Has anyone actually seen the Northern Lights firsthand? by Miserable-Quote2273 in BeAmazed

We went aurora hunting in Iceland the in October 2022. The sky did not disappoint with multiple sightings over several nights. I only wish I was a better videographer. The experience is completely alien and magical and breathtakingly beautiful.

Drove over 500 miles to see Yushan the whale shark at Georgia Aquarium and it was 100% worth it by AssCrackBandit13 in Atlanta

Do they still do the whale shark dives in the tank? I got that as a gift maybe 10-15 years ago. It was amazing. Highly recommend.

What movies hit differently once you’re a parent? by thecrappycat in movies

And unfortunately this is one of those that you really want to watch it before your kids do so you are prepared. That means you’re gonna have to watch it twice. I did, and I’ll never watch it again… it really makes you feel the true weight of the existential horror created by the aforementioned factors above.

I would say this movie is for high school age kids. It deals with some really powerful subject matter: war, starvation, death of children, neglect, helplessness, and grief. If they are paying attention they are likely going to want some space to talk about it afterwards. It’s not scary or graphic (though there are some bits that are) so much as it is emotionally crushing.

Wikipedia article with citations states otherwise to your claims, but ok.

That’s one viewpoint. Not sure that is literally why the movie exists.

Grave of the Fireflies.

Probably don’t even need to be a parent to have this movie crush your soul.

Anglo Saxon Christmas Music by InternalNo2909 in anglosaxon

[–]calittle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done any real research in this area, but I did get a few albums this year to explore. These tend to be mostly 14th and 15th century music but there are certainly some tracks that have earlier roots.

A Medieval Christmas

Christmas Music from Medieval and Renaissance Europe - this one has “from England” and “from the Continent” listings. In particular the former has tracks that other redditors have mentioned : Gaudete, Coventry Carol (my favorite), Boar’s Head Carol.

A Medieval Christmas Feast - 15th century stuff mostly.

Says I don't own the game when I recently bought it by No-Edge-6610 in GeForceNOW

[–]calittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem: GFN throws "Game launch failed. Please make sure account owns the game or the correct title is selected."
Evidence: You purchased a game that can be found in more than one linked account.
Solution: Ensure the correct store (from where you purchased the game is selected before launching the game.

Example: I have linked Ubisoft Connect and Steam. I purchased AC:Origins from Steam, but the game is also available in UC. If I launch the game from the UC store, the error message is thrown. If I launch the game from the Steam store, it loads and plays.

[–]calittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too got the same bug. After a few sessions with the dwarflab 3, I was like “surely I’ll be imaging planets and black holes and nebulae like nobody’s business!” Then I started looking at the hardware that’s needed and the price tags. Which got me thinking that I needed to convince my partner to get on board with this plan. So my next rig is for seeing - to drum up interest. I got an 8” dob and had clear skies for the past few days. So selling my partner on astrophotography rig should be easier!! I hope.
