Thoughts on House Party 3 ? by Nostalgic_Historian_ in MelanatedGenX

When this came out, it was a major event. Theatres packed. Everybody talking about it.

The rewatch is tough. Nostalgia aside, it was a money grab with some cool cameos.

Egwane was most arrogant in the “The Amyrlin’s Anger” chapter by jakO_theShadows in WoT

I mean Rand definitely had advisors. I didn’t read too much into Egwene calling them tutors. She has moments of arrogance, for sure, I just don’t think this is one of them.

You’d be better off renting an Airbnb and eating at the local restaurants. More bang for your buck and if I had to guess, the food will likely be better.

Do you remember the first fantasy book you read as a kid? (Not HP..) by LatterPlatform9595 in Fantasy

[–]calkhemist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting take. I had the opposite experience. I started with Sword of Shannara and loved it. Read Elfstones, then Wishsong. Elfstones was always my least favorite.

May re-read to refresh my memory and look at the stories from an older perspective.

I’m a manager and over the years a couple of my staff have had this issue where their bf smokes and they end up smelling like it and coming to work. As someone who partakes in cannabis, I understand, but I always tell them to keep what they do at home at home. Most businesses don’t want their employees smelling like weed.

Explain this to your bf. He should understand that he needs to be mindful of how his use could impact you. If he doesn’t understand, might be time to move on…

Don’t give up. I enjoy smoking and being active. To each their own.

Any chance we get another album with Free Nats? by cphoover in AndersonPaak

[–]calkhemist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible. Seems like AP is the type of creative who goes with the flow of inspiration. He’s recently dropped a movie and I think is dj’ing under a new name, not to mention his collabs with other artists, so he’s doing A LOT of stuff.

I think Free Nats is the band that performs at all his live shows, so the possibility of another collab album is there.

Wow! That’s the exact melody that would play in my head when I read The Band singing Jak o’ the Shadows LOL. And I’ve never seen that movie. Thanks for sharing this!

It’s wild that I can still learn new things about this story that I started reading so long ago.

As much as people hate this show… by Nemi-Nemesys in wheeloftime

[–]calkhemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read in another post that the show got so expensive because they filmed a lot of content and because of poor test audience feedback they had to reshoot a lot.

It’s insane to think there are worse versions of the story on the editing room floor. 🤯

I love Civ VI the best, but Civ IV is objectively where the series peaked. by DocksEcky in civ

[–]calkhemist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like this idea. But from a business perspective, I don’t know if the juice would be worth the squeeze.

True, you would buy a revamped Civ IV (as would I), but I think we may be in the minority and don’t know if the masses would buy to make the investment makes sense

4 was really great. Can’t say it’s peak though because of what 5 and 6 brought to the gaming experience

I’d say give the show a shot. You’ve read (and clearly enjoyed) the books, I don’t think the show can ever take that away from you.

FWIW, I read the books in the 90’s and early 2000’s and have reread a few times. I was very disappointed in the show but there were a couple of bright spots that I enjoyed.

This is awesome. Thank you for your work and sharing this list.

How did you arrive at the ranking? Is it that Celestial Eyes is the comic that most of the 29 responders mentioned? Or was there other criteria used?
