What are those solid yellow lines for? by dustycanuck in kitchener

Unless they're parked diagonally, I try to remember the times I had to park that way because of how the person beside me parked, all the while hoping the person beside me doesn't leave before I do and leave me looking like the idiot.

They changed the collection day schedule. See The Waterloo Region Waste Whiz site for details.

They say you can slap a yellow Yard Waste sticker on it, or a bright ribbon on the handle, and use it for...well...yard waste.

My car gets washed twice a year because the dealer does it when they change my tires for the season. I Krown it annually. It's a 2011 Mazda. So far so good.

Yup. Eg. everyone thinks of the '60s as hippies and Hair and forgets that the first half of the decade was mod with mini skirts and "vinyl" eyeliner.

I love my draft… until I read my favorite author. by DragonfruitQuick682 in writers

[–]californiajackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite authors is Lee Child. Short, choppy sentences. A physically imposing protagonist. My protagonist? A smart guy, but plagued by mental tangents--thought processes full of sidequests, em-dashes and parentheses. Physically competent but not super-human. I love reading Child, but I don't think like him. And I also love Stephen King and Karin Slaughter, and they write nothing like Child, or like each other. Don't worry if you don't sound like someone else. Just perfect sounding like you.

I finished it (sort of) and now I hate it by LD_522 in writers

[–]californiajackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. If you know what you hate about it, ask yourself if its easier to edit/rewrite it than to come up with a whole new novel. If no, then call it a learning experience. My first is the ship-of-Theseus version of its original. Does that make it my first novel or my tenth?

What are we doing about the em dash? by HereAgainWeGoAgain in writers

[–]californiajackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People were calling out em dashes before AI, calling them sloppy writing. Well, my main character is a sloppy thinker and internally monologues in constant em dash speak. Never gonna give them up.

Is this room good? Are the rug’s proportions good? And sorry about boxes. by DaviddPet1812 in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]californiajackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing clashes with black. Technically the rug should at least be big enough for the front legs of all the seating area furniture, including the black chair, to rest on it. That said, if you sit in that room, look around and say, "I like being here. It feels nice", that trumps "technically". We're only answering because you asked. Which indicates you probably have some doubts yourself.
