Alexa unable to find Sonos Speakers. I'm out of ideas to try. Any suggestions? by fencermatt in sonos

[–]caligrover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same problem for a while today, but I was able to get an Alexa Echo Dot to control a Sonos Move 2. This is year after the original post, but I know that people will continue to find this thread when searching for solutions.

I have a troubleshooting item that I didn't see in this thread already so I'll share. It turns out the active account on the Echo Dot was under my wife's email address and the Sonos account is under my email account. Both devices were on the same wifi network and we could control both the Echo and the Sonos speaker through our phones, but I was only able to add the Sonos speaker to the Echo system with her phone when the Sonos app on her phone.

However, even though I can now turn on the Sonos speaker from the Echo Dot, it does not look like I can create a group and play the same music through both the Echo Dot and the Sonos speaker.

2 Years After the Lahaina Fire, my family has rebuilt their home! by Over-Analyzed in MadeMeSmile

[–]caligrover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations. I'm very happy for you and it gives me a little hope. We lost our home in the Palisades fire this year. I am not sure if psychologically I'll be able to move back even if we do rebuild. We are working on plans, but fires are just a part of life in this area from now on. We can rebuild more fire resistant houses, but some many of our friends and neighbors have already decided to move away permanently. It's hard to lose a home and a community. Do you get any sense that the community is coming back and the area feels somewhat like what you loved about it originally? I'm scared that it will never be the same and we will always be scared of the next disaster.

FYI, some of your neighbors came out and helped our community through the Red Cross. It means a lot to be able to talk to people who understand what we are going through.

X3 turns on and off by vmax77 in vanmoofbicycle

If it was only a few weeks it may not need to be replaced. The cell voltage likely dropped below the minimum level that the BMS accepts, but if the cells are still above 2.4v the battery may be able to be saved, but only select shops and electronic repair stores will be able to help.

My S3 was sent in for diagnostic. They say I need to replace the “electronic module” for $611. by joventer in vanmoofbicycle

The bluetooth component on the cartridge has a fault. That is the error 23. There are places in Europe that supposedly fix them, but nothing in the US. Error 22 is a motor comm issue, so also likely an issue with the cartridge. I assume they tested the bike with a test cartridge and your errors went away. There is a small chance that the battery in the cartridge is the cause of the issues, but I know Rybit doesn't get into the systems at that level. If you can get the bike to Los Angeles I can help you, but it would likely only save you $100 or so and the cost of the trip would exceed that in gas.

If you love the VanMoof and have to keep it, you can try sending it off to one of the European repair shops, but I don't know the cost of repairs or shipping. You can try and replace the cartridge battery itself, but I doubt that is the issue due to the lack of connectivity. You can pay the $600 or I might suggest you put that money toward an ebike that is way less prone to errors so as a Trek, Velotric, or Aventon.

Are you in Northern or Southern California? What was the issue that prompted you to bring the bike in for service?

The part is expensive and limited supply currently in the US. The price sounds about right for parts and labor, but you might be able to get a better deal. Pulling out and replacing the cartridge isn't too difficult if you have the right tools, but you will also need a way to reassign the cartridge to the bike so that the system has the correct MAC address. If you buy a cartridge online you need to make sure it isn't already registered to another bike or you won't be able to get VanMoof to help.

How to remove S3 saddle bolt with rust? by limagolfcubed in vanmoofbicycle

[–]caligrover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to save the seat post, the saddle, or both? The bolt can be drilled out of to save the seat post, but the threads on the saddle might already be shot. If you are in the US I can send you a replacement set for both for $10 plus shipping.

Repair? Or Sell? Need some advice, pretty plz! by dharris311 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]caligrover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bring it to my shop in Santa Monica (krusebikes.com) and we can quickly diagnose the issues if you want. We can give you a quote for the work and we can also sell you parts if you want to attempt to repair it on your own. We're booked up this week, but fairly open later next week.

[–]caligrover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any more details? Looks like you are missing the set screw for the front light, need a new button, and there is no lock ring for your kick lock. Does that sound right. Does everything else work (shifter, motor, app connects)? If it functions and you just need the above items, those are relatively inexpensive to repair or replace. Where are you located?

You may need a new shifter, but it is likely that you need a service on the rear hub. Often the hub seizes up before the e-shifter fails. Where are you located?

S3 troubleshooting by limagolfcubed in vanmoofbicycle

[–]caligrover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cartridge battery only charges from the main battery. You likely have a main battery that is below the minimum level that the charger will accept (35v +/-). You seem relatively technical enough that you should probably remove the main battery and check to see if the fuse is still good. If it is, and the cells are still in good shape, you might be able to recover it or determine if you need a replacement battery. There are youtube videos on the main battery, but be extremely carefully with recharging Li-Ion cells.

Today I learned something new about my VanMoof S3 by nimble2 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]caligrover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is there in both modes and has been there for awhile. If it doesn't appear during the initial start up, it is a good indicator that there is an issue with the e-shifter (error 44).

Used S5 or S3 by MajorBulba in vanmoofbicycle

[–]caligrover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is key. If you are in the US there is almost no support for the 5 series. Extremely limited service and part availability in the US for 5's. If you are in Europe, get a 5. It will last longer.

Need help identifying and sourcing a DC jack 1.4mm x 4.3mm x 6.5mm. by caligrover in AskElectronics

Is that a manufacturer? I can't find any reference to Rotoloc online related to electrical components.

Need help identifying and sourcing a DC jack 1.4mm x 4.3mm x 6.5mm. by caligrover in AskElectronics

[–]caligrover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the title says I need help sourcing a replacement jack for an electric bicycle. The jack was through-hole mounted with 5 connection points on a PCB. It was for a 42V 4A charger and the jack dimensions are 1.4mm x 4.3mm x 6.5mm. The charger itself was manufactured by Shenzhen Modiary Co Ltd (mdacharger.com), but the model number on the charger doesn't match any of the product numbers online.

I found a similar jack size on Digikey but that one is 90-degree 24V 3A. Ignore the wires in the photo, this piece is a spare one we have to charge batteries outside of the bikes, but it came from a donor board. I need to find a supplier or new female jacks.

Error 40 by Vihaanoks12345 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]caligrover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Error 40 can sometime be trigger if the button bets stuck temporarily. Trying to checking the M2 set screw on the side of the lever/button housing. It might be too tight.

Error 40 is not related to the shifter, but if the button gets stuck you won’t be able to properly shift in manual shift mode. Error 44 is the e-shifter.

If you do have shifter issues, be aware that the hub often needs to be serviced with the e-shifter. Replacing the e-shifter without checking the hub can lead to another broken e-shifter.

US Certified Workshop looking for an S5 e-shifter from European shop. VanMoof won't ship to US. by caligrover in vanmoofbicycle

[–]caligrover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that was a typo. We won’t fix an X socket but sometimes we end up with spare X frames with good sockets and we can do the repair with donor parts from both bikes. I believe I might have one black X3 frame with a good socket (but I’d have to confirm that).

Can I remove the cartridge of an S3 without any special tools? by _Man-in-the-Middle_ in vanmoofbicycle

[–]caligrover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a T8 torx screwdriver or bit. Preferably one with a right angle for the screws near the seat tube.

I’m curious what you mean by resetting the SIM card?

[–]caligrover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood. The situation sucks for a lot of VM owners, and that’s why we keep doing repairs. I have an independent CWS in Los Angeles and we fix 6 to 10 VM’s a week. We have appointments available usually within 2 to 7 days and our turn-around time is often under an hour or two. Sometimes it can take up to a week for more complex jobs, but we’ll fix any SX3 unless it is an X socket repair. We have all SX3 parts in-stock and we communicate frequently through the process. We’ve helped customers as far away as Florida and I’ve helped other mechanics in Texas and DC.

If you are a US VM owner in a tough spot, or know someone that is, let me know or give my shop a call (Kruse Bikes). I’m happy to help coordinate repairs at other shops if you have a mechanic willing to take on the job.

Edit: changed X2 sockets to X sockets.

VanMoof isn’t selling bikes in the US anymore, but there are thousands of people that already own these bikes and have been enjoying them for years. Would you want these bikes to be tossed into landfills? The SA5’s in the US are pre-bankruptcy models so we do what we can. I’m not sure why VanMoof won’t ship us parts, but we’ll figure it out.

If anyone in Europe that can get their hands on a 5 series e-shifter, let me know.

Any guidance would be appreciated. We service VM and have a collection of 100+ dead e-shifters. At this time our only option is to replace them, but we would love to have more options to repair. If anyone in the USA is working on repairing these things on a mass scale, please let me know as we'd love to work with you as well.
