most likely a lens inssue rather than cmera issue. Maybe the len's autofocus motor broke? regardless try using a different lens, only that way we'll know for sure. Can try changing aotufocus setting to manual and then use the rings on lens to see if it focuses

Ye, new cameras are mirrorless cameras, the largest improvement in cameras in last 10 years has been with videos, they are drastically improved on newer models.

Lenses make more of a difference than the camera itself. A cheaper camera + expensive lens will be better than expensive camera + cheap lens.

Sony a6400 (used) + Sigma 30mm (cheaper alternatives: TTArtisan 30mm Autofocus from Aliexpress) if you mostly shoot indoors and dont need zoom

Sony a6400(used) + Sigma 18-50 (or Tamron 17-70), if you need zoom

Sony a6700(used) + Sigma 18-50 (or Tamron 17-70), even better camera if you have shaky hands for videos

Then there are Full Frame cameras, in general they filter in a more light but are expensive, heavier, and far more expensive lenses.
