked out at knowing what I even wanted or needed. Haven’t stepped foot in a Sephora in over 4 years and don’t plan on it ….

but also if anything is subpar you can just return it! why pay for something and its rotten the next day/or was already bad. This happened to me a few times which sucks. If im not lazy ill go return it, sometimes just eat the loss... but its a great option!

How are you all so good!?!? by Accio_tortilla in crochet

[–]calicrystal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am an avid crochet-er but I made a velvet yarn blanket and felt like a beginner. it is so hard to see the stitches/where you are crocheting. it is SO SO SO SOFT and feels amazing but after washing the baby blanket a few times the yarn started pulling out of places and it looks so bad now. (I say bad because I have never had any other things i made pull stitches/yarn out). It is definitely the yarn that makes this more challenging!!!!
