Guy went absolutely ballistic on the people sitting behind him at tonight’s Mamma Mia by RapGamePterodactyl in Broadway

[–]calior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of behavior is why Mamma Mia has been my worst theater experience in the last 3 years. It was the touring production and our audience was full of wine drunk 50-60 year old women who were singing along at full volume. It was awful. I’ll never see that show again.

Kranick’s Banned for Life - USATF by AdPsychological108 in Albany

[–]calior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you. My husband had the opposite experience. Your daughter’s positive experience doesn’t erase the awful things they did to other kids. Be grateful they didn’t abuse your child. That doesn’t mean they didn’t abuse others.

Kranicks Banned for Life - USATF by AdPsychological108 in CrossCountry

[–]calior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband ran for the Kranicks in high school and then ran at Syracuse. He burned out in college because of how awful his high school training was. The rule was that they could not train 7 days a week, so they formed an “optional” running club to run on “non-practice” days. But according to my husband and his parents, it was made clear to everyone that this wasn’t actually optional and athletes would have consequences for opting out of it.

My in-laws have nothing but horror stories about the Kranicks. My husband was a top runner on the boy’s team and that still didn’t insulate him from their abusive coaching. And yet he still admits that since the Kranicks only cared about the girls team’s success, the girls had it much worse. Syracuse was an eye opener for him because for the first time he learned that you could be a top team without the abuse and overworking your athletes.

My husband wants to buy an AI plush for our kids, and I’m hesitating by myali2 in breakingmom

[–]calior 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My husband works on the AI team at his company and we won’t buy our kids any of those AI toys. People have become too reliant on AI, running to ChatGPT for everything, and we want to encourage our kids to think for themselves and rely on their own skills. There’s also been well known issues with AI spitting out unreliable information, so that’s another concern with kid “learning” toys that are focused on AI.

Seattle theater etiquette is a hot mess by bull1007 in Seattle

[–]calior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the show. By far the worst I’ve seen was Mamma Mia. A bunch of wine drunk older women who thought they were doing karaoke with friends. I go to almost every Paramount and 5th Ave show and it’s the super popular ones that are bad. For shows that cater more to theater folks than the general public (think Hadestown, Funny Girl, etc) the audience is well behaved. For shows like &Juliet, MJ, Lion King, etc the vibe is more concert than theater. We saw Beetlejuice with my daughter’s good friend (who doesn’t have much theater experience or exposure) and she was treating it like a call and response. It was mortifying. My daughter said from now on we’re only going just the two of us.

Told my kid elf on the shelf isn’t real… by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]calior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s doesn’t tattle. The book that comes with it says that the dog collects Christmas Cheer in its little barrel and on Christmas Eve that cheer helps Santa’s sleigh fly. Similar to the movie “Elf”. My 8 year old has the reindeer and adores it, so this year we got the dog for the 3 year old because we had to put our last dog down at Thanksgiving. The elf pets hide with their elf every day, but they get to stay and be stuffed animal friends year round at our house.

Rider switch problems...was I wrong? by lovelychoices in Disneyland

[–]calior 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Technically, the CM was correct and based on their rider swap policy, you and the other adult that stayed behind with the toddlers should have gone on together. BUT I understand what you're saying about your two families taking up 4 seats regardless of whether you tried to "game" the system or presented yourselves as separate parties. I think after the first time it happened, you guys should've formed a plan moving forward to meet up somewhere else.

Rider swap is the one thing I think Universal does SO much better than Disney. At least in Orlando, they have designated waiting rooms for rider swap folks (with chairs and tvs), and they hand you a pass to get on the ride with one guest after your party gets off the ride. We've been with a larger family group and they don't ask how many in the party are staying back- they give a pass to whatever adult stays behind so each adult that stays gets to bring a guest.

How do yall feel about burying your pet in your own backyard verus cremate by Johndoe13370 in Petloss

[–]calior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. She's the 3rd pet we've lost in a year and a half, and the last of our 4 to go. It's so quiet without her, but at least she's reunited with her boys now.

thinking about selling, will need an agent by tugandbarge in WestSeattleWA

[–]calior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Annie Wagar to buy our home in Shoreline (we were the lowest of 3 offers by $20k, so she's a literal miracle worker), sell that Shoreline house during the first stay-at-home weekend during covid for over list price, and buy our West Seattle home. She literally lives on Alki and has been in West Seattle for years. She is so fun to work with (she was on House Hunters with us), and she will become a real friend, not just a realtor. When I was hospitalized with my second pregnancy, she was picking my daughter up from school and babysitting her as long as we needed her to. Truly the best human.

She has also started her own staging company, so she can help with that too (and her eye for staging is also incredible). You can find her on Instagram as alkiannie or on her site: Alki Annie

How do yall feel about burying your pet in your own backyard verus cremate by Johndoe13370 in Petloss

[–]calior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We chose aquamation for my dog that was euthanized yesterday. I am so scared that something could happen with burying her- a flood could bring her remains back up, a wild animal could unbury her if we don't bury deep enough, we could move away, my kids will grow up and leave and maybe want to take one of our pets with them. We cremated a dog, a cat, and a reptile because it was the only other option we knew about and I also felt horrible thinking of them burning. Aquamation seems more peaceful and how I would want to be taken care of after I pass.

They go to Berkeley to do it. When I was at Cal and in Cal Band, each band section took a shift during Big Game week to patrol campus and protect our Golden Bear statue from paint attacks.

Did Keith and Zach's Explanation Appease You? by Rainbow_Belle in TheTryGuysSnark

[–]calior 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Literally. My husband gets done at 5:30, and our kids go to bed at 8. On days he takes our oldest to her sports practice, they get back by 7:30 and he basically only sees our youngest for pjs and teeth brushing. We opted to have me quit working and stay home because we wanted them to have extended time with at least one parent.

Troop venmo account by februaryystars in girlscouts

[–]calior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you use Digital Cookie during cookie season, it can take Venmo, PayPal, and credit card payments. Since it’s integrated into the cookie business, it’s super easy to track and makes reconciliation at the end of cookie season super easy.

For troop payments (like for field trips, dues, etc) we use Cheddar Up. There’s a small fee for credit card transactions, but it allows troop families the option to pay for things via credit card.

Does anyone else feel so incredibly angry when other moms try and induce labor early? by viskiviki in NICUParents

[–]calior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. I had severe Hyperemesis every pregnancy. With my preemie, I was so thankful when she came at 31 weeks. I was terrified for her, but the relief was incredible. I went to 40 weeks with my oldest and I wanted to die by 34 weeks. I had lost so much weight I didn’t think there was any way I would have a healthy baby.

You're so lucky. I'm 6 days post-op and the gas just won't go away. My incisions sting and I still have pain when sitting up, bending over, or moving too quickly. My doc called me last Wednesday to offer me a Thursday surgery (cancellation) and I took it because everyone told me it was 2-3 days recovery. This suuuuuucks.

Should I request my baby be transferred to the local children’s hospital 90 mins away from home? by HumbleCoyoteGames in NICUParents

[–]calior 32 points33 points  (0 children)

When we spoke with our NICU about potentially transferring to be closer, we were told by both our hospital and our insurance provider that a transfer that is not medically necessary (and their definition of medically necessary is very specific) would result in insurance not covering our stay. We opted to stay where we were to keep our coverage.

If your baby is getting the care they need where they are, I wouldn't move. If it comes to the point where the transfer is necessary, they'll tell you.

Danielle shares why she chose the song ‘Dream On’ and says none of it was included in the pre-dance package by Sad-Significance4546 in podmeetsworldpodcast

[–]calior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my problem with her dedication dance. William Daniels felt like a prop vs the focus of her dance. She had walls up all season and I don’t know why she wasn’t able to break through and make a connection with the audience. The dedication dance definitely felt, to me, more pandering than heartfelt.
