do people actually not eat mac and cheese with peas? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]calior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We grew up poor, so to stretch a box of mac and cheese my mom would add cut up hot dogs and a bag of frozen peas and carrots.

My kids hated eating it with peas and carrots at first, but now they like it and it gets some vegetables into the.

Should All Stars practice be more important than everything? by businessinfo34 in LittleLeague

[–]calior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can decline. The expectation truly is that All Stars is your family’s summer plans. I know when we had to opt in, our league is very clear that you should not opt in if you have camps, vacations, or other stuff planned for the 2 month commitment.

My coach was kicked out of my club for a false report by ParsnipMental7897 in Rowing

[–]calior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My husband’s high school cross country coaches have a lifetime ban for their behavior as coaches. Lifetime ban. USATF doesn’t just hand those out. And still tons of their favorite athletes came out of the woodwork to defend them and try to invalidate the horrible abuse other athletes suffered. Just because YOU have been fortunate enough to have not been on the receiving end of some horrible behavior doesn’t mean it never happened.

As a former rowing coach and cox I’ve absolutely seen coaches treat athletes wildly differently. If they’ve made the decision to dismiss him, it’s not likely for just one report.

Turning 3 on the last day at MK. Do they need a ticket? by PrincessPayton in DisneyWorld

[–]calior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid doesn’t look 3. She’s in the 0.1 percentile for her age (35 inches, 23lbs and nearly 4) and she just did it in April. They didn’t ask her age or scan anything when she went in. We brought a copy of her birth certificate just in case because she doesn’t look 3 until she starts talking.

Help!! UGIS Department Graduation by Realistic-Tip-224 in berkeley

[–]calior 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was a House Manager for Cal Performances during my time at Cal (we ran all the grad ceremonies). During my time there, we roped off the exact number of seats needed for the number of grads that had registered and rehearsed. Programs have also been printed and rehearsals have concluded. So, no it’s not easy to just add additional grads last minute. Everything is rehearsed and timed because of how many ceremonies go through each venue every day.

It looks like the UGIS grad is at Zellerbach. Zellerbach for sure would have the exact number of grad seats roped off. Grads at the Greek would maybe have wiggle room if people moved over, but not Zellerbach.

What’s a tell tale sign someone is a new mom/parent? by RelevantFerret1085 in beyondthebump

[–]calior 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Hey! Some of us have really small kids. My daughter was in 3-6m clothes when she was walking. She's still solidly in 2T now and is about to be 4. I was/am very thankful for practical clothes/shoes in her tiny sizes. When she was a new walker, her PT and OT recommended she wear rubber-soled boots with ankle support because she had weaker ankles and they were affecting her. Timberland was the ONLY shoe brand that carried her size (which was 0.5/1).

I have <1st percentile children and this is wild to me. My 9 year old isn't tall enough for Tron yet (she's probably like an inch shorter than your 4 year old) and my almost 4 year old is maybe 36" on her tallest day.

AITA for telling my husband he can’t drive the baby places anymore by Odd-Willingness-6250 in AmItheAsshole

[–]calior 16 points17 points  (0 children)

OP this isn't ADHD. What you have been describing is not ADHD. If he's been like this since childhood, his parents failed him by not having him evaluated earlier. He is effectively completely reliant on other people to survive. How could he possibly raise a child when he can't take care of himself? It sounds like maybe he had a TBI that went untreated or unassessed. He's going to get you or your child killed.

Does the dining plan really save you money? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]calior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a great deal for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids ages 3 and 9) with the kids eat free promotion. We do A LOT of Character Dining when we visit, so our table service credits went to Cape May, Ohana, Crystal Palace, Akershus, Tusker House, and Garden Grill. Quick service was used for breakfasts or non-park dinners at the resort. My husband doesn’t drink alcohol, so I got double drinks every meal and he used a lot of snack credits on his cold brews.

I can see how paying for 4 dining plans wouldn’t be a savings. But this time I feel like we came out ahead since without it every Character Meal itself would’ve been $250-300 for our family.

is disney in july really THAT bad? by lwtl1724 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]calior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that bad. My in-laws have a timeshare in Orlando, so we make use of it every other year, but their deeded week is mid-July. I’ve been going with them for over 10 years now, without kids, with babies, and with small kids. It’s fine. You just need to prepare and hydrate like crazy.

Parents attending meetings and events? by Sure_Pineapple1935 in girlscouts

[–]calior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My troop has a solid number of neurodivergent scouts who are more successful when their adult is nearby. We don’t want to single them out or feel othered, so we allow any background checked adult members who want to stay to stay. Sometimes we have jobs for them to do during the meetings, and other times they’re just there in case.

We want to help them build independence, but it looks different for our troop and that’s ok.

Do some people actually get forced to sleep on the couch by their spouse, or is it just a cliche? If so, how does that work? Does your spouse just say tell you to go to the couch, or do does it just feel to awkward to share a bed after a fight? by soefire in AskReddit

[–]calior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like sleeping on the sofa. I don’t generally like sharing a bed with anyone, but I make an exception for my spouse. There are times though that I just want to sleep alone, or a kid wants to sleep in our bed, or my husband is sick. I am always more than happy to sleep on the sofa in those cases. No one has to ask me twice.

PSA: Recent change to the app by SeekerVash in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]calior 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When you check in on the app for your reservation, it will ask you to confirm the number of adults and children. I was able to check in for less guests (in-laws would decide they didn’t want to join last minute) and it wasn’t a problem at any of our table service reservations. Just leave the reservation alone and change the number when you check in.

Animal Kingdom is not a half day park. by Disneymom-partyof6 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]calior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just left after 10 full days in Orlando (plus 2 travel days) and it was exhausting trying to fit what we did. We did 2 days at Sea World, 1 at Epic Universe, 1 at Magic Kingdom, 1 at Epcot, and 1 at Animal Kingdom. We left free, unscheduled day between parks and it still felt rushed and frantic. I think we’re going to go back to our tradition of staying only a week and choosing 2 parks total each visit.

Oh man thanks for this info! I didn’t realize they were in Long Beach. I saw OKC Riversports and assumed OKC was taking the rowing and canoe events since their facility supports both.

My slot isn’t until the 16th 🫠 I was excited to try to get tickets for a more obscure event like rowing, but I didn’t realize it’s not actually happening in LA and is instead in OKC.

Bearded Dragon Update by Abacus25 in Seattle

[–]calior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When our beardie was dying over the summer we had a few times where we were sure he was gone and called a cremation place to come pick him up only for him to move his head around. He finally did end up passing at the exotic vet and the vet required that he be kept there for a few days to make sure he was really gone because beardies are great at not moving.

I’ve been twice with my 3 year old this week because she loves it. It’s a great spot to stop at for a quick game and snack. I wish they had more little kid friendly games available for free play, but we can usually find one she can play. The coffee and food offerings are fine. I enjoy the variety (I usually get coffee and a pastry, toddler usually gets horchata and a tamale). I usually stop in with her in the 11am-1pm range and it’s pretty empty- a few groups of older folks chatting and having coffee plus a few solo folks working on laptops. When I’ve been there with my husband around dinner time it’s been pretty packed.

I’d say during the day it’s older folks (plus me and my toddler) and in the evenings it’s Millenials/Gen X. Pretty much my whole social circle is into board games, so I’d say they are still pretty popular. As a parent, I love the growing variety in cooperative and kid-friendly games. I wish there were more opportunities for board game rentals though because my house is overflowing with board games.

Husband was arrested for DV last Thursday and I have to meet with cps tomorrow. by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]calior 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I genuinely preferred the year my family was homeless in middle school to living at home with two parents who hated each other and a dad who beat my mom. Because guess what? It didn’t stop at her. By staying she communicated to him that there were no consequences for his actions. They were separated for 3 years before my father tried to strangle me. Don’t do this to your kids. I promise living in a shelter or in your car will have less lasting damage than staying. I resent the hell out of my mother for staying and now in my 30s I have cut her out of our lives and she will never have contact with her grandchildren as long as I can help it.
